Tips On Feeding A New Labrador Puppy
luvsdogs replied to katied86's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Cobgrats on you soon to be new addition. Good advise given but one important point especially with large breed pups is to grow them slowly to avoid problems with bone growth & joints in the future. Can't wait to see pics of your new guy too. -

Dancing With Dogs Freestyle & Heelwork To Music

Sydney comp this Sunday. Due to ill health looks like I'll miss going to see it. Haven't missed anything to do with DWD since going to my 1st comp a few years ago. -
A couple of years ago there was a "working dog" series of stamps. Had an ACD with cattle, a BC with sheep, a GSD police dog, a guide dog lab, and an AQIS beagle...I remember because someone bought them for me and I still have them stuck to the side of my photo board in my room  But I do think these doggies are very cute :) I still have the set of working dogs with a few extra BC ones even though it wasn't a really good example of a border collie.

2nd and 3rd April Thanks...I just had a crazy thought. I havn't been to the Royal for at least 25 years & thinking its probably about time for a visit. Only to watch though :) I've been every year since it opened at Homebush & go 3-4 times each year. I always watch the agility but only once on the main day, not enough stamina to do 2 days running. Unfortunately due to illness I won't be able to go this year. Am so going to miss it because it's a great days entertainment.

Tilba sleeps in her own 'room' in her bed & Panda sleeps in his open crate in the loungeroom.

I Shouldn't Feed Turkey To My Dogs
luvsdogs replied to sheena's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My 2 have been having turkey wings with skin on occasionally for months. No problems though I do cut off the connecting skin between the 2 bones & along the feather edge. I haven't noticed any probs with the wing bones even with my 5.4kg JS. The couple of times I given him a small turkey leg he's left the bone end which seems like a lamb shank bone. I have heard many times never to feed chicken necks because of a choking hazard. Are turkey necks ok because they are larger? -
Daisy is gorgeous, love the pic sleeping in/out of the kennel. My border sleeps like that a lot.

That's 'cause they're soooooooooooooo rare (mr rolleyes where are you!!!) Reminds me of a thread last year of a young family I think paid $2,500 for a rare blue staffy from QLD. They were in Adelaide. The pup had a bad skin complaint & the husband wanted the pup sent back to the breeder (they had bought her to breed from). The thread went on for pages & pages & must have been deleted because I couldn't find it again. At the time I went on DOL staffy puppy adds & as someone had posted most of the litters were the "rare"blue. The limited register papers in NSW are orange & the main blue. my 3 registered dogs came in the breeders name & I had to register in my name with DogsNSW.

OMG!!! HE IS JUST TOO ADORABLE! And what a smart boy he already is. That was exactly the same for my girl Yoness when she first came. She cried when she wanted to potty and instantly did her business when we took her outside on the grass. Now it seems like we are going backwards with toilet training as she will still cry to let her out for her number 2s but she started give us no clue when she wants to pee and make puddles inside . Thank god for timber floors... Glad to hear that he settled in so well. He's a very pretty pup, nice even markings. Just one comment about his nose. When he goes for his 1st vet check-up ask your vet what sunscreen you can put on it. I hope it continues to colour up. When I got my 1st border collie in 1993 I heard about collie nose & at the time thought it was in relation to the pink skin above the nose pad. When she was about 2 years old she developed a sore that wouldn't heel. After taking her to 2 vets & 3 months later with the help of some ointment it finally healed. When she was a baby she had a small freckle the size of a flea on her pink skin. Over the years it joined up with the rest of her nose pad. In the mean time I used to put zinc cream on her pink bits to protect it from the sun.

Do I Have A Teenager On My Hands Already?
luvsdogs replied to Stewie_the_Frenchie's topic in Puppy Chat
Check this out, there are links to other adolescent problems. http://www.dogstardaily.com/training/ch-4-adolescent-dog-training-18-weeks-2-years My JS started cocking his leg around 6-7 months. Didn't hump though. I caught him twice while in the bathroom & oh & son said he did it often while they were in the garage. I had him desexed at 8 mths & he never marked in the house from that day on. -
Border Collie Puppies Found - Hervey Bay Qld
luvsdogs replied to bordacollies4me's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gorgeous puppies, I hope they find their homes soon. I have a cat that was dumped as a kitten at about 3 weeks old. I used to lament often how could anyone dump such a beautiful baby. -

I posted in the BC thread re missing Remy's photo. Just saw the one you posted here & he's absolutely gorgeous. I didn't get Tilba til she was 11w/5days old & started puppy pre-school 5 days later. She was on the breeders short list to be kept for show. She had gone overseas to Crufts & couldn't make the final decision until she got back. I feel I got the better looking dog but the other one was sold off as well. There's lots you can do in the mean time like carrying her to lots of places & visiting friends with puppy friendly dogs. Two good websites are http://www.dogstardaily.com/free-downloads Also look at the menu bar for other topics. There are many tutorials here from Kikopup on all manner of training tips.

You don't say what breed Harry is. As long as he does well on the RC as sheena said make sure he has plenty of water. I would also add in raw meaty bones, but be wary of chicken necks if he's a med to large breed. My dogs have raw chicken legs, turkey wings or small legs & chunks of beef. When I had them on a kibble diet I used to add alternate nights sardines in oil, raw eggs, 1/4 cup Nature's Gift canned food & a raw chicken wing/leg/trimmed lamb flaps a few times a week.

Requirements Of Obedience Trials?
luvsdogs replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
All of the above & as far as training goes your dog needs to be able to walk on as loose lead & have a good recall. -
I've taken both my pups to Wagschool. The 1st time was at Animal Tracks Vets at Homebush. The 2nd time was at a vets at Rhodes. Both classes are run by the same Delta instructors.

For Those Who Feed A Dog A Natural Diet ?
luvsdogs replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, but as the question says - what do YOU eat  Like some others have said, crap. OH & 1 son are shift workers so eat at work. That leaves youngest son who cooks a couple of times a week which are mostly stir frys. When I'm on my own it's what ever I can be bothered getting. :D -
For Those Who Feed A Dog A Natural Diet ?
luvsdogs replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs now have a raw meaty bone diet. Mostly chicken legs, turkey wings or small legs if I can get them. They occasionally they have beef chunks or pork. They should also have offal & liver but they don't like it & the JS gets a runny bottom when something nww is introduced. Veggies & grains/pasta are not needed. They also get the occasional raw egg. -
You are well prepared. When we got our Japanese Spitz we only had 1 days notice, not expecting to get a puppy so soon. Did have 2 other dogs at the time but house not at all puppy proofed. He slept in his crate in the same room with my Bc for the 1st 6 months & after being desexed at 8 mths I set up puppy pen with open crate in the loungeroom. He was happy with that arrangement, loves his crate & as of post Christmas we have dispensed with pen & he still spends all night in his crate. Congratulations on your future family member & we are all waiting for lots of pics. ETA He was a reasonalbly good puppy not choosing to chew up things left around the house like shoes & cords. He preferred tissues & a corner of one bed & the bottom of another. A vet bed put an end to that. Old towels & sheets folded are a good bedding option until they stop chewing things up.

She's adorable. She'll soon settle & become used to her new routine.
