  1. Totally agree RSA...my Aussies are extreamly tough & hardy, & have no problems playing rough with my BIL's Rotti. You would have to watch the Dobes with an Aussie puppy, but that would apply to any breed of puppy you get. Aussies are really good at agility, are very easily trained, & pick up tricks very easily too. The mother of my next Aussie puppy "Eva" is an agility champion in NZ, & also excels at Paws N Music routines. Here is a clip of her practicing at home for her Paws n Music Surfer girl routine with her owner...this was their 1st attempt
  2. I only bath my dogs about once every 2 months, ( unless they get extreamly dirty or roll in something gross ) I use Bio Groom Wirey coat shampoo, because it is suitable for terrier coats. :)
  3. I don't know of any pets that have had a limb amputated, but I want to share this video with you of my friends little 6 week old Australian terrier puppy from her latest litter...he was born missing one of his front legs. Here little Sparrow is having fun playing with her beautiful Aussie Shepherd Molly :) As you can see, he is moving well, even running at one stage & seems to be coping fine...I believe pets adapt very well. :)
  4. Great photos Grumpette, you could make a great calendar with these pics...I've just ordered a couple of Rottie calendars for my Inlaws for Christmas, but your photos are so much better than the photos in the calendars. :)
  5. As I stated in my other post, I tell all my puppy owners, that I will take the puppy back, if they can no longer keep it, & rehome it myself, & I have written this into my puppy contract of sale...I would hope that my owners would honour this if they could no longer keep the dog for whatever reason. I don't breed very often, so don't have too many dogs I have bred out in the world. I also live on acreage, so have plenty of room & don't have a problem doing this....I would be devestated if I found out one of my babies ended up in a pound or was rehomed to a irresponsible person. ETA: I screen my puppy homes very carefully, & so far all my owners have been great, most of them keep in contact, & all are very happy with their puppies...no one has returned a puppy yet. :)
  6. I would give my Brandy several drinks a day of goats milk, water, raw egg & yoghurt,... she had heaps of milk, & all my puppies (litter of 9) gained good weights every day & where very chubby babies :)
  7. Great pics everyone...this is just proof that dogs & cats can live in harmony together & even be great friends, if socialised properly! :)
  8. So glad your Nana got her little dog back :) ...The same thing happened to us years ago on New years eve. Our little Aussie terrier x escaped our back yard in fear, because some of the neighbours where letting off fire works. When we got home from a News years party we where devestated when she wasn't in the back yard & looked for her all that night & whole of the next day, putting up posters everywhere too. Unfortunately being New years day & a public holiday, the pound wasn't opened till the next day, so it was a very anxious wait till the next day. Well we went down 1st thing in the morning (the pound was full to the max ) & what a relief that she was there, & we didn't care about paying the release fee, just relieved to have her back. :) Looking back it was probably our fault, as we should have contained her inside the house being New years Eve, or brought her with us...these days we never go out on New years Eve , we stay home with the dogs, & people can come & celebrate with us. :) I would be totally devestated if a puppy I had bred ended up in the pound, & I know I can speak for alot of breeders, that they would rather take the dog back & rehome it themselves, if the owner couldn't keep it anymore, rather than it end up in the pound. I have told all my owners this, & written it into my puppy contract of sale, so I just have to trust my puppy owners that they would do the right thing, if for any reason they could no longer keep the dog. ETA: when we picked her up, they had on her form whereabouts she was picked up from, which was about 5 km's from home...poor thing must have been terrifies I don't remember if the staff where grumpy or not, just remembered that we where so relieved & happy to get her back. :)

  12. I've been feeding my lot Black Hawk for over a year now, & they are doing really well on it, very happy with it,& will not be changing any time soon. :) I did this exact same topic last year in the health section (also with a poll)...I tried linking it, but it wouldn't work But you can find it if you go into my profile & look at my content, of topics I have started. :)

  16. Thanks guys, Reggie is a great cat with a fantastic patient temperament, he loves puppies, & they seem to love him too...he is very helpful for my friend when she is socialising the puppies to be cat friendly. Here are some more pics of Reggie hanging out with my friends 4 month old Aussie pup, & some younger puppies from her last litter :)
  17. Hi everyone, I just thought I would share this cute pic of a good friend of mine's litter of 4 week old Aussie terrier puppies & her adorable cat Reggie ...he really loves puppies & likes to help out raising them :)
  18. Wayrod was absolutely amazing! I have truly never come accross anyone more helpful. The mating had been planned for 1 year. Stud dog carefully chosen; (stud dog lives approimately 350 KM SOUTH of Melbourne) I planned to drive bitch to stud dog at the right time. The bitch has been like clockwork with her seasons, till now. Bitch was not due for season till 1 1/2 months from now, Co owners/carers, carefully planned to drive her to Melbourne 2 weeks BEFORE expected season was expected to begin. Owners went away for 10 days overseas. Arrived home to CANBERRA, Friday night after 18 hour flight & housesitter/Mother In Law, (not a dog person not a breeder), mentions she "thinks the bitch has been in season for about a week". Hopefully with Wayrod help alls well & will end well wayrod is amazing...have used his services in the past & would use them again. He is so helpful, excellent customer service & a very nice guy to talk to aswell. :)
  19. I only have time for the ocassional quick look, & the odd post here & there on Dol lately, as I spend most of my computer time on FB recently in various groups...so I'm not too worried about my "dol meter"...my FB meter would be a differen't story though.
  20. My Inlaws that are in their mid 60's recently lost their Rottweiler,& have said they are now not getting any more dogs, due to their age & the fact that they now want to travel more, so I think it is really personal choice. With my last litter, one of my puppies went to a couple in their 70's, but their daughter is very much involved too, & I'm sure if anything where to happen to her parents, she would take the dog. I don't have a problem with older people getting one of my puppies, aslong as they have a plan in place if anything where to happen to them, & I will always take the dog back myself & rehome it, if the plan where to change. :) I think everyone needs to have a plan for their dogs (no matter what age you are ) if anything was to happen to us.
  21. I saw this on FB, & I'm sure alot of us here can relate to this, I know I certainly do!
  22. Yeah I think I will, I'm not very happy with their attitude, I mean if other vets are happy enough to do it that way, I don't really know what there problem is. It's handy that this vet is only a 5 minute drive from us, & good incase of an emergency, but I'm disappointed in their attitude. You can buy the chips yourself directly from the distributor and take them with you to the vet or to who ever implants them. I have seen sites where you can order chips online, but they said that you have to be a licenced implanter to buy them, & have to give your licence no when ordering them. Is there a site that sells them to the general public?
  23. Yeah I think I will, I'm not very happy with their attitude, I mean if other vets are happy enough to do it that way, I don't really know what there problem is. It's handy that this vet is only a 5 minute drive from us, & good incase of an emergency, but I'm disappointed in their attitude.
  24. I won't do a breeding until I have a waiting list for people wanting a puppy from me, but there is always a chance that I get a big litter or someone changes their mind & I'll have to advertise a couple of puppies. I have a small breed, & there's no way I would microchip any of my babies until they are atleast 6-7 weeks old. I've already asked my vet if I would be able to purchase the chips early to get the numbers for the ad & then get them implanted when the puppies are older, but they have told me they're not comfortable with that agreement,so it is very frustrating. I haven't asked them about the vet certificate yet,but I am hoping they will give me one or I might have to change vets...I want to do a breeding in the 1st half of next year, so hopefully my vet can help me out with the certificate. This law is just so ridiculous, especially for registered breeders, as we have to provide chip numbers to register the puppies anyway, so its not like we will be selling them without microchipping....I heard we can't even announce the litter on our own personal web sites without providing chip numbers, which is very annoying, because I like to start a puppy album from the minute they are born, so my puppy owners can follow their growth & development.
  25. Thank you everyone for your replies :) I agree it's very hard to watch our beloved dogs age, & when I hear stories about people losing their dogs at a young age, I do really feel for you & feel blessed that all my beautiful dogs are healthy & still by my side...I guess I just get sad that their birthday means they are 1 year older & it is a reminder that I will lose them some day. I don't have children, so my dogs are my only family, & Bailey is just so special to me too. I do have Jessie my 14 yo recue Aussie terrier x, & she is starting to really slow down in the last 6 months, so I'm getting very worried about losing her, even though she is still quite healthy for her age. The only thing I can do for them is love them & give them the best life I can possibly give them. Any way I just want to wish my beatiful Bailey a very Happy 6th Birthday today!! He is an absolute joy, & I feel very blessed that I have him in my life! I love him so much & he will be very spoilt & pampered today!!
