My 3 whippets wippa hannah and zoe and my beautiful Greyhound Elly ( rescued through Greyhound Safety Net) .. Whippets are so addictive and greyhounds are so misunderstood they make lovely pets (couch potatoes)
  1. I would definitely get a skin scraping one of our whippets has demodectic mange and sounds a little like that. He had red skin and hair loss at about 4 months and then at about 5 6 months started to get pimple like infections that were full of puss
  2. My puppy had a bad case of the runs for a few days.. took her to the vet and it was put own to her diet changing (breeder used pedigree and i had her on science diet) the vet told me to feed her boiled chicken and rice for a few days... it worked thankfully.. maybe try put your dog on boiled chicken and rice to try and settle his stomach.. just til u can take him to the vet edited to add didn't realise it has been posted already
  3. The supermarket brand .. lesson learned the vet told me once she's better on chicken and rice to slowly introduce it back into her diet.. my other puppy hasn't had any problems with the change . i use advance for my big whippet and greyhound is that crap too?
  4. The breeder didn't recommend any diet !! she was feeding them pedigree and we chose science diet cos that is what my other whippet was brought up on.. we even told her we were gonna use science diet .. i'd rather my babies get a good dry food instead of supermarket rubbish!!
  5. just taken both to the vet.. there temps are fine.. theres no obstructions .. everything appears normal she gave her tablets to help stop the diarrhea and told me to feed her boiled chicken and rice until it all calms down then slowly introduce the science diet .We only gt the pups last friday and she thinks it stress related and change of diet ( last owners fed her pedigree and were feeding her science diet) If shes no better tomorrow arvo ill be taking her back.. after hours vets are so expensive $170 for a consult!! but its worth it i wouldn't have slept after hearing about parvo outbreaks.. i would've been stressing all night especially after reading what stormy and her Italian greyhound went though !!
  6. ok shes off to a vet found one open in our area... taking her sister too just to be safe.. thanks everyone
  7. Hi All Recently purchased 2 8 week old whippet puppies.. One is doing fine but the other poor baby has really bad diarrhea. Im not sure what to do.. Its very watery and is coming unexpectedly.. she farts the poor girl and my poor carpet is copping it (anyone know to clean it everything im trying ain't working) It started yesterday and hasn't stopped i would've taken her the vet yesterday but i thought it would pass and now my vet isn't open today. Just wondering what i could to until i can get her to he vet tomorrow? It only happened yesterday a few times but today she can't control herself.. theres no blood in it but ive noticed its very grainy?.. we have a sand pit she was playing in yesterday morning if she ate some would that give her an upset tummy? shes on science diet puppy and we've been giving her a few tippets for dinner ..but im doubting its her diet cos her sister doesn't have it..?? Any help would be grateful thanks
  8. Thanks everyone for your answers and help.. hopefully my boy will get better soon with a better diet and i few herbal remedies...
  9. Thanks for all the info cavandra i found a BARF stockist near me which is great from what ive read ill put my pups on it too . And ill buy some garlic cloves and apple cider vinegar... Ill speak to my vet too about the titer test and get it done asap i never thought his vaccination's could affect it but from what ive been researching it might not of helped his case! His due for his annual vac in a few weeks so ill be testing him first... hope it all helps
  10. Yes he's desexed my vet recommended it theres no way id want some elses puppies to have it... yet the person we got him off continues to breed We have pyohex and use it twice a week but i didnt know about the conditioner thanks
  11. Hes on advance brand chicken dry food.. then we swap to advance turkey and rice because he gets sick of the same stuff .. ill buy some advocate tommorrow its worth a shot thanks :-)
  12. Hi im new to this so here goes... hope someone can help My 14 month old male whippet 'wippa' has generalized demodectic mange.. He was first diagnosed in march last year when he was only 4 months old. The vet put him on sheep ivermectin which kind of helped then we moved to a new suburb and got a new vet.. He is now on cattle ivomec which is alot better cos of the diff formulas he only needs .8ml instead of the 5.7ml he was having on the sheep ivomec.. We saw great results after the swap but now it seems like he is going backwards and is getting worse. I'm hoping someone can help me with his diet.. ive read that diet can make a huge difference to there immune system.. He currently is on advance dry food and is fed chicken wings and necks every night with lamb shanks regularly. We also give him sardines a few times a week and pasta and vegies !!! Would holistic food be better for him? and is there any vitamins i could give him?? or any other treatments anyone knows of? does advocate actually help to fix it or is it just a claim? He's a beautiful natured boy and it breaking my heart seeing him this way ill do anything to get him better .. Ive recently purchased 2 new whippet pups off a different reputable breeder is there anyway they could catch this because they're only 8 weeks old? I had previously contacted the breeder we got wippa from and they didn't want anything to do with it .. disappointing considering i just wanted to know how they treated the mother if she had it... ( the vet told me thats the most likely cause) any help would be grateful
