  1. What did it look like MEH, because I know the Shih tzu x Aussie looked weird.
  2. I saw some puppies in a pet shop once that where Australian terrier x Shih tzu, they where the funniest, ugliest looking things. They where the size & colour of an Aussie baby, had the Aussie ears with a Shih tzu face. Don't know why anyone would want to x-breed these two breeds, on their own they are gorgeous looking breeds, but together they are just weird looking.
  3. Sorry to hear that hilaryo Good luck for next season.
  4. It looks great, but being mesh the puppy might be able to chew through it.
  5. Yeah I know,I couldn't believe some one could be so nasty It still upsets me when I think about it, I remember at the time saying to my OH that I would never breed again after dealing with that nutter. :D I ended up finding a gorgeous home for this little girl with a lovely middle aged couple whose kids had all left home, & they spoil her rotten & treat her like a special little princess. They keep in contact with me via facebook & I love looking at all there lovely photos.
  6. I would ring this breeder up anyway & see what she has to say, you never know she might not be that good with repling to emails, but be great when you actually speak to her.. & I don't think you have anything to lose by ringing her. I really don't know why more people don't ring breeders (so much easier than writing an essay in a email ) I sometimes wonder how society coped before email was invented. I get lots of people that email me about my dogs all the time, I always send them a short but sweet email back, & give them the link to my website for more information..I then invite them & give them an appropriate time to call me if they are interested. I always state in my reply that they will not be considered for my waiting list without speaking to me on the ph first. :D Sometimes I will get aPh call, sometimes I will get another email thanking me for my time, sometimes I will never hear from them again. Doesn't really bother me, & it doesn't really take much time to reply to them with a short email. I also agree with other Dolers that if you can't find a suitable puppy in your state, you might have to start looking a little further afield. Good luck!!
  7. I have a personal facebook, but alot of my friends are Dolers & other Australian terrier breeders & enthusiasts. Most of my photos are of my dogs, & most of my wall posts are doggy related. ( Alot of my non doggy friends & family on my facebook think I'm turning into a crazy dog lady ) I am also a member of a couple of Australian terrier facebook groups.
  8. I didn't know that was the law, might have to reconsider taking deposits then, I don't want to be obligated. I must have been lucky with my last litter...I had what I thought at the time a lovely family that came to see the pups at 6 weeks old & put a deposit down on one of my female pups...everyone was happy & I was told they would pick the pup up in 2 weeks time. Anyway a couple of days later I got a call from the lady to say that they where picking the pup up at the end of the week instead (pup would be 7 weeks old ) because the family had decided to take a road trip Qeensland holiday for the school holidays & they wanted to bring the pup with them. When I explained to her that being a registered breeder I am bound by a code of ethics & that I can't release a pup until it is atleast 8 weeks old, & that the pup needs to be with its litter mates & mum till that time anyway, she started swearing at me & abusing me, telling me that I was being unreasonable & over protective....I then tried to explain that I didn't feel comfortable with them taking a baby puppy on such a long road trip anyway & that at that age the pup should be settling into its new home, not being driven half way round the country for 2 weeks, & also that it wouldn't be safe for the puppies health & she wouldn't be fully vaccinated yet & could pick up parvo in public places. I then offered to keep the puppy here for them till they came back...but she just kept swearing at me & saying that I was letting her children down, as they where looking foward to bringing the puppy on holiday with them. I then told her that there was no way I was releasing the pup to them till 8 weeks, there's no way I was going till let them take one of my babies to Qeensland, & if they still wanted the pup, they could pick it up after they come back. I also said I wasn't happy with the way she was speaking to me..& being the pups breeder, I deserve a little more respect than that ... she then yelled at me & said "why should I give you any respect,?" "Your just the puppies breeder!!" & your just a control freak, you can't tell me what to do with my puppy after I pay for it !! & "I have kids here that are crying now & heart broken because of you,"....She then called me a snob & an over protective bitch & then told me to f**k off!! By this stage I was so upset with the way she was speaking to me, that I couldn't even think straight, but I did know that there was NO WAY she was going to get my little girl... I then told her that I would be sending her the deposit back, & that they would not be getting the puppy due to the way she was speaking to me.. & that as the puppies breeder I would like to have a good relationship with my puppy owners, & after this ph call that would never happen..Then I just hung up on her, as I didn't want to hear any more of her abuse. :D I was actually shaking when I got of the ph & had a lump in my throat..like I was going to burst into tears, I just couldn't believe the way she spoke to me...After all the work I put into raising the litter, I didn't deserve to be spoken to that way. I half expected her to ring back & abuse me some more....but she never did, & I sent the deposit back & never heard from them again. There was no way this nut case was going to get one of my babies. :D So I am relieved they didn't take it further, especially after you telling me that the law would be on their side if they had. I think I actually might not take deposits then, I would hate the thought of one of my puppies being stuck in the wrong home.
  9. No No you didnt make me angry, Dogperson. I should have worded it better - I lost my temper. The video and the antics of those cretins made me angry, not you. I'm still really angry about it, though. That could be anyone's little pet and to think they made a joke AND a video about it. Just beyond words. dognurse, dont look at it. It's pretty disgraceful. I agree raz, I'm bloody angry after watching this video too ...absolute assholes, really bloody disgusting ...they should all lose their jobs IMO :D Hopefully the people working in Australian shelters have more compassion than these cruel bastards!!
  10. I hope your breeder has better luck this time riverstar-aura & you finally get your gorgeous Aussie terrier dream puppy, don't forget to post in the Aussie terrier thread when you get him/her. :D
  11. I'm expecting my 2nd litter in about 3.5 weeks time. I have had alot of interest in this litter & have now quite a big waitng list. I haven't promised anyone a puppy yet, I have had a lovely long chat with all of these potential puppy owners, taken their details & the sex of puppy they would preffer & told them I will get back to them, when my bitch has her puppies & we find out what she has. I will then choose the people on my list that I like the most & that I feel would be the best homes for one of my babies (even though everyone on my list sound fantastic, so its going to be hard to choose ) I will ring them back, & if they are still keen on a puppy I will then ask them to foward me a $200.00 deposit. Only refundable if the puppy dies, doesn't pass vet check or if I change my mind about the suitability of them being a good home for my puppy. They will not be refunded for simply changing their mind. If a potential puppy person doesn't want to give me a deposit, then they won't get a puppy, simply as that, & I will choose someone else on my list. I have too much interest in this litter for people to stuff me around, & there's not too many other breeders with a litter of my breed in Australia at the moment, so a puppy is very hard to find. Anyone on my list that doesn't get a puppy this time, is quite welcome to wait till my next litter, or are free to purchase a puppy from another breeder if one comes available.
  12. I sent an email to Dogtainers after seeing this thread, and I got a response within half an hour. It must have just been the particular Dogtainers office you sent the email to. The signature on the email I received back was from the Darwin DT office. Funny you should say that, I put in a request for a quote about an hour ago with Dogtainers, & I just got back a response myself. I've been quoted $150.00 from Melbourne to Cairns including crate hire...which IMO is pretty good, so I'll just have to see what Jetpets quote comes in at.
  13. Thank lynst, I spoke with these people for a good 2 hours & have a great feeling about them,Of course I can't be 100% sure, & its always a gamble not to meet them face to face, but I really do feel that they will love my baby & give it the best home ever. They own & run a resort up there & have offered free accommodation if we ever want to visit.
  14. Halo got into Adelaide just before 4pm with no adverse effects. She left Melbourne at about 2:30 from memory, and it was warmer - about 28C I think. She was drooling, but even now she still drools in the car because she gets car sick. Cost us about $80 to fly from Melbourne to Adelaide, was shocked at how cheap it was. With my last litter we flew little Halo to Adelaide for whiskedaway and Thor to Lobostar in Perth using Wayrod - he was very good and takes a lot of care with the transport organisation - can certainly recommend him. I'd fly from 9 - 12 weeks - any later than that and you may hit a fear period. I'd probably do 10 weeks next time (although the litter wasn't far off it). Oh, the flight from Melb to Adel was just the flight, we had a crate on loan from another DOL friend here (who also used Wayrod). However, we purchased a new crate for the flight to WA. Regardless of who you go through, I would recommend that you purchase a new crate for the puppy - I don't know how stringent some of the companies are in disinfecting their rental crates, and the last thing you want is for a healthy puppy to leave you but arrive at its destination with parvo or something else nasty. Yep I actually have an air line approved crate here which I bought of another Doler when they flew a cat down from Brisbane for my parents, so I will probably just use that ... alot safer & I would hate for one of my babies to be exposed to somehthing nasty.
  15. How long is a flight to cairns from Melbourne?...I'm guessing it would be about 5 hours. I would Probably be best to put the pup on mid morning flight to enable the puppy arrive in the afternoon.
  16. Wow 12 weeks is going a little too far, I would really want the puppy to start bonding with his new family before that age.
  17. Thanks Gaylek, I might actually look into Jetpets, & see if they can give me a quote, it won't be for another 3 months anyway...so I have plenty of time to organise it.
  18. Be careful about running in to the first fear period. That's a good point too Sandra, maybe 9 weeks then.
  19. I was also wondering what time of the day is best to put a puppy on a flight, would a morning flight be better?
  20. That's a good point you make about the vaccination, I think I will probably wait an extra couple of weeks to let the pup get over the vaccination & grow up a little more.
  21. Thanks hilaryo, average litter size is about 3 to 6 , but she had 8 with her last litter & an Aussie terrier breeder friend I have on facebook has a bitch that just had 9.
  22. I have a litter of puppies expected to be born in Mid April (Vet confrmed pregnancy on Tuesday & we saw 6 pups ) I have had alot of interest for this litter & I already have a quite a long waiting list of potential owners here in Victoria. I got a lovely call from a potential owner this morning, we chatted for about 2 hours & they sound like they could provide a perfect home for one of my babies. The only catch is that they live in Innisfail Nth QLD. This is only my 2nd litter & with my last litter all my puppies went to perfect homes here in victoria, with all the owners picking them up from my home. So this would be the first time that I have had to put one of my babies on a plane & the thought of it makes me nervous....but at the same time, these people seem great & I would really like them to have one of my puppies. I was just wondering what other peoples experiences have been transporting pets interstate, especially puppies. Can I transport the pup at 8 weeks old or is it better to wait until they are a couple of weeks older? Is it better to book door to door service? Or would taking the puppy to the airport myself be better. What is the best company to use? I have looked at the Jetpets website & Dogtainers, but haven't got a clue which one is better. What price would we be looking at payin?.These people are quite happy for me to do all the travel arrangements & put the costs in the puppy price, they have even offered another $50.00 for my trouble & the cost of posting my puppy pack up to them, so they are very reasonable. Thanks guys I'm probably making a big fuss over nothing, but seeing this will be my first time of sending one of my babies interstate, any Info & advice would be really appreciated.
  23. I did actually consider an Aussie as I have known a few and as you say they are great little dogs-very underrated, the only thing is the chook issue, we also have Guinea Fowl that wander around the garden...they are great early warning systems for snakes so I like to encourage them! I am definately going to keep aussies in mind tho, as in all other regards they fit the bill. It's great to keep them in mind anyway, We cetainly need more people owning them, & if you can work out a way to safely manage them with your smaller animals, I think an Aussie would be perfect for you. I see you are in Tassie, I do know of a good breeder over there, if your interested please feel free to PM me. Nicole
  24. I'm very biased but I think an Australian terrier ticks nearly all your boxes. They are a very friendly, charming, loyal little family dog with pesonality plus!! They adapt well to all sorts of living conditions including rural or city living, have a low shedding easy to maintain coat, very trainable as they love to please their owners, are very healthy & absolutely adore children. The only downside is being a terrier they have high prey drive & you would really have to watch them around chooks & other small animals. They could be socialised as puppies with small animals, but they would still always need to be supervised together IMO. Other than this an Aussie would be perfect for your home.
  25. Omg :D :p tooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!!! Thanks for posting, and sorry to the OP for taking the thread a little off topic, but i reckon these photos are worth it!
