Unfortunately they all have grain in them. Even the fish one has oats and rice. Such a shame as it is so much cheaper than the grain free foods and Australia made. I have found earthborne holistic, Canidae and TOTW to be good. Lately I've been trying the VIP Grain free one from Woolies. The chicken and duck one has no beef. It seems good, though obviously not as good as the high end ones.

I always get asked if Hamish is a labradoodle. A guy working at a pet store said "what's that?" After I said he was an Airedale...it just seemed more amusing as they have books on Airedales a few of the clipper boxes behind the counter have Airedales on them. A few other times He's gotten Scottie and bedlington

There isn't one. They said they'd look into it.

Communication Breakdown In Rspca Kills Family's Dogs
Cat replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
Indeed. Though one article said it was because they were in the process of replacing the fence which is why she took them to work though from what ES says that may not be the case. Regardless...if they knew she was getting together the money they should have let her know they were about to kill her dogs. i personally think $900 is a bit ridiculous. -
good stuff

Ah, I had wondered about the short hair.

Sorry...it was in yesterday's paper. It says Tibbie, but I don't know enough about the breed to say either way. Unfortunately I don't think the website and FB pages are kept up to date. Hopefully the attachment is clear enough

Apparently there is also a Tibetan spaniel at port stephens pound.

Good stuff! I hope to do agility eventually. I'd like to retract my statement about them be being too boisterous with small children. Since then my boy has had more exposure to kids. While he is very bouncy and excited with adults he does not do this with children. I assume because they are on the same level. He has even received praised with how gentle he is It could very well depend on the dog though.

Yeah. One of my dogs has an autoimmune disease and I'd like to get a second opinion. Thanks
-
Can anyone recommend a vet in the newcastle or port stephens area? Especially if they are very knowledgable about autoimmune diseases
-
Thanks. I had come across a different one but don't think it is active anymore

CC, Hamish is on 40 mg a day. Poor Louis. I imagine it is much more obvious with a Chinese crested. I've let Hamish get rather wooly so the skinniness isn't as obvious but it is quite a shock when I pat him or give him a cuddle. It has certainly taught me that you shouldn't just automatically think the worst of people if you see an emaciated looking dog. We haven't been able to reduce as yet, have to wait for his platelet count to get higher. It is pretty sad seeing him like this and can't wait until he is happier and looking healthier KP, he has immune mediated thrombocytopenia...which means his immune system is attacking the platelets in his blood.

Poor Alfie Seems to be a horrible drug though necessary Thanks. Hamish is really thirsty as well but hasn't been sick yet. I heard that it is good as he needs to flush out his kidneys so haven't been overly concerned. Only problem is that he has to go out through the night. but really a small price to pay all things considered. Though I thought tonight with the speed which he tries to consume things bloat could be a worry... I'll try to figure something out...I am not sure how likely the small meals are because of us both working during the day. I could give it to him when i get up or when I get home, but he needs a different tablet an hour or two before the Prednisone which needs to be on a fairly empty tummy. He does love carrots so I will try that. I made pumpkin for the first time this week as he had an upset tummy from the meds and he seemed to like it...OH on the otherhand complained about the smell the whole time *eyeroll man*

. For what I've read the muscle wont come back until he comes off the prednisdone and I don't know how long that will be yet. I didnt know about hyperactivity...havent really noticed it except maybe for when he scavenging. Aside from that he is not as energetic as he used to be. But I assume that is from being unwell and all the drugs he is on Thanks for the replies.

My dog has always been slim and I have always fed him more than the bag recommends as he is active and burns it off. He also gets yoghurt every night and sometimes fish. He now has an autoimmune disease which he takes prednisdone for. One of the side effects is that he is always hungry. He thinks he is starving and at times seems quite desperate. Another side effect is muscle wastage so he is becoming really bony Has anyone had any experience with this? I feel horrible and don't know if I should give him more or if I can give him something else to fill him up. If I give him more food is it likely to ever be enough or no because of the steroids?

I'd hate to think you are right here, but this could well be the case. Again Huskies would be a poor choice for a fighting dog me thinks. When it was happening last year all sorts of dogs were being taken, even littlies to be used as bait. That was the theory anyways. Fur is an interesting idea

Maybe they are being used for fighting? That seems to be what a lot of thefts are about

So you yourself admit that there is "goodness knows what" breeds mixed in there and yet you will state that they are Pitties? Seems pretty bizarre logic. Why are people so caught up in labeling breeds? As if suddenly knowing what breed the dog MIGHT be will shed light on everything? I have a mixed breed dog, adopted as a puppy from the RSPCA as a Staffy cross. She is now above knee height, has a high waist tuck and is gawd knows what breed mixes. There are so many possible breed mixes that MAY make up her looks. She could be a small "bull arab" mix, an Amstaff X Whippet, a dalmation x staffy... the list goes on and the likelyhood that there are MANY breeds in her genetics stop me from even bothering to guess. Yet everyone is so caught up in labels that they cannot take "Mixed breed" for an answer. We are out walking and someone will comment on how lovely she is and asks, "What breed is she?", I reply with "She is a mixed breed dog"...."Yes, but what breeds?" "Mixed of unknown origins" "Yeah but what kinds...". It is bizarre and can go around and around in circles, most people simply cannot take "Mixed breed" for an answer even though it is the most accurate I can give. Many people believe that their BYB dogs are purebred. The amount of times I have seen someone claiming that their dog or puppies are purebred when you can clearly tell that they are NOT is astronomical. Seen it in Rotties, Neo Mastiffs, Mastiffs, Dobermans, Staffords, Amstaffs, Cavs, Poodles, Chihuahuas... the list is endless. How are we to know that the owners of these three dogs didn't truly believe that they were Staffies, or that their breed was predominantly staffy? They do appear to be Stafford CROSSES and given the huge numbers of "purebred" staffies being BYB, quite often crossed with Amstaffs, the breed confusion is understandable. I have seen people actually advertising pups as PUREBRED Staffies and going on to state that they are bred from "purebred (unpapered I would assume)" SBT mother and a purebred Amstaff father and so therefore they are still "Purebred" Staffies . It defies logic and yet people, who do not educate themselves further, believe it. Yes these dogs looked too tall to be SBT but at the same time they looked to short to be Amstaffs. This thread has been very educational and I enjoyed reading the advice on how to intervene in a dog fight and/or protect yourself and your dogs. Very enlightening. NO dear to save your fragile sensibilities they are hence forth to be described as chihuahua crosses. So? Has anyone contstructive ideas what do we do we need to carry on our person when bluff doesnt work and the attack is in earnest, what do you do next, if we are caught alone with no outside help forthcomming, when these chi x'breds like the ones in the video, or the mega bulk ones that took the jogger down, dont back off and wont let go. You're the one intent on labels.

Of course no other possible dog breed could contribute to a red nose... And it was the article that said staffy...
-
Isn't that a totally different breed

Interesting, thanks. He sounds lovely!
