YIKES talk about "poor man pays twice" On the subject of dogs doing some agility training in a well fitting harness...& I am not talking about competition....I feel there is no more risk of a dog getting caught up on equipment if it is wearing a well fitted harness, as if it were wearing a collar. Getting caught up on a collar could result in a broken neck or hanging..whereas a harness would result in a bad fright. I have seen dogs getting "hung" when wearing collars...I am yet to see one hung from wearing a well fitted harness. She wears a harness at training because she carries on like a pork chop if the other dogs are running & barking This is another reason I had wanted one - he gets very revved up when it's others turn.

I'm am still at the foundation level and the jumps are only low at this stage. Weird that one of the instructors had recommended using a harness. ????Guess ill have to go without

I am using it for agility mostly as well as long lead training. I had initially tried a car one but was a cheap one and came apart when Hamish was being extremely rowdy. Thanks all for the suggestions. I will check them out.

Hi. Can anyone recommend a good harness for a dog with a deep chest but a skinny neck. Just got a Pet One Tough Dog which fit his chest but the neck is too big. Looking for recommendations before I try another one. ????

Has anyone had any printing done with Photbucket? Are they any good? They are having a sale on canvases and metal prints at the moment.

I was feeding it to the dogs for a while and they did really good on it. I only stopped as the super premium foods are just too expensive atm.

Oh ok. Thanks. That makes sense. Disappointed I hadn't read that before. Was getting a titre test and they asked me if I wanted it. I had said no as I hadn't last time and didn't think it was usually done. Plus it was $120 extra

I socialised Hamish heavily as a pup and he loves other dogs. I have another dog and most Airedale owners I know do too. If you are on Facebook maybe join the AireNet Australia group to learn more and chat with Airedale people. I don't know where in Qld you are but I know they have get togethers there now and again. It may be a good opportunity to meet some and see what you think.

hi Is Hepatits vaccine really necessary? I thought the main ones were distemper, parvo and canine cough? Is it very prevalent?

Hi, My dog is seven years. In the past six months or so he has started marking in the house. It is usually in the hallway but has done it in the kitchen twice and I caught him attempting to mark on a shirt I had just ironed. I "ah!"ed and he stopped. The problem is he usually does it when I am not around to see him, particularly in the morning when I am getting ready for work, despite the fact I let him out first thing. I clean it up with vinegar or wee away. I don't think it is anything health related as I had him checked out a year or two ago because he humps when he gets too excited then pees. Was told that he needs more stimulation. Have since been doing agility. Did obedience often but not so much now. (Doesn't do the humping much at all now) I Was just away for a month and the OH said he didn't think he did as much in that time. (This is also why I think it is more behavioural) But then he did it twice today. First thing in the morning and then tonight when we came back from the in laws for dinner (dogs came with us) Any ideas of what else I can do? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Started off with that yesterday but wasn't feeling 100% so didn't have the patience.. Will give it another go today.

Hi Hamish is crate trained. He is quite happy to go in a wire crate no problems. But I got him a soft crate and he won't go in it. I have tried putting food in there but he will only stick his head in, not go all the way in. I had tried putting his breakfast in there And he would only stick his head in it then the noise must have spooked him and be decided he didn't need the rest. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make it less scary. Thanks

Got some chunkers. Hamish seems to like them so that's good. Woah they smell extremely garlicky though I couldn't see it listed as an ingredient.
-
Intriguing. I think I can cope better with fish than red meat. . What did the pups think?
-
Thanks all! Have not heard of some of these so will have a look around. Have not noticed cheeee making my two gassy.
-
just curious as to what everyone uses for treats. Hamish seems more motivated with food than toys. I got a pack of natures goodness grain free treats which he really seems keen for but they are really hard. Has anyone tried heating them up to make them softer? A lot of people recommend cabanossi but that seems pretty messy. I normally use cheese but think meat have more drive.

Wow, I bet!

Oh hi yep, I was in ring 4 taking the leads and helping set up the courses. Wow must be a lot of work training and running eight dogs! Pretty sure I'd be terribly confused having six in one show!
-
Oh ok. I just thought it was dependant on how tall the dog is as to which it went in. There wasn't really any yesterday to compare him to size wise. I guess it kinda makes sense now. It's a long way off anyways! I'm near newcastle. Thanks.

That promising. Hamish is seven, eight at the end of the year and we have only just started agility and I think it will be a long road to get to trialling stage. He is pretty energetic, people are surprised at his age. I hope he counts as a 600. I'm not sure he could match border collies and kelpies for speed I saw my first trial yesterday. Wow some of those dogs are fast!
-
as above. Does it matter how old a dog is as to whether they can do agility or is it just up to and individuals health and energy?

Cool video. I saw a border collie back up a wall a couple of days ago. It is a pretty neat trick. Tried with the chair today. He started getting lazy and going around the back. Oh well baby steps.

Thanks all.!!!!!
