  1. Great info on these links! have bookmarked this site for future ref!
  2. Best of luck LauraJane! I hope all goes well and you find a treatment plan that works
  3. It's really timely that I happened to come across this post! (one of the reasons I love this forum so much!).. I'm just about to take max to the vet to sort out an ongoing 'limp' he's had for 2 weeks now. It only happens at night or when he's been (lightly) walked. He's 5 and half months. I was going to ask the Vet for X-rays to start with but now I'll make sure I investigate it further if the vet can't seem to find anything from looking at the X rays.
  4. Thought I'd ask if anyone else is having this issue with their little lovable monsters out there. Max (aka little monster) always has to 'crack it' whenever he notices Stella playing with a toy...any toy...it doesn't matter...what she has ..he wants! If I don't intervene it escalates into a frenzied scrap as a result lately around here there have been no games with balls or toys or ropes or anything which is sad for her when she brings me her toys and looks at me as if to say 'wanna play'? Sometimes I've resorted to putting him inside while I play with her down the back in peace! Anyone have any suggestions on how to better handle this kind of thing? He's getting desexed tomorrow (5.5 mths) so I'm hoping this might settle down some of these possessive tendencies?
  5. Too funny!! :p Stella's feet are musky and Max's feet are sweaty smelling.. I definately prefer Stella's!!
  6. I feed tha same as you do but I also feed EP I forgot to mention that!! I feed EP - a handful in the morning each - apart from all the raw food which some may say contradicts the philosophy of feeding raw because dry food is cooked but i find that their condition is better when I add this in. They both have really shiny coats and beautiful sparkly teeth and most of all - they look happy and fit! I also find with RAw feeding, they don't need to eat much and they pooh much much less - food is more easily digested, meaning there's less for me to clean up every few days!! woohoo!
  7. I'm thinking it's something he'll grow out of but he is about to visit the Vet this weekend to be desexed so I'll make sure I ask him to give him a full check over to make sure it isn't his glands or anything else - I doubt it is his glands - once you've smelled the smell of them being expressed (our vet used to do it for our last dog when she was old and infirm) it's not a smell that is easily forgotton!!
  8. How very exciting!! Have you thought of getting a boy this time, pairs of dogs I've known seem much happier when kept in opposite sex pairs.
  9. Just dunk them in white vinegar ,just buy the cheapie stuff dilute & dunk feet. Dogs can also suffer from Tinea lick us because they lick & lick there feet that they stay so moist they pong. Dogs cool from there feet thats why if ther hot they will stand in the water to cool Interesting! Thanks I'll try this!
  10. Is Frank desexed? Is he going in the same place or different places? I've had the issue where Max is doing it near the back door right in front of the doggie door rather than go outside through the dog door which is equally frustrating!
  11. I'm interested in your reply...it's definately not anal glands as I know they have a VERY distinctive smell and with all the bones he eats his pooh is white and hard a lot of the time so he would have to be emptying them by default I would have thought! Why do dogs get sweaty feet? They do have a bit of a sweaty smell coming from them now that I smell them...and how about the baby teeth? These have all come out at the front and his adult set are growing through but the side teeth are very loose - do these start to rot ?
  12. He is on a raw diet, no grain and a small amount of vegetable pulp, some offal, sardines and yoghurt occasionally. Stella is on the same diet and she is in great health. I've checked his feet - they're ok. I think he must pee on himself by accident ... I've seen him pee and walk at the same time so maybe that's it. He is also getting in under the house where its really dirty so I think it's a combination of dirt, pee, baby teeth coming out etc. I'll keep an eye on it, thanks for your replies. I wanted to know if there was something I was overlooking on this..
  13. I have seen him squat and pee then he gets distracted and decides to sit on the spot - right in it...so 'yes' at times it is like urine. I've just checked in his mouth again and he has many of his adult teeth that have just broken through the surface..sometimes there is a faint odor.... maybe it's just a combination of things accumulating ?
  14. My Staffords get Flaxseed Oil.. If I notice one getting itchy or dry I switch them to the Vets all natural 'omega blend' and this clears it back up in no time. Make sure you use good quality oils. v important.
  15. Hi There, Max is and has always been a little smelly boy! He's 5 months now, still stinky.... Stella is a perfumed rose next to him. Both get bathed about once a month sometimes less depending on how dirty they get, I try to just wet towel them to prevent 'over washing' them and stripping the oils out of their coat. Why does he smell? Is it a smelly boy thing? (sorry guys!) (no offense!).. I've tried working out where the smell comes from, it's not in his ears or mouth or near any particular part of his body, his coat is shiny and smooth. The smell is a mix between dirty socks and bad breath..not pleasant! and definately not the kind of smell that makes you want to ask him for a kiss! More and more people are calling him 'stinkypants'... :-( Any idea's why the stink?
  16. I tend to find swimming with the dog in pools and beaches a bit of a headache. As your dog has already had that one panic, she will probably try and climb all over you and scratch you to pieces. This is what they do. Plus they have to keep moving in the water, so, you will hav to keep moving also to avoid her trying to climb on you like a rock. If it was me, I would take your little girl along to a dog pool, and let her learn this way. I am sure, given the calm opportunity she will be fine. You will get to see exactly how she is going better if you are not in there with her, and she will not be clinging to you. she will learn to be a confident and independant swimmer in no time. I have always swum my dogs at dog pools. It is great and they love it. All different breeds over the years. Personally, I would skip the life jacket. They can set the dog in the water at an unnatural balance (depending on the jacket and fit), and they just teach the dog to rely on the jacket. Pools are safe and supervised. The people there will help you if you need assistance. Just MHO Thanks for that, i found out yesterday that getting in the water at the beach with Stella might not have been such a good idea when she just about tore strips off my legs trying to climb up me! I think she was trying to climb up me like I was a rock!!! So, you said it! She did it! It is now a job for the pool manager at Woofpurney, he was very helpful and funnily enough the second time I took Stella there she was a little better. I will be taking some pictures this week when we go on Friday to show you all.
  17. your poor dog..sorry to hear this has happened. It's just awful and very sad, I know never to buy one of these for my dogs ever!
  18. Same with my dog Tilly... She loves swimming, but she also tends to swallow a lot of salt water too. On one car ride, when I got home and opened the back door of the car to let the dogs out, I got a lovely surprise and saw that Tilly and thrown up big time, but she must have intentionally done it all on one of the old towels I had used to dry her off after her swim. So luckily my clever little pup didn't make a mess of my car, I just took the towel and put it in the bin! oh blerrrrk! I know what that's like, Stella used to get car sick and one day spewed all over the backseat, the next day I had to take clients out and they kept sniffing in the end I told them it wasn't the car, just one car sick dog!
  19. glad to hear there are some dogs that love it so much!
  20. Thanks, she has a rubber chicken! so maybe I'll bring that along and see if that helps her! What a funny photo that would make - a staffy swimming with a lifejacket and a rubber chicken in her mouth
  21. Max is 5 months on Monday and I will be booking him in to be desexed within the next two weeks...so no more jiggly dangly bits for Mr Max!!
  22. Oh My God! Those photo's are amazing! He seemed to be doing really well!!Why is it his first and last time? They say that it can take up to 4 or 5 swims in a dog pool with a lifejacket to learn that they can actually do it and be confident to try it without the jacket. We just got back from the dog pool now for Stella's second lesson - she was marginally better. She keeps wanting to bite the lead and hold it in her mouth, it seems to help her relax a bit.
