  1. There is someone around town who breeds purebred dogs but doesnt have a prefix but they health test all there dogs. There dogs are from registered parents these people dont show but from what I know about them the dogs are just loved pets. I would never support just breeding there pets but they seem to be doing the right thing by health testing. There really is no point in attacking the op. Whats done is done.
  2. What date is the show? Only show I can get to this year
  3. Did you mean the Maffra show grounds? There still held there.
  4. Looks like I'll be scratching all my goals instead just looking for a house where I can have Toby with me and then working on oh to get a puppy lol
  5. Congrats everyone I need to stop coming in here especially hearing so much about the agility nationals and rally o it just makes me wish I had my own trialing dog
  6. Bomber my lab was 14 when was pts because of cancer and heart failure 3 or 4 years ago. Goregous boy he was and is still very missed
  7. Ive grown up with labs and my golden boy but I want to try and own as many different breeds as possible just to make life interesting :) I'm hoping we get a house at the end of the year so I can convince oh to get another dog but I told him he can choose the breed so might end up with a sibe or great Dane lpl
  8. Think i've already achived one of my goals
  9. She's a 7 month old Border Collie and pulls when out for a walk, shes had the basic training but i've never really had a puller like this so not sure how to train her to stop.
  10. As the title says whats some methods with getting her to stop pulling on the lead?
  11. I'll be there tomorrow for a look see :D Me and the bf are hopeing to find a breed we both like.
  12. Lakes Entrance would be very busy at this time to, I was there for new years and the place was packed, it is a really nice place but would be better for dogs in off season.
  13. There was an endurance test in Sale last year, not sure about how many there was though.
  14. I admit the problems are mostly mine ie what I have trouble dealing with or not suited to my lifestyle and what I want to do by way of dog sports. I do love whippets for more than their good looks but not sure if they are robust enough for life with me. And I'm not sure how much they enjoy precision dog training eg agilty (I know some do agilty with them) but they are lovely schmoozers. My friend's pair have major health problems at the moment with stiff joints and strange lump things (cancers/cysts/fatty lumps) but they are both quite old so I guess that's fair enough. Whippets are more of a sprint dog and less of an endurance dog and I'm more of a plodder and less of a sprinter - which isn't a problem for the whippet of course. They may be an option for my next dog when I decide 22kg (current dog) is too heavy for me to lift. I don't know what frail people do when their big dog needs help getting into the car for whatever reason. Sorry to digress. I also think Pharoah hounds are gorgeous but not sure if I'd have the patience to train them. Weeellllll I am thinking that you may just have the wrong end of the stick :D Could your dog hit something solid at top speed sommersault get up and after a few minutes, act like it never happened? Could they sommersault over each or when trying to get a ball and not even miss a beat? My Dobes wouldn't have. When myself and a couple of friends have our dogs out together very occassionally such things happen - well if you run into a GR she isn't going to move! They just about have a heart attack and comment how their dogs wouldn't get up if they did the same thing. Rommi went to her first trials and gained a pass in JD and AD with a novice handler, Lewis was close but a small error once on his behalf, once on mine, cost him a pass at his first trials. They also do very well in obedience and do some very prcises work. Lewis just gained his CCD with a 97, 91 (the day after his ET) and a 97 - two first places. I am sorry your friend is having health issues with her Whippets I know a few and it is rare for them to have any major health issues. Rommi is more of a sprint dog but can also go on a 10km walk without any issues. Lewis is more an obedience dog and gained and trained for his ET easily. So yes many Whippets are more a sprint dog, but you can certainly get others who have more endurance. Anyway sorry about going OT but I had to clear those things up :D Stop making me want a Whippet I dont know if there still competeing but there were a couple of Whippets in Vic with there UD and ET titles. Lab Golden Aussie Britney Vizsla Im a little biased with the first two but the other 3 I could easily own
  15. Thanks everyone loving all these suggestions Will be looking at all these books and dvds that have been mentioned. I already have The focused Puppy and loving it so far. She's not really into tugging yet but loves her food so that helps.
  16. Fly is a 7 month old Border Collie and I want to get into agility with her but not sure where to start. What are the basics that I should be teaching her?
  17. It's Newborough. I'll be there with two Aussies. Will try and get there
  18. He is way to cute to be trouble But that's prob what he wants you to think
  19. I cant find anywhere that says when the Melbourne Pet Expo is on so was wondering if anyone knows what the dates were?
  20. Well a Brittany pretty much ticks all the boxes :D OH is still pretty keen on a Husky but I really want something abit more trainable but he also doesnt want a real fluffy dog so I guess that cuts out alot of the other spitz breeds.
  21. Thanks Jumabaar, while I would like to do agility with this pup its not high on my list. I want a medium - large dog that is freindly to both people and dogs as well as other animals. Is active but calm in the house, not to much of a barker. Is easy to train ( for agility as well as being able to be let of the lead ) I dont mind a little grooming but nothing that requires a lot of clipping or trips to the groomer. Also a dog that is affeconate and loves to be with its owners.
