There's a tick sticky in the Health etc forum that may help, it mostly deals with paralysis ticks, is that the kind you have? http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=121109

Have enjoyed all the photos. You are all such a talented lot.

Great shots Nik, as always. I had intended on going have a look on Saturday after the border collie judging but just couldn't get across because of the rain. How were the other 2 days?
-
I think it would have been determined from what age he was neutered, from your other thread. At what age did you eventually have him done?

I saw your photo one our breeders FB page (i'm not a stalker... I swear).I am also getting my little girl from there, her name is Rumour. You probably would have met her at the visit day. I couldn't go had flyball on Good luck today. Where are you getting your puppy from?

Very cute as all border puppies are. It's very exciting times getting a new puppy. My border Tilba was called Stella by her breeder but I changed it. You''ll have to join us in the border collie forum.

I'm 27 so was part of that same period of school that you would have been where we weren't taught any grammar (I think it was about 10 years worth). Grammar is a huge part of the curriculum these days and as a teacher I find it so hard to teach grammar to my Year 4 class because I was never taught it myself. I have actually had to ask the kids the answer multiple times because they understand it better than I do. When I was training to become a teacher I was really struggling to get my head around what on earth a clause was. In the end, my supervising teacher grabbed a bright year 6 child, told her that we were testing her knowledge and asked her to explain just what the different clauses were. She managed to put it into a simpler language than the grammar books use and I have remembered it ever since. My 2 oldest sons are 31 & 33 & when they were in high school I went to a parent teacher meeting & asked the English teacher about grammar. She quickly replied, "We don't teach grammar". That was apparent at the time when on the train you'd hear even students from private schools using terrible grammar. My pet peeves are people, especially TV presenters saying things like "have a good weekKend", don't they know it should sound like 2 words with only one K in the middle. Anythink instead of anything. Me & ? instead of ? & I. Also singers running words together as in our National Anthum. Lettus rejoice instead of Let Us rejoice. Getchu instead of Get You.

Such a terrible tragedy for the whole family. Poor little Odie & your kids. Thinking of you all.

Poor Emma Is At The Emergency Vet
luvsdogs replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
Glad to hear Emma is on the improve. Getting old is no fun for them or us. April my 1st BC was almost 15 when she passed. The last 6 mths were not easy. She had been deaf for quite some time, her eyesight was failing & she had dementia which was the hardest & saddest to deal with of them all. I had lost my best friend. -
I've never done one, so you have to register & pay, not just rock up on the day?

Massed Dog Obedience... Off-road Style
luvsdogs replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My friend who went to rally-o with me a couple of years ago was in it too. I was thinking about you all. Well done. -
I hope you get the right specialists to help you. Please keep us posted on the results of his consultations. I had a small problem with my oldest son in comparison to your son. I used to take him to the baby health clinic's paed once a month. Maybe they can give you some advice on who to contact.

Some Questions Before Getting A Puppy (in The Distant Future)
luvsdogs replied to JB1824's topic in Puppy Chat
This confuses me a bit, because I was looking at the Labrador Retriever thread under Dog Breeds 101 as Persephone suggested, and a number of posters said 30 minutes was a good amount! Either way, I would definitely want to aim for 30-60 minutes + play time/obedience training. Maybe my parents can take it for a walk during the day, and I can take it again in the evening... Large breed puppies should be grown slowly & not over exercised until they reach maturity to protect their growing bones & joints. Also mental stimulation is just as important, if not more so, as physical exercise. I think the main reasons were because of their good, friendly temperament and intelligence and how their eager to please. And our neighbours have/had labradors which were very well behaved! My brother and I also prefer bigger dogs. Like all breeds of dogs they need lots of socialisation & training to achieve these goals. -
Some Questions Before Getting A Puppy (in The Distant Future)
luvsdogs replied to JB1824's topic in Puppy Chat
My question too is, why a labrador. I personally would never have one, too strong a dog for me as I'm getting older & I prefer long haired dogs. Short coated dogs shed a real lot, while the long haired dogs shed in tumble weeds, easy to vaccuum or pick up. I only notice dirty floors from the dogs coming inside during times of rain when they carry in mud from the holes they've dug. My dogs are inside/outside dogs. As someone already said they are easy to train if they are with you inside, getting in some short training sessions throughout the day you're home with them. I highly recommend you read these 2 books, before & after you get your puppy. http://www.dogstardaily.com/free-downloads Also have you done one of those on line "pick a breed'' that's right for you? http://www.petnet.com.au/selectapet/choose-a-pet -
Herding At Erskine Park Hosted By Dogsnsw
luvsdogs replied to Toujour's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I suggest you contact Sue Fedoryschyn to find out. She has been at training each time I've been there either instructing or training at EP on Saturdays. http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/activities-a-eve.../committee.html -
I have taken Tilba to 4 herding training days. She has the instinct for it & 3 of the 4 instructors we've had have said she would get her herding instinct test easily. I have had 4 different takes on what I should be doing & it is hard to do. At least the instructor we had on Sat asked me what we were up to & when I said each other instructor had said different things he said that could be a good thing. On Saturday the instructor got his dog to put the sheep in the middle of the paddock as Tilba seems to keep them on the fence line. Well, the sheep didn't stay in the centre for long. I had to decide on what commands I was going to use & say them over & over each time she changed direction. Most of the time she was going anti-clockwise around the sheep. If one sheep broke away from the group Tilba would go after it & bring it back to the group, but the instructor said to get her to bring the group to the single sheep. It ended up with the sheep scattered in all directions. With someone who knows what they are doing I'm sure Tilba would be a good sheep dog.

Is that at the Royal on Easter Fri, Sat & Sun? I was just looking up which days I'll be going, as a spectator of course. I'm going on the Sat to watch the border collies so will be over when there's spare time.

Just too cute in his jacket. Paptacular, do you have some more photos of the rest of the litter?

Congrats on such a cute little puppy. I'm rather jealous as they are one of my fave breeds.

Other Ways To Transport Puppy Home By Car Other Then A Crate?
luvsdogs replied to Nadine83's topic in Puppy Chat
I had a cardboard box to bring April home in. Before we'd even left the breeders she was climbing out, so I had her on my lap. Was the longest 40-50 minute car trip ever, she wriggled the whole way. Forward 15 yrs & we brought Tilba home, a 6 hr trip, in a crate. She slept the whole way except for a couple of stops. Depends on what sort of car you have, we only have a Corolla hatchback. The crate fitted in well with our luggage, as we made a holiday of it with the split seat down flat. -
Want. My favourite.

Yard Dog Trials At The 2011 Goulburn Show
luvsdogs replied to koalathebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's about spot on bedazzled2. -
We have an English Springer Sp start at our obedience club. She looks like a chocolate & white border collie. A very pretty dog. Names - Ivy, Raleigh means Field of Birds, Phoebe, Shelby.
-
I have the same problem with my border collie. I've been told it could be displacement & I'm not a very exciting person. There's also a lot of duck poo on the grounds we train on so a lot of the time she self rewards. I agree with the other suggestions given.

Yard Dog Trials At The 2011 Goulburn Show
luvsdogs replied to koalathebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Wonderful photos KB, so clear for action shots. What camera did you use & what settings? I've taken Tilba to sheep herding lessons twice & no family member would come with me to take photos to record a major milestone in her life.
