  1. I think this post is very important. Measuring the amount of food in "cups" is by no means accurate. It is much more accurate to measure by weight, especially if you want to reduce the weight of an obese dog. It is the only real way to be able to tell what you are ACTUALLY feeding. Best of luck.
  2. You may get a refund on unopened dog food only as there in no recall on the dog food, just no longer selling it Oh bugger! As a retailer, I hope you're not left with heaps of unwanted stock
  3. And I thought I was the research nut! Well done, that is very helpful :provoke:
  4. Poochmad, you may be able to get a refund as Orijen is no longer selling in Australia. You can definitely get a refund for their cat food but it's worth checking for the dog food as well. ETA Pookinuk would not be out of pocket as Orijen is funding the recall.
  5. Oh, that's really sad. It sounds like you and Monster had a wonderful time together and achieved so much. Thinking of you.
  6. I'm not sure where you are but there may be a vet in your area who can assess your dog for very little expense to you as I know that you haven't got any spare cash at the moment. There is one place in Melbourne that I know of that can help. You can pay a small consultation fee and then whatever you can afford after that for any extra treatment. There may be a similar place in your area or a similar service to help dog owners who haven't got access to the required funds. It might just put your mind at rest if you can get a more thorough vet exam.
  7. I don't have the post but I saved the link as I thought it would come in handy one day dog food analysis Is that what you were looking for?
  8. Chelseas Mum - Do you know what rate to dilute the apple cider vinegar? Sounds like it's worth a try.
  9. I feel for you and your dog. It is a sad situation. Our dog, also a JRT, started to display a strange change in behaviour a year or so ago. In his case, he started wanting to be up at night and seemed to wander aimlessly, among other unusual things for him. The vet suggested he may displaying signs of dementia. She suggested we try Hills BD (brain diet). I don't know what is in it that helps, but it has made an enormous difference in our situation. Maybe it would be worth having a chat to your vet about it. I would also be interested to see if anyone has any "natural" ideas for you.
  10. Is it rude to have a laugh at your post? I really hope that you dog will be OK and I know it's not a laughing matter but you have a very amusing way of putting things  As I was reading, I was going to suggest using Manuka honey (with the highest rating you can find) on the wound but I think maybe you have enough mess without adding sticky, gooey honey! Maybe ask the vet about it. My vet recommended it when my horse cut through to bone (so glad horses don't live inside - lots of blood ewwwww). The wound was in a difficult spot and he said it would help keep it clean. It certainly did the trick. Well, thanks for the giggle and I hope your dog is fine in no time. Enjoy the wine
  11. I use Picasa, which I find is very good for my needs. I am only an amateur though. It seems to have a very large, free capacity for storage. It is easy for friends and family to look at the pics wherever they are. You can choose to have the albums for private (you choose who) or public access. You do need a gmail account though to set it up. Picasa
  12. Just sticking my nose in here...I thought the OP was saying that she will be at work for the first 2 weeks when they get their puppy, then on leave from work and at home for the next 6 weeks. So, "holidaying" at home with pup. ETA SNAP TerraNik
  13. Just a query...in your opinion, is it the theory and practice of Delta training which you think is the problem or the way some trainers have interpreted it and implement their version of it? Back on topic, if, as a client I was told something negative about a particular trainer, my response would depend on how reliable/experienced the person telling me was and also what they perceived the problem to be. I don't think I would report anything as it is hearsay. But, if I heard something dreadful a few times from a reliable source, I would maybe contact their governing body or affiliate.
  14. It's not my thread but I just want to say thanks to BC for the advice on what to look for. Invaluable - thanks
  15. For those in Victoria who are interested, Orijen have advised me that their food is available from: 4 Paws & More, Keilor Park Pet Maniacs, High St, Thornbury Pookinuk.com.au, Hawthorn
  16. I noticed earlier today that "Miranda" got hers from 4 Paws and More in Keilor Park Drive. They sent it by courier. orijen pg 3.
  17. Thanks again - am off to see if I can find any of these books now. ETA WalandLibby - was just checking out your website - lots of very handy info
  18. Our boy was recently acting very unusually. The vet thought that he might be going a bit senile. We changed his diet to one recommended by the vet and within a week, he was pretty much acting normally again. So, for your dog, if that's what the vet thinks it is, it could be very easily managed. BTW our dog was getting agro when touched and quite withdrawn. He had also started to get some very annoying sleeping habits such as sleep all day, up all night. It was a relief for us to find out what it was and be able to help him. Hope you are able to work out what's up with your dog.
  19. I haven't got anything to add specifically but am very interested as we're looking at possibly getting a Lagotto. There's so much that we need to be aware of. BTW Is the breeder the only holder of HD records? Can we pretty safely assume that what we're told is fact or should we double check on a register somewhere?
  20. Luke W - do you know if the downloadable Before you get your Puppy is the same as what is contained in Before & after you get your Puppy? I realise that the after bit in the book is different but was wondering if I need to download AND buy the book or if it's all in the book. Thanks
  21. So I'm not the only one! Maybe they're not selling them atm because I couldn't see any crates on their site either
  22. Ditto ... black wire crate also bought from Ebay mine was a great price and I also bought a crate cover too. I was able to pick up too from the seller I had (close to me and in Melbourne ... let us know where you are and then it is easier to direct you to the right place) so saved on the delivery costs. I also bought a few other things from this seller .. all good quality and no problems at all with the transaction. The buyer I used was 'PuppyPower' Here is my crate and the crate cover that I bought .. took some shots tonight to show another DOL (different thread) I'm glad this question was asked too and am very interested in all the replies. Noodlenut, did you get the bed or mat that goes with the crate or did you use your own? The Puppy Power store on ebay looks great. ETA your "noodle" looks gorgeous!!
  23. Thanks - that's given me quite a bit to get going. Very helpful
  24. I've been on the look out for books we can read prior to getting a puppy. From this site, I learnt about the Ian Dunbar books. Our local library has "Before and After you get your Puppy" so will borrow that one. Are there any others that people have found useful? We are getting a pup as a pet and will probably also do obedience classes (join a club?) too. In relation to training, I am more inclined to the newer techniques I've seen a bit about as opposed to traditional methods. I've done quite a bit of Natural Horsemanship with my horse and have found it to work for both of us really well. Grateful for any suggestions - thanks
