Too funny! I have to admit I read you post and thought...Saxamaphone

Omg...I don't think anyone is supposed to overhear me calling the pup by his nicknames. Saxon get Sax, Saxie, Saxony, Chappie, Goob, Goober, Big Idiot, Big Boob, Jube...there are probably lots more  The horse also comes running if I yell out things like "Oi Monkey"!

The only time I cut the quick was when my boy was a pup, back when didn't mind his nails being clipped. He's usually the melodramatic sooky type. I nearly had a heart attack each time he started screaming and limping as a puppy (he was always fine and the only times he really hurt himself he didn't make a big deal of it). He didn't even seem to notice when I cut the quick. He was fine having his nails clipped for a long time afterwards...and then one day he had a big panic about it (which was really fun with 70kgs of weight behind the flailing legs and paws). I've managed to get him over the big dramatic panic, but he hates it still and he gets very sulky and still.

Looks so good! I probably shouldn't have gone to look at the site though. Dangerous!

Cleanrun.com Has Free Shipping On Lots Of Toys...
Aphelion replied to megan_'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I received my final order today, which I didn't get a tracking number for. I received a wrong item again, for a second time. I don't mind too much because Cleanrun seem to be so good at fixing any mistakes. It wasn't until I started playing with the toy that I began to think it was slightly smaller than I was expecting. So I went and double checked, and I'd received the Ringzees Wool Ring instead of the slightly more expensive Lollycadoodle one. I really wish some of the harnesses they were selling were stocked in one size larger though. I'm trying to decide where to get one from instead. They're all so much more expensive in stores here, and there's a really limited range. Surely I should be able to find somewhere with bearable shipping prices... -

I've got all mine except my last order which I haven't received a tracking number for. I hope it's on it's way anyway. -
My boy won't take training treats (and he's not keen on tugging either) when he's hot...given that his recall is something we're still working on, I haven't quite solved that issue yet. Even if I take him out once it's cooled off in the evening, he's not interested. He'll sometimes take a treat then spits it back out.

Only just saw this and that's great. I thought at least they had a picture and video in the original article I came across, but they were so vague about the dog, which was a shame. Considering how often the breed is splashed across the news at any time of an attack, it's great to see someone mentioning the breed name also when the news is positive.

 So disgusting!

It wouldn't hurt to email the company. They might be able to recommend something. A link to their website is on a couple of my posts in this thread. I think I might do that. I was probably avoiding it because I don't really need to spend more money right now, but why not! :D They're not that expensive. You can get them online for around $20, but at the vets they're more like $30. That's where I got mine. I see them for over nz$50 mostly around here. We get overcharged for everything!

 My boy does sneak in the occasional face lick. But his tongue cover most of my face in one lick, so pretty disgusting! The cat totally puts up with it and then I have accidentally kissed the top of her head afterwards.

My pup towers over my bed pretty easily. I've found that I wake up the second I hear him walking my way and I usually turn the other way or hide under my blankets so that he doesn't lick my face. He finds it a bit hard to resist when you're lower that he is. He's also a bit weird and will quite happily lick clothes. Just a lick or two. That's way less gross than on the face, but you don't always want your clothes licked either! I too don't touch food without washing my hands. Getting sick is no fun and I barely have the time to get sick at the moment anyway. Public toilets are pretty gross too. I never want to turn the tap back off or open the door with my hands after washing them. And then those people who try to hand you food that you'd have to touch to eat when you're at the supermarket! I'm always like, ugh...with my trolley infected hands...don't think so!

My boy will always get plenty of raw meat, but I have to admit, I'm very grossed out when I see horse meat. No way am I ever going to go near it. I just couldn't.

I'd like to try this, because my boy doesn't like a halter on his head. He's pretty good and mostly I walk him with a flat collar, but he only needs to have one bouncy moment to make things really difficult, he outweighs me by a fair bit. The mesh sporn specifies up to 100 pounds, but the original sporn halter in XL only says neck size and "over 90 pounds". My boy is over 150 pounds, so I wonder if it's big enough and worth trying.

Those are great! Here's one more commercial I remember with a bit of slow mo too! :D

Reminded me of this commercial that I saw some time ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSl0D1eZ-nU

I don't really let him, but he did manage to lick my face this morning when I was still in bed. It was pretty gross! He always angles in for earlobes too.

What Wierd Stuff Does Your Dog Do With You?
Aphelion replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
If I'm training my boy and he doesn't understand something more than once, he goes into the good boy pose which looks a little like this He's quite hard to rouse once in the good boy pose. He stays still for about 30 seconds and then starts responding again, suddenly and enthusiastically. If you're getting ready to do something he really wants to do, like go out for a walk or get his dinner ready, he will get excited for a few seconds, and then he goes into the good boy pose. -
What a cutie!

A dog has saved its US owners' baby after it stopped two armed robbers fleeing out the back door with the three-month-old girl on Tuesday morning. MSN new article

The way I think of it in relation to my own dogs is definitely breed related. I didn't think of my sheltie as mature at 6 but my leonberger certainly will be. I agree with the others that in terms of rescues they are just referring to a dog that is no longer an adolescent.

Help With Stopping Mouthing In Adult-ish Dog.
Aphelion replied to Zoomie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My boy was always very mouthy. He still has his moments, despite the fact that I've always worked hard to discourage it. He's two now as well, and tends to forget himself when he's very playful. As a pup he was one of those ones that got VERY revved up by the yelp, which just resulted in much more and stronger mouthing. A growl or any other noise had the same effect, so he was a bit of a challenge. I find clicker training helpful in this sort of situation, because you can slowly build up the arousing situation. I find kikopup's youtube videos helpful too. -
He's so cute! I found it a bit scary when my pup cried in his pen at first too. I felt like such a meanie! It is such a shock for them to suddenly be away from other dogs and company for the first time. I tried to be quite gentle with my boy, so that the pen was never punishment. I played with him in there and he got treats, and Kong's filled with goodies. For a while I'd only leave him on his own (particularly if he was unsettled) for a very short time, mostly I'd stay within sight or definitely hearing distance until he was more comfortable, gradually building up time. If he was crying a lot I wouldn't necessarily reward that, but I might go back and potter around in the room he was in (ignoring the crying) until he was settled again. He's the most social dog, just loves company, anyone will do. So now looking back it's not surprising that he cried at 8 weeks old when he was left alone for the first few times!
