Of those two options, I selected boarding kennell. I would prefer boarding to someone coming in and feeding/walking etc (and so would Tintin. Lola probably couldn't care less!). Our preference, though, is to have someone move into our house while we are away. We have just done this again with new house sitters and it worked really well.

Having a house sitter can be great. For the last five years, we have gone away for two weeks after christmas. We found house sitters on Happy Housesitters. The same family have been here for the last 4 years. Their references were easy to check as the parents are both school teachers. They love having a cheap holiday (they drive down from Sydney) where they have a home as a base and we love having someone look after the animals and the house. And it works out really good value for us too because we don't have to pay boarding fees. Our pets don't have the stress of going somewhere else for a while either. I think housesitting wins hands down a long as you can get good references.

Both of our four legged creatures were named by our kids. Tintin after the French cartoon It confuddles everyone because most people don't seem to have heard of it. They think he's named after Rin Tin Tin. We have a vintage poster featuring Tintin and Snowy selling Orangina. Very cute. Lola is named after Lola from Charlie and Lola. Now we need a Charlie.

Not directly but you gave enough info for anyone to find out pretty easily. If you didn't mean to, maybe you should change the identifying info. I don't think that Charjas has crossed the line with mentioning the sire and dam I didn't mean to imply that they had crossed a line. They seemed surprised that someone knew who the breeder was and I pointed out that it was from the info they gave. They may not have been aware that by giving that info, their breeder could be found.

I agree with Cosmolo re the potential for timidity. Go and visit a couple of breeders if you can or go to shows. Tintin is 3yo now. He has never been a big digger. He has a bit of a go in the sandpit but nothing destructive. I don't think he is difficult to train. He is the most wonderful, gentle dog and is always making us laugh. We were very particular about looking for a breeder and I think that paid off. Good luck with your research. They are awesome dogs

Does anyone know if there is a service available for rehoming dogs in a situation like the OP? Something where the owner would pay a fee to cover the costs plus some. I imagine it would be really hard for a regular dog owner to rehome their dog as they don't have the knowledge or connections, which, in turn can lead to a poor outcome for the dog. I know that I often see ftgh ads and I always wonder how they manage to find an appropriate home. My local Freecycle group often has dogs on offer. I guess that a lot of people wouldn't be prepared to pay for someone to help rehome.
