  1. I have found training my dogs has actually helped my confidence. There are quite a few well meaning people you will bump into that might tell you all sorts of things like "let the dogs sort it out for themselves" when introducing your dogs who have never met or in over rough play that "it is ok cos they are just playing". Trust yourself and your dogs body language and know that if it doesn't feel right then don't allow it. I don't nessessarily think that not having a great amount of confidence with people always equates to not having enough confidence with a more dominant dog. You just need to honestly assess your own capabilities.
  2. I had never heard of fear periods so I would have liked to have seen the puppy develpement calender that is a sticky in the puppy forum. That is ok to do your research tell the vet if you are not comfortable with something. Such as not having the 3 year c5 vaccination and 12 month heartworm injection in the same consult. Not to think undesired behaviours are going to resolve themselves or keep using ineffective methods to no result. Now if I felt I was not making progress with something I would get help sooner rather than later before they have become more learned and more ingrained. Get more puppy photos and really realise how quickly the puppy stage flies by. Enjoy every minute and make the most of that time to help your pup grow into a well adjusted and well behaved dog. It has been stated on here many times but I think it is excellent advise....."Start how you intend to continue".
  3. In my little area everyone is like clockwork with walking their dogs around the block. You could just about set the time to it. But my neighbours very rarely see me walk my dogs and I wouldn't be surprised if there has been gossip about that. The fact is though, my dogs are either walked later in the evenings or taken in the car out to parks, trails or beaches. I am quite strict with any barking and cannot get over people allowing their dogs to bark all through the night.
  4. Happy Birthday Rex. Liver for dessert? Gotta love dogs. Have fun spoiling you precious boy today, Monelite.
  5. I was sitting at the computer one night and my old girl kept wandering in and whining. When I would look at her she would move to the door but say focused on me. I kept ignoring her for quite a while but when it continued thought I'd better see what she wanted so I followed her through the house. All the while she kept turning back to make sure I was following. She took me to where her bed is and looked at me, looked at her bed, looked at me with the most intense look. I realised she wanted me to lift up her doona so she could get in and be all covered and tucked up. At the expense of humanising, when she saw me motion towards the doona she looked relieved. She crawled in, comletely covered by the doona and I didn't hear a peep out of her for the rest of the night.
  6. I agree Greymate. But when it comes to dogs it trully amazes me how people seem to believe their own lies and excuses with such ferver and total comittment. Shame they don't have that type of committment to the dog.
  7. Yep, I meant the 'mushy' noise. I think they need wings to make the buzzing sound but the disgusting little squirmers have to make the squirming, mushy noise.
  8. Hi Sagely. I can't help you with your question as I don't have Staffords but just wanted to say to DOL. Big thumbs up for doing your research and I am sure the Stafford people will be along soon to help you with your question.
  9. Woah ee woah aa. I find it absolutely amazing that he didn't seek any medical attention before his car accident.
  10. I think if there are quite a few dogs running around then it is only sensible that kids arent welcome unless invited.
  11. Just want to send my healing wishes to Grover for a quick and good recovery, Trisven.
  12. So glad you have your beautiful girl home and on the mend.
  13. She is a real cutey. Hope it all went well and she is settling in ok.
  14. I remember when you posted that last time and I searched for it to quote in here but couldn't find it. It really stuck with me. So so sad.
  15. Big hugs BB. Thanks for sharing about your beautiful wiggly bummed, heart dog. :D
  16. That last pic is just beautiful. I could see that ending up in the MDBA dog book. You should post it in general in the 'smiling dogs' topic.
  17. Out of all the humans and dogs in the world you found each other and belonged to each other and you always will. My heart truly goes out to you, DW. I know that horrible mental loop that plays over and over after a devestation such as this but I am glad that yours also has your little piggy gnawing on his pigs ear. Run and romp free and fast beautiful boy.
  18. I really like those ones. They're vishus when you want them to be but really good at babysitting the kids when I'm on me computer. You definately should get one that understands English. Cant stand it when you tell them to do something and they look at you like they don't understand.
  19. I think people make far too much of grooming their dogs. Sure its a good money spinner but I'm not in that line myself. If you never take them anywhere and don't let them in the house does it really matter what they look or smell like I think you'd be better buying a tin shed for the whelping side of things. Personally its better to keep the buyers off the property so they can't find you. Just meet them in a park somewhere. If you want to spend big bucks on a whelping set up, get a colourbond shed. When the pups freak out in their new homes because they've not been handled or accustomed to domesticity, blame the owners for failing to socialise them enough. I've got a rickty old tin shed that I store my firewood in but it lets a fair bit of rain in. I could put them in there but I don't want to ruin my cardboard boxes. So are whelping boxes really that necessary or just some fandangled thing made up by those self righteous purebread snobs that are so over the top about the "ethical and responsible breeding" crap. They're just nasty. They got me kicked off some purebread forum the other day just cos they're jealous i gonna cut in to their profits. Don't know what they're complaining about...They could make way more moula if they didn't waste their money on vets, worming, vaccinations and all that other stuff. Dogs coped just fine when they were in the wild. Sheeesh.
  20. Also forgot to ask. With the blue Bord(eau)oodle, I know they don't require clipping but do the grapes need to be picked at maturity and what type of grooming tool would I use for that? I don't really want to do any grooming at all if I can get away with it because...you know....dogs are a bit dirty and all. I rather not have to handle them.
  21. If you take payments via Western Union then I'll order a bakers dozen; 1 male 12 female. I do hope you are breeding them so that they are genetically predisposed to have their first heat by 12 weeks otherwise it will mess with my breeding program and I'll have to cancel my order. I would be mighty disappointed though as I have already collected 12 cardboard boxes as my whelping boxes and have managed to rearrange them so they all fit snuggly into my laundry (so obviously all dogs will need to get along). No kennel dogs here. Customers can even come into my home and view the parents IF I can remember who goes with who.l Lol. So excited. P.S. Will I be alright to start rehoming once the pups begin to lose interest in their mums milk? As you could well imagine I don't think I could afford to feed that many dogs.
  22. Here are the orders for you PF. Beenie wants a StaffyPoo in the colour blue that uses the loo and the one for ijdavis chrissy stocking, or else she will sue.
  23. The day I walked past it seemed the salon had doors that opened right across the shop front and the dog was sitting right at the front just up the step and not tethered.
