I agree. I don't know anything about ocd except what I've read in your thread. Whether it's hereditary (b4 any future matings with his parents) or caused through accident, but the breeder should know.

This sounds like a good idea to me. I know my nervousness travelled down the lead to my previous dog & even though I tried to not show it, the dog knew.

Thanks for the tips Kavik. She walks through a ladder, having trouble with walking backwards, she sits. I have seen TN's elephant vid. I guess it all boils down to practice, practice, practice.

How do I do that? I don't think she knows about her back legs. When she was stepping 1 back leg in the box as she was jumping over it, the next time she just jumped over it. Forgot to say woofenpup, I love the 2nd pic, so cute. :D

Does he have bones at all? I used to feed my dogs supercoat but took them off it because of the beet pulp. Their poos were very grainy looking too. When they have bones their poos are white & hard. If you try bones it might stop him from eating his poo.

As Stanley Coren says, yelling to a dog is the human barking back. Good advice macka.

It's a game you can play with your dog to encourage shaping and understanding of the clicker... You essentially click/mark anything that they do with the box (e.g. sniffing, jumping, mouthing, running around, pawing, nosing, etc). It gets them thinking and they start to become really clever at inventing different things to do! I've been trying shaping with Tilba. I wanted her to get in a box. She won't go any further than 2 legs in the box. She's jumped over a couple of times & accidentally put 1 bag leg in as she was stepping out. I'll try with anything she does & see if I can get her to do other things. She seems to get 'stuck' & keep repeating the same thing. When I delay the click to try & get her to do something else she gets bored & goes away. :D

This is not a good idea because he will begin to see it as his alone & may guard his food bowl. We teach beginner members at my dog club to stay with their dogs at least 2-3 times a week while they eat. You are not going to take the food away, but have something more desirable like roast chicken to drop into the bowl while he's eating. I pat & can even groom my dog while she's eating & she doesn't mind a bit.

Have you been replacing the grass regularly? What breeds are your dogs?

April my previous bc did it all her life. I had never seen a dog do it like that b4. As you say a real pain at pick up time. My son's dog stands still, & my 'new' border didn't do it at 1st but will occasionally do it now.

Yes, the only thing I can think of is to go back to basics, don't let her have access to the carpeted areas, only lino or tiles. Take her outside every couple of hours. When she goes outside praise & treat. Don't give her the opportunity to go inside.

Also if you have a cat you have to be very careful as it can kill a cat if it grooms the dog b4 it dries, & it takes forever to dry.

I have had a border collie since 1993, on my 2nd one now. I always gave April, the 1st one heartguard when it 1st came out. Back then there was no mention that ivermectin could cause problems in collies. It wasn't until about 2003 that I learned at a pet expo that it could be a problem when I went to buy heart-worm tablets from one of the exhibitors & she asked my what breed of dog I had, when I told her she said it was not recommended for collies so I started to use Proheart tablets instead which I used until her death. When I got Tilba I was given a sample pack of Heartguard plus from the breeder & at the time my vet said she didn't think it would be a problem if she didn't have a reaction from the 1st dose she had had b4 I got her. So I used it for the next few months. When I went to get some Prohart tablets I had read on another forum that it wasn't recommended either for collies as it's ingredient is related to ivermectin which I didn't know when I used to give it to April. They recommended to use either Interceptor or Sentinel for collies (may have been the bc sub forum?) . So I used Interceptor over the winter months & have given her one Sentinel tab this month because it also treats fleas. So I will soon see how this goes. On another forum a couple of years ago, there was a big thread about the use of Prohart 6 injection & how dangerous it was. I had to google it to know what it was. In the US they were using 6 mthly injections for heart-worm prevention. Fort Dodge eventually recalled Proheart6 & recently it's been allowed back with restrictions. The google search also had a link to the dol thread on Proheart injections. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=6475 There are 8 pages to wade through & some of the links no longer work but worth the read. http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2008/06/05...80311212687545/ And all this for a 6 mth injection where here in Aus we have the 12 mth injection which would be twice as strong.

One Year Vaccination And Check-up
luvsdogs replied to poodle proud's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If she had her last baby shot at the same vet they usually send a reminder close to the 12 mths since. Don't be surprised if you still do. I've had reminders a week after they've already had them & when I query them they say that the computer just spits out the reminders when they are due. -
Me either. I have been reading this thread this morning & now I can hardly type through my tears. :D Jordy was a beautiful boy. RIP & run free.

My young dog does these things too. Haven't' given her her own digging pit yet even though I've known about it for years. She also sometimes eats poo. Don't know if it's hers or our other dogs. I have heard if you give them pineapple it it gives it a nasty taste they don't like. I have given her some in recent days but as I don't see her eating poo, my son's inform me of this trait, I don't know if it's working.

That's the one I found but still really none the wiser.

Trying To Teach Pete To Bow
luvsdogs replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tilba bows all the time & keeps the pose for 10-20 secs. I had tried to teach her to do it by luring for a drop & pulling lure forward b4 she went right down. This hardly ever worked & she got confused. I have a book & vid with a few tricks & used their method. And it worked. Have dog standing facing you. With a treat in your hand press your hand gently from the dog's nose towards his back feet. The instant his elbows touch the floor treat. He may either sit or drop completely so it's important to click/treat the split sec his elbows touch the floor. As he gets better at it you can keep him in position longer b4 the click. Of course if you haven't taught your dog clicker training you can do it the same way but release the treat instead of click. -
I Know It's Been Asked Before...
luvsdogs replied to Kelly_Louise's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There are many reasons why they eat their own poo. Being, lack of nutrients, habit forming & they like it, the old starvation thing in the wild - renewable resource. I have heard on other forums that if you put pineapple in their food they won't eat it because it gives the poo a nasty taste. Don't know if that works or not. -

I prefer this method. They shouldn't feel threatened by each other or you while eating.

Is There A Chart/guide For Feeding Raw?
luvsdogs replied to my_sibe_owns_me's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There's also www.rawmeatybones.com I think there are lists of what to feed. -
I wouldn't give my dog's the injection not matter how old. It's been banned in the US & they only used the prohart 6 mth. I believe they get a massive dose of the stuff which wanes over the months. I would give the dose appropriate for the size. When she grows you could give 2 tabs of the red if you have any left.

World Dog Games Coming To Tv
luvsdogs replied to jinkispirit's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have been waiting to find out about this as I was very disappointed I couldn't attend. I had heard originally that it would be televised over the summer, sounds like it will be a one off.
