  1. I had to pay a much higher council registration for Tilba because she wasn't desexed until 14 months old. I mentioned that I would be getting her desexed when older & was told I wouldn't get a refund, which I wasn't expecting anyway. I was also told that if I wanted to get a letter from the breeder to say that she was to be used as a breeder I would only have to pay the reduced fee.
  2. I've always thought they could understand language. Then a number of years ago Jonica Newby was one of the guest speakers & she said, after research, it was official, dogs can understand language.
  3. I also watched this video by Dr Karen Becker of MercolaHealthyPets This one about titres after the initial vaccinations. There's a bit about rabies but the rest is about the over vaccination of pets.
  4. No I don't think so, it's about the number of vaccines a pet receives at the one time & in it's lifetime.
  5. I was browsing videos after watching a link on another thread & found this video. Has your vet ever told you of the dangers of multiple vaccines given at once? Mine never has.
  6. Sorta doesn't make me feel so bad about my pups eating all manner of things they shouldn't. I'll have to stop watching all those vet programms, you know the ones with the ops for dogs that have a blockage from eating their collar, large bone fragment etc.....
  7. When Tilba was a puppy she ate a hole the size of a b/b plate in her bedding. She then went outside & ate copious amounts of grass for like an hour then threw up the bedding. Same here disintegratus she's such a guts that she's chewed up foil that's been wrapped around food, that only a week ago. I got up to see lots of tiny pieces of foil everywhere. She's chewed the foil pouches the cat food comes in to name but a few. I've now bought a kids sized wheely bin for the rubbish, I now just need to get the human family to always use it. :D
  8. Thanks for the links piper, very scary stuff, I definitely will throw the rest away & not use it again. I'm surprised your using something with an ingredient you don't know, and haven't at least googled to find out What it is That's what my son said, guess I was gullible in believing the woman selling it when she said it didn't have antibiotics in it. I've since looked up other products from piper's link & one even said it didn't have antibiotics in it but an antibacterial, aren't they much the same thing?
  9. Thanks for the links piper, very scary stuff, I definitely will throw the rest away & not use it again.
  10. Where can I buy it? Panda, my Japanese Spitz, has a tear staining problem so I decided to give it a go. He still has staining after nearly finishing the bottle but his tears have greatly reduced so feel that after a moult the staining will go away. I read on the forums last year about Angels' Eyes & how well it worked but the original one has anti-biotics in it & not advisable to use long term. The one I bought has sweet potato, brown rice & tylosin (don't know what this is). I asked the lady if it had anti-biotics in it & she assured me it didn't. Has anyone else used this product & for how long & how did you find it? I did a search for a previous thread & couldn't find it. eta - OK did a search in General & found a few threads so am off to have a read, but would still like to know where I can get it.
  11. That's right, he did a brilliant routine with his little Chihuahua at Crufts this year. About 15.42 in. There are also a couple of other small dogs further on.
  12. It's just so sad, that a young dog has to go through all this. I really feel for you both, having a BC a few months older than Kenzie. I couldn't bear it if the same things were happening to Tilba. I truly hope you make the right decisions for Kenzie & if you go down the surgery path I will be praying that it works.
  13. I wouldn't be feeding offal to a pup with loose stools. That needs to be introduced very, very slowly once the stools are firm. My JS had a problem with loose stools when I 1st got him even on the kibble the breeder told me she was feeding him. After a vet visit I put him on boiled chicken & rice for a few days, which helped. He's always had a problem with loose stools & is now on a raw diet (mainly for his teeth) of raw meaty bones, mostly chicken, meat chunks - not mince - dogs don't need mince or grains, turkey wings & very occasionally lamb flaps. He likes chicken hearts but I have a problem with chicken liver, have to lightly sear both sides for him to eat it & my BC won't touch it at all & she's normally a guts.
  14. Have you asked the breeder you got her from if she does this? I would also ask the breeder if they used a toilet command. If she'd been shown I think most showies do. I would keep her confined to a single room if you can't watch her & go back to basics. Outside after eating, sleeping, playing & every couple of hours in between. She may also be used to being crated at shows etc. Your BC's gorgeous by the way, if that's Kiska in your avatar.
  15. The 1st time we got 2 dogs my older dog was 7.5 years old. She wasn't the friendliest to other dogs & it took her 4 days to acknowledge the new pup. She used to sit on the pup & they looked like mother hen & chick. As the pup grew they became the best of mates & used to love to play tug together. After April passed Sooty was 7.5 years when I got Tilba. They too became best of friends but they didn't have the same bond that April & Sooty had. For a while we had 3 dogs until Sooty passed late last year. They all got on but Panda my JS used to give Sooty a wide birth because she would guard food & dishes. He also plays with Tilba & mostly it's him that instigates play. I read somewhere a long time ago that it's best to have 2-3 years & 3-4 years between big & small dogs, but I can't remember which way it goes. I would wait at least 2 years before getting another dog to give time for your present pup to settle down & become trained to your liking, they do copy each other & if he has any bad habits you'll have 2 dogs to train out of those bad habits. There are 2 labs that come to my obedience club & they have a ball together.
  16. This is exactly right. I never give a puppy access to the whole house until they are 99.9% reliable, unless they've already gone outside, for me in the yard, & I'm watching them. Did you start with taking him to his toilet after waking, eating, playing & every hour in between? That's been successful for me.
  17. So glad to hear that Chester finally has a chance at getting better. I can't believe the emergency vet didn't even look at him. He looks soooo cute in the yard with Raffi. :)
  18. Hope Luka is ok. Can't shed any light on what might be wrong, but have heard something about holding the head low but can't remember in what context.
  19. My son had a similar looking dog that was given to him through a work colleague in 2000 as a pit bull, staffy, collie, shephard cross. Her mother was the grandmother of the sire. BYB who said he loved the pittys. She was the funniest, sweetest dog to live with. He got her at 5 weeks 5 days old. She was fully toilet trained at 9 weeks old. That was tested out Christmas day when I locked her up in the dog "room" for 7 hours while we went to relations for Christmas dinner & came home to a dry floor. You need to keep him confined in a small easily cleaned room when you can't watch him. I never let my dogs free access to the whole house until I could trust them. Toilet training is easy if you take the puppy out after sleeping, eating, playing & every hour at other times. Take him outside to the same place & use your word when he's going, he'll soon catch on & praise & treats for doing the right thing. No use saying no as he doesn't know what it means especially if you use it for everything he does wrong. Re-direct him onto something he can do or have. kikopup on youtube has some fantastic training videos using clicker training. I wasn't allowed to take her to obedience training at 4 months but son finally let me take her at about 6 months & she picked things up very quickly. I stopped taking her at about a year as she had a run in with a doberman of the same age & she became very reactive to everyone & everything afterwards & me being short was not able to handle her lunging. She loved training treats but was absolutely ball mad so I was able to use that as a reward. If she hadn't became so reactive to other dogs I think she would have loved flyball. Like I said she was the funniest dog to live with & over her time we introduced her to 2 puppies & a kitten. She was fine with them as long as they didn't go near her food bowl. I don't know if you can see pics on your phone but here she is with my JS puppy. eta: she was always a lean dog, loved her food but never put any weight on.
  20. That's wonderful westiemum. Glad you could take him back for a little holiday otherwise he may have thought, Oh no not being passed on again. He'll be so glad to see his new mum when she returns. :)
  21. Another day gone, is there any word from the vet what is wrong with the puppy?
  22. This link was posted on FB. Have South Australian members heard of this proposal? & is it true? http://m.theaustralian.com.au/news/sa-parliamentary-committee-wants-laws-to-eradicate-puppy-farms/story-e6frg6n6-1226673827209 [Quote: About 64 per cent of dogs and most cats with a permanent home are desexed. In evidence to the committee, RSPCA Australia said pet owners who refused to desex their animals should have to pay an extra fee of $20 to $30 to become a registered breeder to combat backyard breeding. The RSPCA also called for all dogs and cats to be desexed before 12 weeks of age unless their owner planned to breed them. Any owner who did not desex their pet would have to register as a breeder even if they had no immediate plans to breed. The Dog and Cat Management Board supported compulsory desexing and microchipping. Quote] I find these points ludicrous. I'm not against desexing my dogs but will not early desex because of allowing for proper developement. I would think this would open the gates for joe public to think they had a "right" to now indiscriminately breed their non-pedigree dogs after paying the small extra fee on their council registration. What do you think? all of this on top of the NSW Companion Animal taskforce paper.
