  1. Congrats CleoJ for your title. I saw you in person, but what happened to the video? so I can relive it. I was supposed to compete, told the organisers I would but due to several circumstances I missed the cut off date & haven't practiced since. There's only 3 more comps left this year, 1 in Nov at St Ives & a double in Dec at EP. Luvsdogs, can you not see it either? Its still playing happily for me, but I can PM you a link directly if you still want to see it? That would be great, all I can see is a large black rectangle where the vid pic should be.
  2. I think it's only chipping that is mandatory. They can be sold as young as you like and unvaccinated. ETA: I would be very happy to be corrected on that one. I haven't read up on the legislation for a while I thought it was the law for many years that it is illegal to sell a puppy before 8 weeks old in a pet shop. This is from DogsNSW website re: pure bred dogs 6. A Member shall not sell or otherwise transfer from that Member's care any puppy under eight (8) weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination which must be given at six (6) weeks of age, and for the necessary ten (10) to fourteen (14) days for the vaccine to take effect. Given away is another matter. My son was given his pup at 5 weeks 5 days old back in 2000.

  4. Sounds reasonable to me. I was charged about $110 for the kennel cough vac in March 11 at my vet which included consult. Did yours include consult or just vac? I thought this was steep considering when she had the original 3 yr vac it was about $117 all up. I had to use an Eliz collar on my border collie when she was spayed because she wouldn't leave the stitch/incision alone.
  5. Glad to hear you found a solution. Now we need pics of your 2 new pups.
  6. Just discovered this thread. I picked up my little Japanese Spitz puppy, Panda, 3 weeks ago. He was so tiny, 1.2 kg at his 1st vet visit. It's only just in the last few days that I've noticed him getting bigger, a whole 1.5kg. 3rd day at home. Thurs night tormenting my border collie.
  7. JulesP, so sorry to hear of Amber's illness. It's hard enough to face the possibility of loosing an old dog. It's just not fair when they're so young.
  8. I have a 10 week old today Japanese Spitz. He was given C4 for his 1st vac at 6 weeks 5 days old. My vet wanted to give him his 2nd vac this week saying that they can be re-vac as early as 3 weeks from the previous vac. He's had a bout of diarrhea & I didn't want to do him until he was better. I was going to take him today but after counting out the weeks, 3 weeks 2 days, I decided to wait until at least 4 weeks. What schedule do your vets follow with puppy vacs & what do they use? When I got my border collie at nearly 12 weeks, she had already had 2 vacs with the breeder & when I went to my vet for the 3rd vac they gave her C7. It's all so confusing & I want to do the right thing for the little fella. My vet is always willing to explain things to me with great long explanations as to why she does & use these things.
  9. We picked up our Japanese Spitz puppy 9 days ago. His name is Panda. He is such a little character. Has the cutest little bark & winge. I know, not going to encourage it.
  10. You could also contact Kersti Seksel a veterinary behaviourist at Seaforth. http://www.sabs.com.au/index.htm Please let us know how you get on.
  11. Dogs are designed to eat ripe meat, so no problems.
  12. She said on her last visit that she'd never do a sports dog before the age of 14 months. Early Spay-Neuter Considerations for the Canine Athlete by Chris Zinc Yep, that's what she was talking about. PF - was the last visit you are talking of the one in June? I didn't see her speak, but the feedback I got was that her preference was not to desex at all, but definitely prior to 14 months. I first read that paper well before getting Tilba. It was enough for me, she was spayed at 14 mths after having her heat at 10 mths. She is now 3 1/2 yrs old. My son's 30 kg cross breed dog grew higher in the rear than she did at the shoulders & was spayed at 6 mths, while my 1st border collie was also done at 6 mths & had a lovely straight top line.
  13. Hi, It just been reported on ABC News the dog is to be put down I just heard that too on 10 news. Said cats, pigs, guinea pigs can get it too.
  14. Congratulations on your new pup. What breed, m/f? We expect plenty of pics. Positive training all the way. As stated you can use "yes" instead of the clicker but make sure you charge the word 1st as you would with the clicker. http://www.clickertraining.com/puppy If you haven't discovered kikopup on youtube yet, there are some great videos there. http://www.youtube.com/user/kikopup#p/u
  15. This time Jean Donaldson using the gentle leader with a reactive dog.
  16. Here's a good video with Jean Donaldson fitting a gentle leader. I prefer a black dog head collar. If you don't want the dog to try & shake off the head collar & jar it's neck you can use a double ended lead. You do need to be co-ordinated though to manage them.
  17. I buy whichever one I can find in plain yoghurt. Sometimes it low-fat, skim, sometimes not. It depends on the use by date. I sometimes get Greek natural yoghurt. There are so many yoghurts available now days it's hard to find the unflavoured ones.
  18. Border Collies of course. Also corgies, boxers, labs, Cavaliers.
  19. I would suggest you read Dr Ian Dunbar's books Before & After you get your puppy. Both are available as a free download. http://www.dogstardaily.com/free-downloads There are lots of other links on the site to look at plus videos & i-woofs radio programs to listen to. There's also a good article on bite inhibition. I would not desex a large breed dog until it was mature to give it's joints & bones time to grow properly. There are threads on dol that give links to the reasons for & against.
  20. Such funny stories. April my 1st border collie used to open the bathroom door if she was in there with me, using the rubber stopper on the back of the door. Tilba has taught herself to open the back screen door by standing on her hind legs & pulling down on the handle. I had a 2nd hand baby gate when she was a pup. It only stopped her for a few weeks until she learned if she pushed on it with force it would open, so I ended up tying it. Bit of a nuisance though. All those stories of dogs & their toys reminded me of a youtube vid I once saw of a doberman in the US that would gather all his/her soft toys & put them in groups of colour, size, shape etc. Tried to find the link but it seems to have disappeared.
  21. Ditto, what breed is it? To me a deposit would be between $100 - $200.
  22. To me she looks like a GSD should look like & did while growing up watching Rin Tin Tin every afternoon after school in the early 60's. In fact she reminds me of one of the dogs they used in the show. I have no real knowledge of the breed & my opinion of why they changed the look of the dog was from my earliest recollections of going to dog shows & photos is that they were stacked in that position with their legs pulled out the back. It's a real shame that they look like that now all the time, not to mention their wobbly gait. My son wanted to get a GSD pup in 1993 & even then when looking at litters I don't remember them with sloping backs. Someone mentioned the changes in the pug's nose or lack there of. The same thing has been done to the persian cat. I had a pedigree persian when my boys were young & he had a regular nose. The persian cat of today hardly has a nose & always looks angry.
  23. That's what I was waiting for. Does it say anywhere how often & how many shots were taken?
