Still waiting for videos, or youtube links? I would love to see some of the SA routines. -
Thanks for all your replies. At least I know it's a photobucket problem. Will just have to try again later & see what happens.

luvsdogs replied to Lollipup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I knew she was coming but didn't hear any details so missed out. Would love her to come to Sydney. -
I was trying to edit one of my photos on dol, making it smaller. I went to photobucket & did what I always do but every time I copy it to dol it's always the larger size. What's going on. I have never been able to use the dol thingy for putting up photos.

Dancing With Dogs Freestyle & Heelwork To Music
luvsdogs replied to kallistar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Can't wait to see the segment tonight. We were pre-warned that it was going to be on, on the k9freestyle yahoo group. Some of the more traditional trialers at my obedience club think things like this are a waste of time & why would you do it. grrr That was great, now I'm more enthused to train than ever before. :) -

Thanks ness & BC4ME, I do remember that music, just didn't know what it was called. We've been told in workshops that you need a faster piece of music for beginner dogs, it would suit me at that pace but Panda can be a little speed demon. Can't wait to see the segment tonight. Welcome to the wonderful world of Border Collies. They are the best dogs. I have to say Heston is gorgeous. Have a look at this site. Scroll down the whole page & the red print will take you to the links you need. http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/puppys-first-week-home-8-9-weeks You can download Before You Get Your Puppy for free & you used to also be able to download After You Get Your Puppy. Haven't been there for a while so not sure. Go to the Training Textbook & the drop down menus will give you lots of info.

This from Wolf Park. http://www.wolfpark.org/aboutwolves.shtml#eat I used to make Billinghurst's diet for my Border Collie. I soon got sick of spending hours making the veggie mix (before he started making his Barf patties) & she didn't like it unless I added something else with it. In his puppy book he says that raw bones are the perfect source of calcium & phosphorus for puppies in the correct ratio. In 2000 my son brought home a small puppy & we started her on the Billinghurst diet but when we took her to the vet & told her what she was eating we were told, because she was so thin, that if an RSPCA inspector came past our house & saw her we would be reported. Also that she needed kibble to get the calcium she needed. She was put on kibble & now 12 yrs later she's still a thin dog, it's in her make up. I later bought Tom Lonsdale's books & he advocates raw meaty bones & good quality table scraps. I recently joined a raw feeding group & they advocate a prey model diet which is 80% meat, 10% offal & 10% raw bones. I now have a 1 y/o Japanese Spitz dog with terribly brown teeth & am mostly feeding him the Lonsdale diet of RMB. Myths about feeding RMB http://rawfed.com/myths/bones.html

Inside Dogs And Geographical Location
luvsdogs replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have found the same thing. I even gave a link by Kersti Seksel once & they still were't convinced. http://abrionline.org/abri-podcast.php behaviour talk 27 about 15 mins 15 secs in where she talks about the differences of keeping dogs & cats in the US vs Aust. My dogs have evolved, from a child when our dogs lived outside & only came inside for short periods before bedtime, & the same with the 1st 2 dogs I had when married to now having them all live inside but mostly outside in the daytime. At my obedience club we still find about 1/2 the new membership won't allow their dogs inside even though we recommend they be inside from a training point of view. -

Thanks BC4ME, do you have a link so I can hear Dance of the Miriltons from the Nutcracker. I had a bit of a search but couldn't find it. Anyone else have any suggestions? -
I am so sorry to hear of Bailey's passing. RIP little man. I can barely see what I have been reading this morning, it too has made me mad that in this day & age these diseases are so easily prevented. When I got my 1st Border Collie back in 1993 I knew nothing of inheritable diseases but was made aware of CL. When looking for my 2nd BC 4 1/2 years ago I made sure I found a breeder that had tested for the 3 diseases I'd found out affected BCs. Owey, I hope you find another Border puppy from tested parents when you are all ready, they are wonderful dogs.

Thundershirt For Dogs With Fear/anxiety Etc
luvsdogs replied to helen's topic in General Dog Discussion
I bought one for my JS because he get anxious in the car & drools. I've also used DAP spray & given him calming drops. A mix of all 3 or separately hasn't worked. -
Over-furmination - What Else Is Good For Undercoat?
luvsdogs replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I bought a smaller headed rake with the same tynes as the rake shown. I feel like a fairy floss maker when I use it  on my JS & BC. The undercoat flies in the air & wraps around my arm. Very effective. -
Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea
luvsdogs replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
My JS had the runs when we 1st got him. I contacted his breeder & she told me he had had the runs b4 getting him & it cleared up with scourban, & was surprised my vet didn't tell me to use scourban. When I did ask my vet about it she said not to use it as it only causes dehydration. I had to put him on a diet of boiled chicken & rice for a few days & it cleared up. -
I could only see Eye Clear & Glow Groom, which one do you use?
-
I've joined a yahoo rawfeeding group & they recommend feeding 80% raw meat, 10% edible bone, no load bearing bones, & 10% offal. To make the dogs rip & tear into the meat it should be in large chunks bigger than the dog's head. It sounds like an expensive way to feed when I previously thought the raw meaty bone diet was best.

I opened a new bag of BH over a week ago. I noticed it wasn't as dark as the previous bag, but the dog's poos are mostly solid. We get the odd soft poop from one or other of the dogs but that's always been normal.

Which one did you use Grace - the natural version? Sam - I am interested that you tried tomato paste. I have heard that tomato pomace - sometimes an ingredient in dry food - actually causes tear staining so am surprised that tomato paste could help alleviate it. My Japanese Spitz suffers with eye stain. He had his tear ducts flushed at 8 mths when desexed & the vet told me his tear ducts were very small/narrow. She told me to just wipe them with a dampened cotton ball a couple of times a da but as I'd bought tear stain remover, that's what I use every other day but it doesn't really help. I had heard previously about how good angeleyes was but am reluctant to use it because I'd heard about it being an anti-biotic. So the natural one available here in Australia doesn't have anti-biotics in it? Where is it available?

I was so hoping he would stay well until you got the test result and it is frustrating that this is happening in the middle of the testing being moved. Hopefully you will get a result soon so you know where you are at. Sadly the re-occurence is again so typical of TNS. I emailed the University and hopefully the results will be available by the end of the week. The 1st stage of testing is complete and they are working through the 2nd stage now. In reality though, it isn't going to change much, we are just going to know that his days are numbered. At the moment he seems to be rather miserable, and it is sooo hard to see him like this. If he hasn't improved by tomorrow, we will have to look at having him PTS. A wise decision I think, even if it is a heartbreaking one but it would be easier to make that decision if you had a definitive answer. Whatever is wrong, it is clearly something very serious and no puppy owner should be put through a nightmare like this at a time that should be so happy. I am so saddened to hear of Bailey's relapse. It's just not fair for such a beautiful little fellow to have to go through this, all because of some BYB who doesn't test for the know BC diseases before breeding. I hope you get the test results back before you have to make that terrible decision. Thinking of you & your family.
