Good idea. Pretty sure I spotted a Lagotto in the Fawkner Park pics Keep it up :)

I hadn't thought about the ninja cat. But I think you're all right. Smarty pants wouldn't take long to work out how to get though with the dogs. Yep, FF, it's discriminatory. For several reasons, we don't want Lola to go into the backyard without us there. Mostly because we can't contain her there and we can't keep other (far more evil) moggies out. Not safe for our precious petal but fine for the boof heads. Lola has access to her very own sun drenched courtyard. Really, she's doing ok. She just wants what she can't have.

We need to replace our dog door as it was broken by intruders The one which was broken was just a plastic frame with a rubber flap. It took a while but Lola, our inquisitive cat, worked out she could use it. I've been looking around for a suitable replacement and am having trouble. Does anyone have a dog door that the dogs can use but the cat's can't? I think that our only option may be the ones with the magnetic thingy that is attached to the dogs collar. I'd rather not use that if it can be avoided. Thanks :)

I've just browsed though his whole portfolio. They're really beautiful. Thanks :)

how frightening. I hope he leaves you alone now.

She's such a beautiful girl. You're doing a great job. Is that a Lagotto friend at daycare? ETA I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend. I hope you're ok.

Are Small Terriers This Accident Prone?
Tintin Jac replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Based on my extremely limited knowledge of the breed (I have had 1JRT who was quite possibly a cross) I am not surprised at all. He was completely fearless and impulsive. Among his list of attempts to kill himself were: Running at top speed into a door which wasn't there the day before Running in front of the 4wd wheel as it started, resulting in a very squashed head with several holes in his head Taking a flying leap off a 4 wheeler after a rabbit. He caught the rabbit but did his cruciate ligament Doing the other cruciate ligament because staying still wasn't an option Getting stuck about 15 metres up a tree chasing a possum Killing several snakes Playing chasey with my TB And the list goes on How the hell he lived to old age is a mystery. He was the best little dog but gave me several very big headaches! I think it's such a great idea to keep stats like that. I wonder how they re collected and how reliable they are. Being in Finland, they've probably got all the ins and outs sorted. I imagine it would be much more difficult to keep stats like that here. -
I thought the same thing!! That was a bit weird. Maybe they were just stunned. Hopefully

 That is amazing. Thank you :)

We're not getting NBN for ages but my MIL is moving into a retirement village with it. She's only a couple of hundred meters up the road. She wouldn't even know what a computer looks like

She hasn't been found. Her owners haven't given up though. -
What is PING?

That is the most confronting part for me. I know it is legal but it saddens me that people are ok with treating pets as livestock. I would have thought that selling dogs in pet shops was decreasing. More and more 'pet shops' are opening that don't sell animals. Aren't people becoming more aware? Surely there wouldn't be much of a market for this type of 'farming' business.
-
Agreed. Nice grassed runs, kennels set up high. In my mind, that doesn't make it ok though. I can't see that, even if the living conditions are sort of passable, pups could get anything resembling a good start to life.

I know I can be a bit of a mushroom but that shocked me. Amazing. Sad.

Sheridan, I can see where you're coming from. It has happened with "my" breed quite a bit. Oh good, a non shedding dog...just what we want...oops, it isn't what we were expecting, off to the pound for you. LR's are quite rare but theye seem to pop up in shelters/needing rehoming relatively regularly. Having said that, I think the opinions and suggestions here are quite sensible. I don't think anyone is saying that non-shedding is/should be their only criteria, just that it is important. We definitely wanted a dog that didn't shed but all of the other traits for that breed, along with careful selection of breeder, were vital in our process. JRT Lover seems to be very aware of several things she is looking for in a new dog.
-
In our case, non shedding was quite high on our priority list when we got Tintin, a Lagotto. We had a JRTx at the time and his hair drove me completely bonkers! It was EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. I just didn't want to get a dog that would add to that. Also, I really like brushing so the extra time involved with a non shedding dog wasn't a problem. We didn't sacrifice any of the other requirements we had. Really, if you are after non/low shedding, there are quite a few very different breeds to choose from. But a Lagotto was the best fit for us. If we hadn't decided we wanted a non shedding dog, we would never have discovered the awesome Lagotto. Jackson, the JRTx has since passed on and I must have forgotten what it was like because we then got a Birman cat . She's lucky she's gorgeous, I tell you! Now we have added a cocker spaniel to the mix. I was expecting to have to deal with bloody hair blowing all around the house again but it hasn't happened. Maybe he's faulty? He doesn't lose hair at all. Now we're thinking (well I am, OH is still in denial  ) about getting a British Shorthair. Mad!

Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
Tintin Jac replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Going a bit OT...is the pound stressful for all dogs, do you think? I would hope that a cocker x may be so happy to have company and some understanding that it may feel a bit more relaxed than constantly getting into trouble or not having company. That is going on my incredibly limited (to 1!) knowledge of the breed. I reckon that, as much as Hector loves being here, he may well have preferred the pound to his previous home. Obviously, a caring home environment is going to be better, though. ETA Just saw your post DD :) -
Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
Tintin Jac replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I knew I shouldn't have looked. Those damn cocker eyes I will send you a PM of someone who may be able to help this poor boy. Gosh, I hope someone can help him - it sounds like he could do with some more understanding. -
4yo Lagotto Romagnolo At Arq
Tintin Jac replied to Tintin Jac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Is anyone familiar with ARQ? I don't understand why he is so urgent and they have said he will be pts. Aren't they a no kill rescue? -
4yo Lagotto Romagnolo At Arq
Tintin Jac replied to Tintin Jac's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Neither can I. I saw the message on the Lagotto Romagnolo facebook page. It seemed like an odd message, almost threatening pts so I went looking and found him on the ARQ facebook page. -
It's not often that these beautiful dogs end up homeless. I have just seen a post on a LR Facebook page about a 4yo male LR needing a home. It is also listed on the Animal Rescue Qld Facebook page. Our Lagotto is 4yo too and is the most beautiful, loving boy. Hopefully someone is able to help this boy out if his breeder can't.
