I'm cheating a bit coming in here because it's not a puppy for me I'm heading off this morning with a friend to pick up her chocolate teddy bear puppy A gorgeous Lagotto Romagnolo pup from the same breeder as Tintin. Just a bit excited!!

He sounds like a ripper little dog, KittyKat. And so lucky to have found you to look after . There is something crazily special about Jack Russells. I'm sure that, when they pass, they all gather together and try to out do each other with their mad stories. RIP Little Jack

I haven't got a clue why he was rehomed but, as others have mentioned, there could have been any number of reasons. Maybe she fell upon hard times, maybe she had to reduce numbers, maybe he wasn't happy in the environment. The breeder is over the moon to have been contacted now and has been to see Mr Darcy. Yes, he was labelled as a Fox Terrier x. If the surrendering family had given his papers to the pound, his exact breed would have been known. As they didn't, the pound staff couldn't have been sure of his breeding.

Not sure where to post this. It made me smile :) We have friends in Cairns who rescued a "Fox Terrier x" from YAPS last year. Yesterday, our friend happened to be browsing a Fox Terrier breeders site and saw photos of her dog, Mr Darcy! She has now made contact with the breeder who is pretty darn pleased to have been contacted. The breeder had thought he went to a good home but he somehow found his way to the pound. He was her first home bred Grand Champion so is pretty special to her. We've met the wonderful Mr Darcy. He's a bit bonkers but totally adorable and has landed himself an awesome family

Wow! Does anyone know if it is common for cats to protect people? That cat was very determined.

Gosh, 4 years already. This post gave me shivers. I often think of what you went through that day and the way it changed your life.

He goes for a reasonable walk most days. At home, we play quite a bit. He loves to learn and use his brain. He is pretty easy to teach but always seems to weigh up his options. Unlike our cocker who is slower to pick things up but never questions, he just does. and this is vitally important - he has a companion ..AND access to indoor/outdoor . he is not alone and outside . Yes. He loves having a mate. They're always together. I think most lagottos are the same. Well, most dogs, really. Tintin is also very much an inside dog, although he loves being outside if we are or if the sun is shining on the right spot on the deck.

Tintin is a Deelee boy. Yes, we were pretty specific about the temperament we were after. At that time, there were quite a few breeders starting out with Lagotto's. I felt that some may have been jumping on a popularity bandwagon. One of the things that I liked about Deelee was that they were involved in importing dogs from OS, at great expense. To me, they were really investing in the future of the breed. We were also very particular about the early training he had. I made sure I found a puppy school that would help us to raise a confidant, stable tempered dog. He does dig sometimes but only rarely. He used to dig quite a bit in the kids sandpit but its not there anymore and he doesn't really seem to care. He does occasionally dig strange (very narrow and quite deep) holes in the lawn . He hasn't done that for a long time, though. When he's left alone by himself, I'm pretty sure he just rests. He (and Hector, the cocker) have access to the lounge room and back yard while we are out. He is never destructive and doesn't bark much while we are out. One time he did, the neighbours called me as they thought it was strange. We were being robbed. I hadn't heard of Lagotto's before I came onto this forum. We were looking to get a puppy and I came here asking about various breeds. We went to have a look at them at a show and just fell in love. The one we met at the show was very gentle and confidant with our children in a loud, unfamiliar environment. I have to say that Tintin has been the same. Not at all nervy or hyper like some others have experienced. I'm pretty sure Cali doesn't live in Australia so the dogs she's seen are not here.

Vbs, I just saw this post and, even though it looks like you've decided against a lagotto, I thought I'd throw my 2cents into the ring. We got our LR pup when our youngest child was just 1yo. Tintin has been the most wonderful dog to have with children. I don't think we just got lucky. We were very particular about breeders and also about training. He is such a cruisy, gentle boy. You are more than welcome to come and meet him if you would like to. We are in Mornington, Vic.

If she's specifically after someone local, Erin at Sit Happens is excellent and is in Mornington. She was a great help with our cocker who we got as a 2yo with severe resource guarding issues.

Actually, I think I had the wrong item from the Apple shop. I think this is the same one. It comes in the pretty red, too :D But they still reckon they can get away with charging $40 more for it. Cheeky monkeys! ETA, Pers, sorry to railroad your thread

Awesome Pers. Did you buy it from the US? I'm pretty sure I can remember you posting about it when you bought it but I haven't got a chance of finding that post. Maybe it was Catch of the Day?

Clearly I don't have a clue about rescue and how it works...It just seems crazy that these positions are unpaid. Especially given that the council has a say in selection of the applicants. MUP I think you're fantabulous for all the work you do there :)

OT...Just watched the video. They look like best friends...no wonder you can't keep him out of your yard :laugh:
