  2. Can you elaborate a little please Paulni? Sorry ment to post a link , well was early in the morning http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/176904/dog-attack-puts-boy-hospital
  3. Well its election year, How long before our politicians jump on the band wagon. Interesting how the dog in question was so large they needed help to handle it . Pure PB just aren't that big hmmm , like to see a photo of Dog in question
  4. There must be more Urban myths about Fila than any other breed out there. I never had a problem with mine on or of the property. Guess why , because i raised and socialized them like a normal Dog . Didn't keep them hidden away from strangers when pups like a lot of Brazilians do.
  5. I'm just pleased I don't live in Australia . Makes me wonder if the powers that be here in NZ will try and follow all this BS
  6. Still calling the Dog in question a Pit bull I see.
  7. HMMM no way is it a APBT at 56kg .
  8. does it matter ? the poor woman is dead and possibly killed by one of the family pets. It matters a great deal to other APBT owners and there dogs if as usual the breed is being wrongly accused . The owner has said what breed his dogs were and not to blame the breed. Read the articles Yes but this is America were they have rather broad idea of what a pit bull is .

  10. So have we seen a photo of the dogs?
  11. Excellent photos thanks for posting. Looks like a good turnout despite the weather
  12. Well it certainly seems like an anti Fila campaign What I would like to see is the statistics that show all these people being attacked by Fila's. The breed is not uncommon in the USA or Europe, but I haven't seen or heard of many attacks. I think it is worth remembering that a lot of information put out by breeders and clubs in nothing more than hype to sell pups
  13. I think the thing to remember here is who wrote the breed standard and how they raise there dogs. The Brazilians want there dogs to guard and in a lot of cases need them to. The dogs are raised with no socialization at all,in fact the pups are deliberately kept away from strangers. The only people who have contact with them are the immediate family and friends. Raised in this manner of cause they won't allow them selves to be handled by strangers. When raised with proper socialization they will except strangers and will allow judges to handle them just like any other breed. The dogs are regularly shown in Europe and USA and are handled in the normal manner. Having lived with Fila's for many years I guess it would be fair to say unlike most of the posters here i do have extensive first hand experience with them. They have not been involved in a single attack here in my home country and you will struggle to find a single owner anywhere that has been attacked by there own dog. This is not the case with most of the guardian breeds that often have dominance problems. I remember reading a story about an early German import into the USA of another well known breed not a Fila The dog became a champion even with several missing teeth, because the judges had never dared look into his mouth. The dogs progeny raised in the normal manner were all perfectly behaved in the show ring.
  14. I came across this site by accident, you may have seen it already. But if not you may find it of some use. http://dogbitesinformationandstatistics.blogspot.com/
  15. any breed can be DA, and any breed may have a HA dog... there's no need to punish an entire breed over one having HA. if you were to murder someone, should humans be put to death because we are all 'capable' of murder? furthermore, i believe that with responsible ownership there is nothing wrong with owning a DA dog. take a look at all breeds, and the ones on the list aren't the only DA breeds... in fact, there are more bites from dogs who are NOT on the list, than by those that are... and i forgot to add, ALL breeds can be DA...its not a breed specific thing. I agree with you Lisa but I would like to know what breeds Sandgrubber referred to when He said '' when breeds that have a history of problems'' As you indicated it is not a breed thing
  16. So far as I'm concerned the specifics are clear. BSL will be unnecessary when [and only when] breeds that have a history of problems are selectively bred NOT to be dog or human aggressive and an ethic arises among people owning and perpetuating the breed that promotes responsible dogs who will not attack people or dogs. FULL STOP. What breeds would that be then??
  17. Thanks for the replies, $100 for 20kg which is less than most imported dry food
