I used to feed Tilba Innova puppy then adult. It was always hard to get or just about out of date. The PP store told me to go to PGD their other store. I've since switched to Advance.

Where do you get a dremel from? I've heard of them on other forums.

I've read onions have a cumulitive effect. A little one off would be ok but a little often is when they have a problem. Other foods they should not have are chocolate, nuts, avocado. http://www.petalia.com.au/Templates/StoryT...fm?Story_No=257

My son brought home a pup back in 2000 Sooty, when she was only 5 weeks 5 days old. Can't really remember how much she weighed, about 3 kg. She did well at the time & I could see her growing every couple of days. She's now 30 kg. And I think she had all her puppy teeth. As someone said you don't want to grow her too fast. Being a large breed dog you want to grow her slowly to prevent bone & joint problems. Eating raw meaty bones will give her all the exercise she needs at this stage plus plenty of play with her brother. The next thing to read up on is the importance of socialisation. She & her brother will need to meet lots of different ppl, men & children in particular. Get them used to everything you can think of that they will come into contact with for the rest of their lives. Look into enrolling into a good positive puppy pre school. Check out www.dogstardaily.com You can download for free the book 'Before You Get Your Puppy' by Dr Ian Dunbar. It gives you the stages a puppy goes through & what they should be up to at each stage. There's also exerts from 'After You get Your Puppy'. You can watch videos on training methods plus whatever you wanted to know about puppy/dog training. And where's those pics.

I've had similar concerns with Tilba. She will pant at any time, not just after exercise. While it was hot she would pant, but when the temperature dropped she would still pant. I had the vet listen to her heart & she said it sounded fine. She's just been recently spayed & came through ok. I thought with all the monitoring & blood test if there was anything wrong they would have told me.

Start with a soft brush & light strokes with some food treats ready. Do a little every day & never hurt the dog. My cat hates being groomed & I can only get a few strokes in while she's sleeping. Tilba isn't fussed on being brushed/combed either. She doesn't mind too much her back & sides but go near her tail & she runs away.

I would try & work from home for the 1st month at least if that's an option. I got Tilba at almost 12 weeks old & she was well socialised & fitted in with our lifestyle & our other dog. I'm home all the time though & when I had to go out for an hour or 2 I put her in the crate until she got bigger & could fend for herself with the other dog. Good luck & keep us posted on what you finally decide, & lots of pics when she comes home.

Sooty, my son's dog had a couple of recurrent anal glan infections about 9 mths apart, which required antibiotic treatment. She would get a large lump on her anus which made her scoot & continually lick at. The vet suggested removing the one anal gland involved which we did. He explained about the possible incontinance but said she shouldn't have a problem if only one was removed. She recovered well with no problems. The op cost over $600.

You made a wise choice. A lab puppy would have not been a good choice for such living conditions. Please let us know if you get a house instead.

I've never competed in an obedience trial but have stewarded each year for my club for the past 15 yrs. If you already belong to a club that should be your starting point. Could you do this for your club?

Vet was pleased with her & she doesn't have to go back unless something else happens. I explained about her itching & he said nothing except that the original redness had eased a lot.

Update on Tilba- Beginning of day 3. When I looked at Tilba's wound this morning it looked a lot lumpier. I was deciding whether to call the vet to see if I needed to have it checked. Then oh said he had to go to work early. So I had another look& it didn't seem as bad as I 1st thought. But I did find 3 fleas. So I decided it was time to put Advantage on her. I took the e-collar off to put the Advantage on & while I was putting the tube in the bin she started licking the incision. So back on went the collar. After lunch I checked again & between 2 loops of the stitches it was weeping a small patch of light red blood. When my son came home from work I asked hi if I could use his car to take her to the vet if needed. I rang the vets & explained the situation & the nurse asked the vet & he said I could wait until our scheduled visit tomorrow. In the mean time she's been having like fits of wanting to scratch a terrible itch & can't quite reach. I've checked her out & can't find any more fleas although she does have a few scabs from their bites I'm guessing. Day 4. The incision has stopped weeping & there's dried blood along the line. The redness of the pustules has greatly reduced but she's still has the occasional fit of wanting to scratch. I've put some acv on the worst spots. Off to the vets soon & will report what he thinks.

You mean Victoria Stilwell? I'd take her over CM any day. Here's a link to a video with Dr Ian Dunbar talking about dog friendly dog training Ha ha ha! We were recently filling bean bags & I spilt about a cup full. They were everywhere, can't imagine the whole bag.

Well done. Tilba's the same, will only stand on a hand signal. If your using food as a lure make sure you have your hand just below the chin. If it's higher they think your doing a sit signal.

Your very lucky he tells you at such a young age that he wants to go outside. I agree with the others, get him a crate. Tilba is the 1st puppy I've used one with & there are lots of benefits as already stated.

I'll be watching Tilba like a hawk from now on. I did intend putting her in her crate but because she has to wear the Elizabethan collar because she wants to scratch or bite at the stitches its rather awkward & she has a rather bad rash which is also bothering her. I'm trying to keep her quiet but when she's awake she wants to wander around the house. Did take her outside last night on lead but this morning left it off for a while & keeping her away from our other dog.

Thanks HH & Ravyk. Socks, I think that was a quick idea through my mind at one stage. Even though she has the e-collar on she can still stand up & scratch at her belly. So may have to do that & hope she keeps them on. On another forum it was recommended to use an old t shirt, cut a hole for the tail & tie the ends so she can't get it off. I had her sleep next to my bed last night & had to take her out at 2, 5.30 & up at 8. Now its a matter of keeping her from walking around too much & resting. She has a bad razor rash where the pustules are & at times really worrying her so I give her tummy a scratch for her.

I've been dreading this but it had to be done eventually. I'd read how it was beneficial to let her mature & have a heat 1st. Which I did. She's now 14 mths old & had her heat last Nov. She was done today & I picked her up at 6 p.m. She's been so restless & will hardly lie down & rest. She keeps wandering around, crying & just stands. As of the past hour she's slept for about 20 mins & is unsettled again. She has to wear an elizabethan collar because she wouldn't leave the stitches alone. She hates it but I thinik she's become resigned to it. The only highlight of her day was when I gave her her dinner. I had planned putting her crate next to my bed but because I don't trust her with her stitches it's not real comfortable wearing the collar. On top of all of this, when I rang this afternoon to see how she was the vet said she had a problem with her skin. They found 9 fleas on her & pustules over her stomach & groin area. She didn't have fleas yesterday when I bathed her, there was no blood in the water from flea dirt. Although she was very itchy afterwards, more so than b4 her bath. So she's come home with a course of antibiotics. Any advice on how to cope with this awkward time would be much appreciated. The only thing they told me when I picked her up was to come in for a check up in 3 days & to be in touch if there was any weeping or swelling. I didn't have a look at her wound until we got home. I think she's been trying to scratch it & it looks a little red. I think she wants to settle but just can't. Look like we're in for a long night. I'm beginning to think I should have left her there over night except they told me there was only someone there until midnight. That meant 9 hours alone.

I've only ever given raw chicken wings, legs, thighs, frames & 1/4's. Have rarely seen turkey. Have also given lamb shanks & necks.
-
I'm glad I read this now. Tilba's going in tomorrow for her spay. I'll keep her more quiet now. I know how hard it can be when they want to act normal.
-
Wow, where do you get chicken livers for that price. I've only ever paid about $5 - $7 a kg. Raw meaty bones are good for the teeth & breath. Also may need the anal glands expressed. RMB will also harden the motions & naturally clear the anal glands.

I'm glad you're giving her a chance to learn some doggy things b4 you bring her home again.

Dogs & especially puppies don't need to be bathed that much. It's only the show dogs that would be if they go to shows every week or so. You will strip his coat of the natural oils & make his skin dry. By 11 weeks I would imagine the breeder would have bathed him b4 you got him at 8 weeks & he may or may not have needed another one now. I have a friend who has German Spitz dogs, who are similar to poms only bigger & she once told me that they rarely need bathing, only a good brush/combing 2-3 times a week. I find with my dogs, border collie, past & present that they get more of a doggy odour if I bathe them every 2 weeks in summer than the baths they get/got b4 & after winter. He's very cute btw.

In the 1st pic I can see chi, he has a slight domed head of the chi. Why was it necessary to hold him in position? If you're using food treats to lure into place there's no need to hold position. A good web site to learn all about puppies/training/bite inhibition is www.dogstardaily.com

I think the op has been scared off. If your still looking on here, I would love to know how you & your pup are faring.
