  1. Big hugs ES. Ducks are the funniest of creatures and so endearing. I totally get that you loved and will miss your beautiful girl. To lose two treasured pets so close together must be very hard.
  2. The last missing dog is only five months old. Would such a young dog have the ability to return to the crash scene or make their way home? It is really sad that she's out there by herself. I was so sure the last two would be found together.
  3. What if it stated that thy wanted you to arrange PTS in their will? You haven't said yes but it is now your responsibility.
  4. This thread has really got me thinking. My family member who wants her dogs pts when she passes has discussed her wishes with me and with another family member. I have not agreed that I would do that. I sincerely hope the decision will not be mine because I will be very torn. I'm pretty sure it will be, though Without going into too much detail, I can say that she is a negligent owner. It might seem very strange to some but I would feel terrible if her dogs didn't get a chance of a happier life after her passing. But I don't think I could go against her wishes if it was my responsibility. If it happens that it is someone else's decision I will support them with whatever they decide to do.
  5. Poor dog. It may well have bonded with someone else but wasn't given a chance. This issue hits a bit of a nerve for me. I have a close family member who has two dogs. She has constantly told us that she wants them to be pts when she passes. She thinks they wouldn't cope without her. I believe that the dogs would actually be much better off and could get the chance to have a much better life without her.
  6. The one that was just found was not far from the crash site. From what I can gather, she crossed the highway today. Waggit, the injured one has been responding well to treatment. She is eating but unable to stand. She has a fractured scull How they all survived that crash is absolutely amazing. Tough little dogs, that's for sure. ETA. Snap HW.
  7. Only one left now. Hopefully she can be found before she has to spend another night in the cold.
  8. My heart skipped a beat when i saw that there had been a sighting. There are so many people searching for these girls. It must be so stressful not being able to get hold of them. I hope they stay safe and are contained soon.
  9. A lot of people don't believe that our LR isn't some sort of poodle cross. It is amazing how adamant they can be. Some people are funny
  10. How disappointing for you. We recently acquired a new dog. When we got him home, he, too, was resource guarding, particularly me from our existing dog. I was very worried about this behaviour and sought the help of a trainer. I won't go into what she had us doing because I will likely just confuse you and leave critical parts out but it was extremely successful very quickly. He has been here a few months now and is just so lovely. I'm not sure how bad your dog is but if you really feel that you would prefer to keep him and give it a shot, you will definitely need some professional assistance and soon. Good luck with whatever you chose to do.
  11. Ooooohhhhh a cocker puppy Re puppy school, I took my puppy to Jennifer Wilcox at Paw Behaviour. I think her classes are very well run. I travelled there (Carrum) from Mornington. May be too far for you? I hope you pop on over to the DOL Cocker Spaniel thread. There are lots of experienced CS owners in there. Are you happy to share the breeders name? Good luck getting through the next few days while you wait and wait and wait.
  12. Hey tlc... Just letting you know that I'm loving all your shots. It looks like you're the last one standing! Only a few more days to go...
  13. Even though you knew it was coming, you must be devastated to lose such an awesome little man. He was one of those memorable DOL dogs that we've all come to love. Thinking of you
  14. Same here. Very sad news. Big
  15. Oh dear, she has those I'm-such-an-angel-I-can't -do-anything-wrong eyes  Game over! She is just beautiful. Enjoy her puppy fun :)
  16. That sounds like an awful lot of work. Poor you and poor Bruno I haven't got any experience with allergies, thank goodness, but I did have a dog with a murmur. He was a JRT x. When I first got him (he was anywhere from 2-4yo) I had him checked by a vet who detected the murmur. He was quite concerned when he detected it but he told me that we would monitor him and see how he was. Over his lifetime, he had several vets comment on his murmur but I cant see that it had any effect at all. He was completely mad and unstoppable. He left us a couple of years ago as an aged dog but his passing had nothing to with his murmur. I can't remember what grade it was. Good luck with getting things sorted for your boy.
  17. ...which reminds me that I think I have talked about our success with HH before and someone asked me for details of one of our sitters. Oops, I can't find the thread and cant remember much more. If you asked me for details and I ignored you, I'm really sorry. Just give me a reminder and I will fill you in
  18. We've used Happy Housesitters quite a few times and have always been very happy. We usually go away for 2 weeks after christmas (we didn't this year) and have had the same family 4 times at that time. They come down from NSW. They have 2 kids who are the loveliest, most caring children we could hope for with our animals. I would highly recommend them. Last Easter, we had another family stay here when we went away. They, too, were just great. They really looked after everything and they had a great little holiday. I think it helps if your house is in an area which has something to offer. It makes it worthwhile for the people housesitting. Much cheaper for them than paying to rent a holiday house and all the comforts of home. We've used other people from HH before too, but these were the most recent. We would happily use either of them again. I would always suggest someone who you can meet beforehand or get RELIABLE references for.
  19. What an amazing thing you are doing for your beautiful dog, Jelly. I don't have any advice, just a whole lot of admiration. Best wishes with whatever way this takes you.
  20. Our old neighbours used to have a cat who visited at night time. We ended up having to lock Jackson inside at night because he would bark his head off, which the other neighbours (understandably) didn't like. I was also worried that if he caught the cat, it wouldn't have lived long. As annoying as the cat was, it was it's silly owners fault that it wandered - I didn't want it to be hurt or killed. I wish I'd known about Vicks then!
  21. That's a real pain in the butt A few weeks ago, I heard Shannon Lush on the radio saying to use Vicks vapourub (camphor?) where you don't want cats in your yard or inside. She said the smell is undetectable by humans after a little bit but the cats will be able to smell it for ages. We don't have cats in our backyard anymore but our new cocker decided to poo on the deck and the paths, not on grass. Ewwwww! I put a bit of vicks around the place and he hasn't done his business there since Worth a try for your visitors.
  22. Tintin has seriously hairy ears. He was constantly having problems. I though the same as you re the epi otic. It seemed a but odd to be using moisture to clear it up. I contacted his breeder who told me about Thornit powder. I bought it a couple of months ago and, so far, his ears are clear. He doesn't fuss over them any more at all. He must be so much more comfortable. I got mine from Whelping Supplies.
  23. I think I'd obey those eyes, kja! Great capture :)
  24. Look at the gentle and loving eyes in this photo... T. That one really got me too. Such a beautiful boy I hope you are doing OK, Caz
