  1. I used to feed my Border Collie Advance for a no. of years. I used to get the adult chicken & rice variety & a couple of times by mistake I got the large breed packet. If you're after a large sized kibble that would be it. They are huuuuge.
  2. I heard years back, probably when I 1st got April that puppies get protection from their mothers up until 6 mths provided she has been on HW prevention. I gave her Heartguard for years before I heard that collies shouldn't have ivermectin. So I switched her over to Proheart. She never had a problem with either. After she died & I was researching meds for Tilba I found out that the active ingredient in proheart was ivermectin, by another name. Now have my dogs on Interceptor Spectrum.
  3. Such cute puppies cassie & smashtank. But wow how big is Sumo. I'm so glad in my dotage that I've gone to a smaller breed. I do have all 5 Beethoven dvd's though. :D
  4. Has anyone had a meeting with their local members re their concerns about all of this? and if so what was the outcome. And no I haven't.
  5. You said you are teaching your cocker lots of tricks. Have you thought about doing Dances with Dogs? :)
  6. My thoughts exactly. So much easier to vacuum up tumbleweeds than a covering of short hairs. My son's dog, now gone to the rainbow bridge, had a short stiff coat. It's so much better to be able to pat a soft long haired dog, running your hands up & down the coat. With Sooty you could only pat with the hair growth, it was impossible to pat the other way. She never stopped shedding, you just couldn't get rid of the loose hair. She was a funny, goofy & beautiful dog to live with though & we all miss her heaps.
  7. My oh had a mixed breed dog when I met him. She was 1/4 poodle, 1/4 doxie & 1/2 something that looked like a long, low beagle. Her parents were my in-laws dogs. The mother a cross of the 1st 2 was never groomed that I saw & always had dread locks. Oh's dog had a few but not as bad as her mother. It was a job to get her coat in order when she came to live with us. She was an outside dog, only came inside occasionally. This was back in the mid 70's For my next dog I said we'd get a short haired dog, which we did. Never again, he left hair everywhere. I was forever sweeping. Like someone else said the hair would collect in cobwebs, branches etc. So much prefer long haired dogs. The border collie is an easy groom except in moulting season. The 2 I've had, had been different. April was the easiest & Tilba gets dread locks in her hips & thighs during a moult. The JS is another matter.
  8. Yeah, I did. Was surprised when I saw it here. Oooops.
  9. Koda is a real cutie, so evenly marked, not that that matters. I think the 1st Aussie I ever saw was a black tri. I thought it was a Border Collie without a tail. :D Hadn't heard of them at that time. ETA: His uncle looks a real sweetie.
  10. to DOL & congratulations kuuki on your new puppy. Pictures of him are a must.
  11. That happened to me a couple of times, you just have to persevere.
  12. That is a wonderful tribute to a wonderful dog. RIP beautiful Piper.
  13. Pretty sturdy. I joined it together with cable ties because the springs that come with it roll down to the bottom. I use dog lead clips for the open side. For a time I was using them to keep the dogs down the back yard but my Border Collie kept jumping over it. They've gone up slightly, I paid about $25.
  14. [quote Melina Bea, on 09 May 2013 - 05:15 PM, said: I'm so glad I'm not dealing with cats as well! Our biggest concern is cables. We are very technology-minded. We have every device you can think of, and are used to being able to charge each one on a whim, in every room of the house (even the bathroom!) So we are basically drowning in cables. Hoping someone at Bunnings can advise us. quote] As recommended on DOL I bought 2 Bunnings wire compost pens for Panda when he was a puppy. He slept in it in his bed/crate until he was a year old. I used one inside & put 2 together for out in the yard. 2 pens joined together One pen for inside He was kept in his pen while inside if we couldn't watch him. When I was sure he wasn't going to get into things I took the pen away & now he sleeps in his open crate at night & whenever he likes through the day. I never puppy proofed the house for him & he was pretty good not touching stuff.
  15. I've always thought there should be adds on TV during children's programmes showing them how to approach a dog, only after asking of course, instead of all those junk food adds.
  16. Thanks for the info dancinbcs & OB, I'll pass it on.
  17. He looks like a Border Collie, :D so totally gorgeous. Congratulations JackC. You are so lucky to be able to get a puppy so quickly, some people wait for months or years to get the right pup. eta, you'll have to head on over to puppy problems & the "Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You"
  18. wow mita, I hope you have submitted a response with some of that info in the Comments window. I received an email from dlg thanking me for my response &
  19. Good on you & I totally agree with your reasoning. I'm not impressed with the work of that NSW Companion Animal Taskforce. The unique contribution of registered breeders & how they go about achieving it, should've been recognised in the original paper. They're the only group in dog breeding that have solid evidence that the majority do what they do well, in how they produce dogs suitable to be companion dogs. Which means they reduce the risk of their dogs becoming welfare problems. So what they already do is fine & should be supported, not penalised so they can't afford to keep breeding. Thanks mita. When I submitted my response I used the Dogs NSW suggestion. I wasn't able to think what I really wanted to say. I nearly didn't put interested individual on the form, glad now I did. Thought it funny that they, DogsNSW, didn't tell us to put our respective clubs. Very dodgy indeed Cat. To put another spanner in the works, tonight the Project did a story on Lane Cove Council wanting to charge members of the public a yearly fee for walking their dogs in their parks. As someone interviewed said "double dipping" as home owners already pay their council rates etc & if they go ahead with it other councils could follow suit.
  20. A friend of mine has a son living in Brisbane & he & his son wanted to share the same prefix. He's been told by Dogs NSW as they live in different states they have to have different ones as they both belong to different CC's.
  21. That's even worse Jed. I received yet another desperate email from Dogs NSW begging members to send in their responses for family members as well, so did one for OH.
  22. thanks persesphone, the advise is really appreciated :) I'm happy to switch it all around, nothing is set in stone and I'm sure the breeder will also help me out with bringing up the dog right. I see what you mean about new things being tiring, its kinda like us, if we just go to the gym and run on a treadmill we not only get bored quick but over time will only increase our endurance, but if we change it up every day at the gym, one day doing upper body, the next legs, the nest back, the next something else, we tire quicker as we are using new muscles (including our brain) every day and we progress faster and hold interest in what we are doing. I was thinking the same thing persephone. Trick training is the way to go with pups to exercise their brains as long as you don't do anything with jumping, begging or too much twisting. I have dabbled in Dancing with Dogs & there are lots of moves to teach your dog. And some of them are used in rally.
  23. Fantastic ad & yeah, Flynns a very clever dog & even better in the fur BC Crazy.
  24. I filled in the Taskforce Response form this morning. It took 3 goes for them to accept my response (keep persisting if you are rejected/time outed). If the reference no's on the online response form are anything to go by only 980 people have responded to the taskforce response paper since my son did his over a week ago. Come on people, fill in the form & send them in. With Dogs NSW saying they have 7000 member email addresses, that is not good enough IMHO. Although I'm not a breeder, I don't want my choice of puppy from a pure bred registered dog breeder restricted because most of them can't afford to keep breeding.
