The way I see it..Puppies still cost the same to breed & raise no matter if they are show or pet quality & while I admit there may be some breeders in it for the money, most ethical breeders will be lucky just to recoup the money spent breeding & raising the litter.

x2..I have also been asked if my price was negotiable & pretty much said the same thing & they where also happy with the answer. I have also been asked if I would sell them a puppy without papers at a lower price..which I have also said no too, as all my puppies are registered & go with papers & I do not charge different prices for limited or main papers either.

Yeah she obviously didn't want her puppy buyers to find out that she had scammed them into believing that they where buying a proper purebreed dog rather than a very exspensive designer x-breed. Glad you wrote on the certificates what they actually where, rather than the stupid designer name. -
They are beautiful becks.

Wow 13 skyehaven You are going to be very busy in the next couple of months. Congratulations!! :D

How Did You Choose Your Breed Or Breed ?
Baileys mum replied to jase293's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Jason & welcome to DoL When my hubby & I moved in together in 1998 we decided we wanted to get a small terrier type dog. My family had owned a Cairn terrier so I really liked small terriers. We where going to rescue one from the pound, but then my hubby came home from work one day & told me that one of his work mates wanted to get rid of his 6 month old Aussie terrier x JRT (which he had BYB'd himself ) & then realised he didn't want to keep anymore. He said if he couldn't find her a home soon...he was going to take her to the pound. So of course we went to have a look at her that night , & she was so friendly & sweet & right then & there she became ours. We took her home that night & now Jessie is 13 & has been the best companion for us & we love her dearly. When Jessie was 8 we decided we where ready for a 2nd dog, so we decided that seeing Jessie had been such a great dog & she shows alot of her dads Aussie terrier personality that we would get a purebred Aussie terrier this time....So we got Bailey & fell in love & where totally hooked from then on. Our breeder then sold us our foundation bitch Brandy..we got our breeders prefix & under our breeders guidance we then bred our first litter ..& have kept Jasper ..a little boy from the litter. We are expecting our next litter next week & hopefully we will be keeping a bitch puppy from this litter or possibly from a future litter.. & we will be probably buying another bitch puppy from another breeder in the near future too. I think I will always own Aussies terriers now, but since being on Dol I have really started to fall for Australian shepherds too, & hope to own 1 in the future. -

unfortunately alot the general public really do think that these designer mutts are actually a real breed, they pay alot of money for a puppy, even get papers (not ANKC papers) & are confinced that they have been sold something very special. It's pretty sad when people are so sure they are an actual breed that they go to a dog show hoping to meet breeders though. -
That is awesome I've just had SpikesPuppy and SerenityStar over here playing count the babies.. lol! it's fun. Yep it's lots of fun speculating how many & what sexes they will be. How many is your girl suppose to be having? Are you getting nervous yet?...this is your first litter isn't it? This is my 2nd litter & I'm starting to get a little nervous now that whelping time is fast approaching, she had a text book whelping last time, all puppies where alive & healthy & Brandy was a Super Mum..but I still get stressed out that things could go wrong this time...I'm sure even the most experienced dog breeder get the pre whelping jitters though.

What a bloody idiot!! Seriously I really don't know what goes through peoples heads sometimes...I mean what righ minded person would even think of breeding their little Westie with a much larger Lab anyway?? Oh & if he is a registered breeder he should be reported to his canine council for trying to cross breed. -
Well, I've taken offense. I have two very well behaved Fox Terriers and two JRTx. Your gross generalisation seriously shits me. To top it off you are braggiing about walking your dog off leash and breaking the law. Good one. I would take offence too if I was a JRT or Fox terrier owner. I've met quite a few Foxie's & JRT's & they have been lovely well mannered little dogs. I think it is really bad form to generalise them all as horrible dogs..especially on a Purebred dog forum, where we should be promoting our Pure breeds ..not bagging out a whole breed because you've met a couple you didn't like. I'm not sure what your favourite breed is, but I'm sure it would offend you if someone came on here & said that your breed in general was horrible, dominant & bossy, just because they met a few they didn't like.

Yeah she looks like she is about to explode...we saw 6 blobs on the ultrasound, but the vet said their could be the possibility of 1 or 2 more hiding further up. She had 8 with her last litter..so wouldn't be surprised if she has 8 again.

Unfortunately, 99% of your average Joe think exactly this way. I had a hard time convincing my ex housemate that it could just as easily be one of hers, so I went with the "your puppies will take up homes that may have gone to those pound puppies, so either way more pups will die if you do this" argument. That, and the risk of awful things going wrong and losing her beloved girl, seemed to work. Funny he didn't mention his main motivation - he thinks there's a buck in it for him! :D Actually I think in most one-off cases money isn't a factor, they are just ignorant and naive and really do love their dogs so much that they think everyone would love one of their puppies. I was there myself many years ago before I found DOL. I really did think Kuges was the absolute bees knees, and a few people had said they would love a dog like him, and that little part of you that really loves your dog says "They don't live long, if you have a pup, it will be like a little bit of Kuges lives on..." This is particularly relevant for x-breed owners because you can't simply go out and get another of the same breed. Some will learn, some are not able to be educated, all we can do is keep trying. Yep mita, it didn't matter what I said to him, there was just no changing this blokes mind..I only hope he has trouble finding a stud dog, but I'm sure unfortunately there is probably an unethical breeder out there looking for some extra cash that will give him what he wants. Just be grateful that there are very few Aussie breeders (especially in Vic) and the ones that I know would probably hang and quarter this guy before they would let him use their stud dogs. If he's that determined and if your arguments didn't give him food for thought, he will probably eventually look for a similar sort of x-breed to cross. Let's just hope that if he gets the same messages repeated from all the breeders he phones that eventually the idea will take hold in his brain that what you are all saying has merit. Don't think that what you said made no difference though. He may have still seemed determined on the phone, but that was all within seconds of you telling him, things take a while to germinate. Great post hortfurball...I can only hope you are right & a little bit of what I have said to him did get through & he might actually think twice about breeding..especially if other breeders he may have rung have told him the same thing. :D -
I totally agree. I have a small dog who could be very damaged by larger dogs and how do I know who has effective control over their dogs? Off leash dogs are one of the reasons I don't like walking my dog. Totally agree, I have a small breed too & this is one of the reasons I rarely walk our dogs of our 40 acre property..irresponsible owners with off leash dogs in on leash areas really annoy me. This person may of been over the top, but I too would have been upset if your off leash Rotti had of come near one of my Aussie terriers...I mean how am I suppose to know that your dog is non agressive? Having said that I also think owners of small dogs that walk their dogs off leash in on leash areas are irresponsible too.
