I've had this on my shih tzu. The vet said it was yeast infection. What I did was pull out all the hair in the ears and applied tri-optic ointment into the ears. Massage it around and use cotton pads cut in half and rolled up and carefully clean the ear canal but make sure not to go too deep. Do this for about a week until all the brown stuff is out. Hope this helps.

I have tried looking locally (I am in Hawaii) for Dr. Billinhurst's book on the barf diet but it is no where to be found. I am considering feeding raw to my shih tzu. He is only 4.5 months old. Would this be good for a pup or more for an adult dog? Also, does the breed type matter? If not, what are your recommendations? THanks.

Thanks for the reply. I understand now. My boy needs to put on some weight, so chicken mince it is.

This may sound like a dumb question, but what exactly is chicken mince? Is it a whole chicken (bones included) grounded up like hamburger? I am from the US and have never seen chicken mince, maybe its called something else here. I am interested in this because my 5 month old shih tzu is not eating much and is underweight/size.
