Do Siblings Recognise Each Other
Baileys mum replied to Theresadn88's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my pups (now 10 months old) from my last years litter came for a surprise visit last month, & while I don't know if they remember each other as littermates, Her & jasper (the little boy that we kept) certainly got along very well. Not only that, but she went straight up to Brandy (her mum) & nosed underneath her belly looking for a teat :D She also gave me lots of kisses, like she remembered me . I really do believe they remember the place they where born. -
Are you allowed to order say for example 8 (which is how many pups my bitch had last time ) before they are born or do you have to wait till they are born?
-
Sounds great, I actually bought a 1.5 kg bag of Advance puppy for each of my puppy owners take home with them with my last litter, so atleast it will save me a little bit of money if I order the packs.

Thanks guys, I thought it was very cute, I love getting pics from my puppy people. Have you checked out the Aussie terrier thread lately barkon? I posted a heap of new piccies of my Aussies there the other day, including updated photos of Jasper. -
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone here has ordered tha Advance puppy packs to give to your puppy owners? Are they any good? & how long did it take for them to arrive? I feed the food to my adult dogs & weaned my litter last year onto it... & I've just registerd as a breeder on the Advance website & was thinking of ordering the puppy packs for my next litter. thanks guys.

Smoking Around Dogs & Other Pets
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks everyone for all the replies so far. First of all, going by the poll its very pleasing to see the amount of Dolers that do not smoke & the Dolers that used to smoke, but have since kicked this horrible habit...as someone that used to smoke I know it is not an easy habit to kick, so congratulations to the people that have managed to do it. I'm also equally pleased that the majority of Dolers (& that includes quite a few of you that do smoke )will not tolerate any 2nd hand cigarette smoke near any of their pets. I'm not sure if their has been any research done with the health effects of 2nd hand smoke & dogs, but personally I can't see it being a good thing, & would never have it near any of my pets. We live on a rural property in the hills & my dogs get to breath beautiful fresh air at all times, so it saddens me when I see pets that have to breath in cigarette smoke 24 hours a day. After reading the post about the actual chemicals in cigarettes, I actually feel physically sick I can't believe I put those chemicals in my body for so many years. I've been smoke free for 5 years now, & feel so much better for it....but only time will tell if my body has been affected in the long term & if my ciggie smoking days come back to haunt me. Thanks again for everyones posts, its been interesting reading everyones views. -
For me personally, I chose C, as I wasn't happy with the food my breeder had the puppy on. My breeder was feeding the pup weetbix & puppy milk for breakfast, canned food & pal dry food for the other meals, which I wasn't to keen about. I slowly changed my pup to 50/50 premium dry food (Advance ) & raw meat combination, with added foods like yoghurt & raw eggs & raw chicken necks & wings a couple of times a week. I weaned my first litter onto a similar diet last year, & from the 4 puppy owners that have kept in contact with me only one of them has partially changed the diet (changing the dry food from the Advance I feed them to Royal canin) but they are still feeding all the other foods that I started them on. All the others are still following the exact same diet. I thought I would add, that it might be a good idea to put this question in general aswell, as you will probably get a bigger response from more puppy buyers there, as only breeders can post in here.

I love the Rogz collar & leads, I put a Rogz pups collar & lead set in my puppy packs for my litter last year, all the owners loved them.

Smoking Around Dogs & Other Pets
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's great Jed, that your family have pets that lived to old age dspite being expsosed to cigarette smoke, but I am still of the opinion that it just isn't right & I would love to get a vets opinion on this topic. I mean dogs may not be human, but they still have a set of lungs & a heart, & if smoking can cause health problems in us , why wouldn't it be the same for pets? We never usually take our dogs to these friends house, but it was a spare of the moment visit & we just happened to have one of our dogs with us. We would of left him outside in their back yard , but their fencing isn't the best. -
Hi guys, I was just wondering what everyones opinion is on smoking around your dog & other pets? I think it is disgusting & just as bad as smoking around children. I have friends that smoke inside their house, & their dogs, cats & cockatiel (which are all indoor pets ) are exsposed to this smoke 24 hours a day. I am not a vet , so I'm not sure what sort of damage passive smoking can do to a pets health, but I seriously think that if animals can suffer from similar health problems as humans do due to passive smokig, then IMO it is a form of abuse. I am a reformed smoker myself, but when I did smoke, I never smoked inside the house, or when one of my pets or a child was near me, I didn't think it was fair to expose my dirty habit to an innocent child or animal. We went to this particular friends house the other day & had one of our dogs with us, when we got home all we could smell was the smoke in our dogs coat, we had to give him a bath straight away it was that disgusting, its just sad to think that all their pets smell like that at all times. Ok that's the end of my rant, :p Very interested to hear others views on this. Thanks guys, I have also added a poll, to get an idea on everyones views.

Hi Megz, What about your breed club? I had a litter of 8 puppies last year & advertised with the Vic Australian terrier club which resulted in me finding 3 fantastic homes. I also had great success with my Dol listing. I have since now done my own website, & have found I am getting calls & emails weekly from people looking for a puppy, & I don't even have a litter at the moment. I recently updated my site that we have just done a breeding, & the possibility of us having a litter in April. I now have 5 people on a waiting list for a puppy from this hopefully future litter. I just hope my bitch is pregnant now & that I don't have to break bad news to these people. It seems that it is really hard to find Australian terrier puppies at the moment. So I was just going to suggest that if you haven't got your own website, it is really worth considering doing one, as I find it gives you the best exposure, & puppy buyers can find out information about your dogs & puppies & yoursel, & also see photos before making contact with you. I find it is the best form of advertising of all. I have a feeling that I will have this hopefully upcoming litter sold before they are even born. Troy has great breeders websites templates that are very user friendly to put together & he offers a 30 day free trial & then I think $85.00 for the year, they look really great & totally worth it for advertising your dogs. Good luck, hopefully you can find great homes for your babies soon.

The one thing I would be worried at a pet sitters house is the potential of them escaping, I mean they have probably been checked out for secure fences & everything, but it would still worry me. Atlest boarding kennels are pretty secure. I was actually curious & had a look at the Imparra website, it looks great, love the theme suites & the playground area with doggy swimming pool.

Who Feeds Canned Dog Food?
Baileys mum replied to shepherdpower's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My 13 yo Aussie terrier x was fed My Dog canned food for 10 years before I joined Dol & started reading about dog nutrition. In that 10 years she was always very healthy & rarely seen the inside of a vet clinic other than her annual vaccination & check up. I now feed all my dogs 50% dry food (Advance) & 50% raw & she is still going well for her age, but it just goes to show that she was able to live a healthy life on the canned food too for all those years. I do have some cans of Natures gift canned in the cupboard for emergencies when I run out of the raw or dry. ;) -
"Good luck everyone"!! hope you all get some beautiful healthy babies.

I can really relate to you all on how stressful it is finding a decent boarding kennel. Our 4 dogs are very spoilt & pampered & my OH & I have been putting it off for years taking a holiday as we are paranoid about boarding kennels (heard to many horror story's) My family have all got there own pets...so it would be a little difficult taking in 4 dogs at once & I don't like the idea of getting a pet sitter to come to our house either. Most pet sitting companies don't really take 4 dogs in the same house & I don't want them separated. So we have come to the descision that we really do need a hoiday & are planning a trip to Tasmania for later on this year (Probably October) We have visited quite a few kennels here in victoria & have finally found a pet resort that we are happy with. We have decided to pay extra for the luxuary suites, each room is huge & is attached to its own grassy run with their own clam shaped pool. Each room is air conditioned & heated have huge cosy beds, flat screen tv's on the wall & a huge pile of toys in the corner. Each room has a glass sliding door leading out to decking & the grassy run. The door is open all day for them to come & go (unless it is extreamly hot or cold) & they are then closed in at night in their room. We have chosen to take out 2 of the suites (2 dogs in each)but they will be next to each other,so can see each other thru the fence. The dogs will also get 3 hours of play time in a 1 acre exercise yard with a staff member every day, plus a brush every day & a complimentary hydrobath & groom before going home. They also get treats & fed premium food. All our friends & family think we are mad for paying for such fancy accommodation for our dogs, but we don't care , they are our babies, & it is either that or we don't go anywhere at all. We got a good vibe from the place, the property looks very clean (even though we didn't make an appointment to inspect & they didn't know we where coming ) the staff all seem friendly & the dogs we saw all looked quite calm & happy. So we have decided to bite the bullet & have booked them in for 2 nights in mid March as a trial while we go away to Echuca for a couple of nights. If we get good feed back from the kennel that the dogs coped well & if the dogs seem happy after we pick them up we will then start planning our Tassie holiday. Even though I am happy with the place we have chosen, it still is very stressful boarding them & doesn't stop me from worrying how they will cope. I only hope the dogs will actually enjoy there holiday, fingers crossed anyway. I hope you all find a kennel you are happy with, maybe do what we are doing & book them in for a couple of nights first to see how they go, Good luck everyone.
