Delta Society Policy On Raw Feeding
Tintin Jac replied to Tintin Jac's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just to clarify...my understanding is that it is a policy of the Delta Society in the USA. For now, Australia doesn't seem to have the same policy. -
Delta Society Policy On Raw Feeding
Tintin Jac replied to Tintin Jac's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I thought it sounded a bit odd but thought that I must be missing something really obvious. I am not a scientist and am quite prepared to be educated on this. But I did wonder how a dog fed a raw diet can be any more dangerous than one which licks the ground, other animals poop, other animals butts etc etc. I did notice that their major sponsor is a dry food company. Surely they wouldn't sell out like that though? -
Is anyone familiar with the reasons behind the Delta Society's new policy on Raw Protein Diets? I am not that familiar with any research stating that nasty pathogens are released by dogs fed a raw diet. Please help. Thanks.

This may have been posted before...I couldn't find it but it might be here somewhere. Anyway, here it is for those of you who need some lighthearted entertainment.

People Copying Word For Word From Your Website
Tintin Jac replied to ozmalinois's topic in General Dog Discussion
So do I. Their (puppy buyers) names (if legit) are mentioned on the website. Weird. I would be peeved if I had put a deposit on a pup and my name was then put on the breeders website next the said pup. -
Yes...but you might be surprised. Comments made on DOL were referred to in the article. I do agree though, direct to the source is better.

If you click on "Making Oodles" on the original link, it takes you to the full article. Or Making Oodles. Sorry, I don't know how to copy the article here. Interesting reading.

The lagotto may well suit this family... They are often (but not always) suitable for people with allergies to other dogs they are a good sized medium dog - between a mini and standard poodle ours has loads of energy but is also happy not doing much at all. His zoomies still make me laugh. ours is easy to train - quick to learn and super eager to please - but you need to make sure that the breeder has started them off well ours is very good with our kids (2, 5 & 14). Tintin and our 2yo are inseperable. We will definitely be getting another one. Love them

I had the same issue. I contacted the manufacturer and they advised to reconstitute in warm water. On the small pack, it says to reconstitute in cold water...on the large pack, it says to use warm water. I guess you'd have to be careful that the water wasn't so warm that it "cooked" the food. If I break up the chunky bits with a fork and use slightly warm water, it seems to absorb the water pretty well. Although Tintin goes bonkers while he is waiting for it to be ready as he can smell it. Poor bloke

Love it (well, I haven't actually tried it but you get the idea)! I feed raw as well. It's pretty pricey but gets hoovered down in no time, which makes a welcome change. I am now really happy with Tintin's diet. No more fiddling...for now. Am hoping that they bring in the other varieties soon.

Thank you

Clyde, do you have a link?

You poor things. You don't need any more doggy dramas! I have avoided ox tails because I thought they looked like the perfect shape/size to get stuck in Tintin's throught. Someone mentioned that the whole ones would be OK...don't they still have the vertibrae bits which can break off into swallowable pieces? He is fine on whole chicken carcasses. I've been avoiding weight bearing bones of larger animals. Necks seem to be fine. Lamb necks and beef necks seem good. Although the beef necks are huge and very fleshy. I usually need to chuck them out b4 he's finished because when he wanders away, the flies arrive en masse...eeeewwww. Ribs also go down well. But I do worry about the pointy bits...I think I'm just being a worry wort though!

Hi and welcome! I'm not really able to help you. It sounds like it would be a bit annoying for you. Poor dog may just be feeling strange with the changes lately. Does it help for you to know that you're not the only one? Our old boy does go outside...but just outside the door, on the deck, where you step - ewww! He used to go somewhere private but now he doesn't really like to go outside at all. Except if it is about 20 degrees and he can find a nice spot in the sun. Otherwise, he just sleeps in Tintin's crate all day and occasionally wakes up for a cuddle. Poor old man. Hope someone can be more helpful for you.

Oscar, that is why I went for the K9 Natural. You can feed it exclusively or in combination with a raw diet. It is raw, freeze dried food. Well, so they say; it smells like roast lamb to me but is apparently raw. The end result for us so far has been very positive. Good luck. It can be really hard to work out what is best for your dog/s and for you too.

Isn't chicken meal and salmon meal just squished whole chickens and whole salmon?

My 1 yo had been on Artemis since we had him until a week or so ago. The ingredients look good and I know that ther are dogs that do really well on it but I have just changed from it. Tintin wasn't ever really interested in eating it unless it had added flavour - sardines, yoghurt etc. He also had poo which wasn't very nice...not that any poo is "nice" but you get the picture. I have been researching raw for a bit and then heard about K9 Natural at the local pet supply store. I bought a small pack and he devours it in a matter of seconds. I also feed him some other raw food and rmb. His stools are now the sort that go white and crumbly in a few hours. So, for us, unfortunately, Artemis wasn't great and I am very happy (so far!) that I changed his diet. Wish I had done it sooner. It is still to early to be able to tell how he will go, long term, on his new diet.

That's a great shot. They look very organised. As if they discussed where they would each plonk.

I just bought a bag of this food and have a couple of questions. I can wait and send a question off to K9 Natural tomorrow...but I am an impatient girl. On the pack, it says that it is freeze dried raw food. But, it smells like roast lamb. Nothing wrong with that - it actually smells like human food - but roast lamb is, well, roasted. Is that just a result of freeze drying the food? Seems odd. Also, I found that I had to break up the little bullets for it to rehydrate. Otherwise, the bullets just sit in the water. Has anyone else experienced this? On a positive note, it gets scoffed down in a matter of seconds. Tintin would usually take forever to get through his meals. I thought he just wasn't particularly interested in food. But maybe he wasn't interested in the food I was providing. Now I feel bad for feeding him something he didn't like I hope the K9 Natural is successful here and they bring out the other flavours and even the frozen food. I guess there may be importation problems with that though. Edited for spelling

We have a 14 month old brown roan lagotto. He is a very intelligent dog who learns very quickly and seems to love making us laugh. He is pretty active but is also happy snoozing a lot. He loves being close to people and always wants to be the centre of attention. He still does zoomies around the backyard every night which is very funny to watch. He is not very high maintenance in the grooming department, although, he is a pet and not a show dog. We just have him clipped every few months and brush a little in between. We are looking forward to adding to our lagotto family in the next year or so

Thank you all very much for your tips and for pointing me in the right direction. Unfortunately, they have bought a puppy. I suspect it is from a puppy farmer. The breeder met them while they were on their way home from a trip with the pup. No photos or info on parents. Puppy is from a breeder in Heyfield Vic. On a positive note, puppy seems nice enough and has settled in well. I hope it stays that way.

How terribly sad. Poor Rocco. He knew that you adored him. Just look at that face It must feel quite strange knowing that so many people "know" and loved your gorgeous boy. I, for one, absolutely loved seeing what you three were up to and what crazy outfit Rocco was patiently wearing. Your tribute had me in tears and laughing out loud. He was definitely one of a kind. Thinking of you. Hugs.

I am sure there are several threads about talking to friends who are looking at buying from a breeder who isn't registered...but I can't find any. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I have tried the search engine but no luck. Thanks
