  1. Awww...Indigo seems lovely, I think it would be really worthwhile for the OP to check her out,it looks as if she ticks all the boxes of what they are looking for.
  2. I also agree it's the nature of the dog & not the sex...I have 2 entire boys here,( father & son )they get along just fine, & so far I have had no serious problems. I also have 2 bitches, 1 is entire & the other is desexed & they also get along with each just fine. So far my little pack is living together in harmony despite their sexes.
  3. Hi everyone, I have one of my pups from last years litter coming to stay with us tomorrow for 3 weeks while his owners go overseas on holidays. Rufus is now 15 months old & has been toilet trained as a puppy to use a doggy door & take himself out to the toilet. problem is that we don't use a doggy door here, & all my dogs just tell me they need to go by standing at our glass sliding door. Do you think Rufus will get the same idea to do this & just follow our other dogs outside, or should I expect to see some accidents. I know he will probably feel a little lost at the start & will take a while to settle in, so I was just after some ideas & tips to settle him aswell as tips with his toileting. Thanks everyone, i'm very excited about one of my babies coming to stay, but also want to make sure that he settles in well & enjoys his stay with us.
  4. I agree, it all depends how gentle Zeus is with Kirah R-A. I would do what you said & watch from a distance to see how they interact with each other. if all seems ok, then start giving short periods of time together unsupervised, until you feel you can trust them alone together all the time. I just got sent some photos of Jedi playing with his best friend Rusty who is a 6 month old Hungarian Vizla pup...the size difference is so funny, but from what jedi's owner has told me Rusty is so gentle with jedi & they have had no problems. I also received some pics of Bridget (purple collar puppy ) with her best friend Bonnie the Pembroke corgi...once again there is a size difference, but Bridget's owner has had no problems of them being together at all times from day one. How is little Kirah going?....would really love to see some new pics of her. :
  5. Rehoming the dog to a city home isn't necessarily going to solve the problem either. I know quite a few people that live in a residential home that have pet chooks. I agree with Persephone, surely they can find a way to manage the problem...whether it is training or a more secure dog run. Might be a good idea to post this in the rescue forum too.
  6. What gorgeous old souls Tammy & Buddy are. Good on you for giving these golden oldies such a loving home.
  7. Yeah it doesn't seem fair that a cockatoo can live to 80 & dogs only live to a fraction of that. Maybe they only have short lives to enable us to own many dogs through our life time rather than just one or two.
  8. This Also - how many messages has your friend left? If she has only left 1 or 2, I would keep ringing. The breeder may have not got the message and have honestly posted the papers. I agree with the abve comments. It is totally possible that the breeder did in fact send the papers and they have gone missing. I had my prefix items go missing twice thanks to Australia Post yep i agree it could be Australia post....Dogs Vic sent back one of my dogs registration certificate after transferring her into my name, but I never received it. I had to sign a stat dec form & send it back to Dogs Vic, so they could send me out a duplicate certificate. The original certificate is still out there somewhere, & after 3 years I still haven't seen it. I would try ringing the breeder again.
  9. I totally agree. i think you are not sounding ready for a puppy. i think you need to get some help now you have a bull breed dog in an aparment. whom who dont have any understanding of its needs. maybe someone will put a link up too those books about puppy raising. CALL THE BREEDER AND GET SOME HELP make the call now to get some help do the right thing. get up in the night to this pup. or send it back so it can be rehomed. and do some reserch and get a breed more suited to what you want and maybe an older dog. this is a baby like a baby human it wakes needs to go to the toliet and needs love and reassurance. I also agree... do not let your puppy toilet in her crate, this is where she sleeps & shouldn't be her toilet too ,you need to get up every 2 to 3 hours during the night to let her pee... Puppies are alot of work, & you need to be prepared to put the time & effort in to care for her & train her properly. If you feel you are not coping & aren't prepared to put the work in, then maybe it would be better to send her back to her Breeder now for rehoming. She shouldn't be spending so much time in her crate...if you need to confine her during the day when you are unable to watch her, buy a puppy pen & put her toys, food ,water & bed in it. Atleast this will be better than being cooped up in her crate all the time. Good luck, but please remember that this baby is totally relying on you to love her, reassure her,& train he properly....if you feel you can't give her these things & not coping please send her back to her breeder.
  10. Thanks everyone for sharing....Dogs IMO just don't live long enough, so it's lovely to hear stories of dogs living to such old ages. My oldest dog Jessie (who is a Aussie terrier x JRT) is currently 13.5 YO & still going strong. She is going deaf, but is still very healthy & active,& is still able to keep up with my much younger Pure bred Aussies. I am hoping she sticks around to a grand old age too.
  11. Wow another wonderful survivor & by the sounds of it still going strong, I hope you many more years with him still. I agree..we just don't have them long enough. That's fantastic Austerra...6 km is fantastic for such an elderly dog, so lovely to hear she was still so active right up till the end.
  12. Wow 25 is absolutely fantastic ....my sister had to PTS her purebred Maltese last year at the age of 15, she was blind, deaf, & had doggy dementia in the end, so it is so amazing to hear of a dog of a similar breed to live 10 years more than her. How precious that you had a knitting club at your boarding kennel...it must have been lovely to watch.
  13. Wow that is a great age for a Rottie...what is the average age they live to? My inlaws beautiful Rottie died in his sleep at 10 years old.
  14. Awww...what a little survivor he was, RIP Max.
  15. I received an email enquiry the other day from a lady looking for an Aussie terrier puppy. She said in her email that her previous Aussie lived to the grand old age of 23...I have a friend that had an Aussie live to 19,which is fantastic, but 23 is so amazing!! I thought it would be interesting to know from other Dolers if you know of a dog that lived to a grand old age, how old did it live to? what breed it was? & what the average life span of that breed usually is? Aussie terrier life span is usually 12 to 15, so for one to live to 23 is a real survivor.
  16. Another vote for Wayrod here ...He organised a flight from Melb to cairns for one of my puppies from my last litter, Done it for a great price, very professional & helpful service, & a very nice bloke to talk to aswell.
  17. Are you absolutely positive that the dog isn't chipped?...I've heard of cases where the chip has moved, so this could be the case with your dog.
  18. I'm the same as you Allerzeit...I will usually ask all my questions during the first telephone conversation, I will then give the person the opportunity to ask me questions too. I try & make the conversation feel informal & friendly, so as not to make the person feel intimidated (I think this approach makes the person feel more relaxed & they tend to open up more about themselves.) If anyone gets offended by my questions that's fine.. they are free to look elsewhere. Like you said I have to make sure I'm placing my puppies in homes that I am happy with...so I need to gather information to enable me to make that decision. Sorry your feeling bad Poodle Mum...don't let this person get you down, I'm sure there are a lot more puppy buyers out there that will be more than happy to answer your questions to get one of your precious babies.
  19. "Congratulations Sway"I have made 2 large orders from you in the past,& was very happy with your very professional service, for a newbie breeder like myself just starting out,& pretty much needing everything , it was very handy being able to buy all my whelping supplies from the one site, your whelping kits are excellent for a new breeder starting out, & love your puppy id collars too....Will definately continue to order from you in the future.
  20. Yes & the funny thing is they seem to enjoy it too.My boy Bailey actually asks me to start singing by jumping on my lap, looking into my eyes & then making like a whiney noise...as if to say "Cmon mum sing"!! As soon as I start singing he instantly joins in & starts howling, & then my younger boy Jasper will start joining in too. There favourite songs at the moment are "You are my Sunshine", & the tv show "The Love Boat" theme song. Its pretty insane in my household sometimes. ...& it's a good thing I live on a rural property, so I have no neighbours to hear us. But the dogs & I have alot of fun & they seem to share my crazy sense of humour too.
  21. No required health tests for Australian terriers either.
  22. Thanks for your help I notice that you are also in Vic...I was just wondering if you have any recommendations for a good vet that carries the rabies vaccine? Thanks Nicole
  23. I met this lady via the Australian terrier International facebook group.I & this lady also have mutual friends with many other Aussie breeders & owners from Australia, the US, UK, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland & a few other countries that has now slipped my mind. This breeder seems to be quite popular & seems to have alot of respect from other breeders that live locally to her. I think she is friends in real life with some of these other breeders because they meet up at dog shows all the time. I'm pretty sure I could get a reference from these other people before sending one of my babies to her.
