  1. Try a child safe gate at your front door, works for my mum and her dogs..
  2. My dogs go crazy for Devon plus it stinks, the smell of food is more appealling to dogs as they dont have many tatse buds
  3. Dogs are extremely selfish and will do absolutely nothing unless they benefit some how (never out of the kindness of their heart) but i doubt I'd pull someone aside in the park and explain this.
  4. Just curious if anyone knows what the stroy is with the sutherland shire councils rules on walking dogs of lead, because i'm almost certain its an offence but yet it doesnt matter which suburb your in, people are everywhere walking dogs off lead or dogs are roaming out the front of peoples houses. The part that gets me is when you see someone trying to walk their dog but are constantly being confronted with off lead dogs non of which the owner has any control of. I know some people who are frightened to walk their dogs incase this situation arises which i think is crap everyone should be able to put a lead on their dog and go for walk without forever worrying whats around the corner
  5. Its around $2500 plus travel expenses, no other certs are required.
  6. I have just finished the course, its the best thing I've done. The course content and assessments are full on but at the same time very enjoyable. It is expensive but money well spent i think. One of the reasons i loved it so much was that the NDTF dont tell you what techniques you must use when training dogs (unlike Delta) instead they show many different techniques some indusive and some compulsive and you can choose which techniques you will use when training dogs. I would highly recommend the cert3 to anyone..
  7. I pose a qeustion to anyone who claims they are purely positive trainers , How do you communicate to the dog that its behaviour is undesiralde / unwanted without the use of punishers?
  8. At the end of the day, indusive training methods will work on wide variety of skills / behaviour problems but without reliability and this is what i find disturbing because, i feel that clients are misled into believing that their dog is trained to react / behaviour in a certain way but the moment something better comes along the dog will not obey and will go after what it desires more e.g. will a dog remain in a sit ( for a liver treat ) when someone else is offering a t-bone?
  9. The bottom line is that there is no such thing as purely positive training, anyone that says that they are purely positive trainers just demonstrates either a lack of education or not quite telling the truth. the use of sin bins, withholding of treats etc. are all forms of negative punishment.
