Besides the dog swimmng pool at The Pet Park at Edinburgh does anyone know if there are any other dog swimming pools in Adelaide? The Pet Park pool looks good but it is an hour and a half away. I am looking for something closer prererably in the southern area. Thanks

OMG poor Rocky and your poor poor Aunt having to witness that and not be able to do anything to stop it. I really hope the council tracks down the stupid irresponsible owner and makes them accountable. Big hugs to your aunt. RIP Rocky

Try turkey necks as they are much bigger My boy loves them. Artemis Maximal is grain free and doesn't have any nasty preservatives or chemicals and it also has fruit and vegetables. It is very high (42%) in protein so is not recommended for young growing dogs which is why I waited until Kynan was 20 months old before changing to it.

Hi Coupedash, Hope your boy's legs get better soon! My GSD boy was limping at about the same age and i took him to see a doggie chiro which i recommend you do too for a second opinion. Also have you checked the condition of your boy's foot pads? My boy's pads took a while to harden up when we first started to go on longer walks and he got worn patches which caused him to limp and lag behind. Friars Balsalm painted on once a week has toughened them up and no more limping! Such a simple and obvious thing that both the vet and chiro missed. Also my boy is is greatly oversized at 72 cm and weighs 37kg and is 21 months old and lean. At 9 months he weighed 34kg. As others have suggested i think that you should try and get your boy's weight down a few kg at least until he has finished growing. Eta Kynan was fed RC GSD puppy until 9 months and then we switched to the adult one but i now wish i had done that at 6 months. Last month i switched him over to Artemis Maximal.

Feisty Fido was published in 2003 and Other End of the Leash in 2002 which i am now reading after being impressed with Feisty Fido. Have not got far so not sure if there is any doubling up of info but will let you know.

Well done Pearl and WG! I am going to do it next year with my boy. Went and watched the start of the Adelaide ET this morning to see how it is run and pick up a few tips. Left after the first break and everyone (about 16) was going strong.

At the moment i am reading "Feisty Fido: Help For the Leash Aggressive Dog" by Patricia McConnell and Karen London. It is only 60 pages long but is packed with very useful and practical advice and is easy and quick to read. Other great books are "Click to Calm" and "Control Unleashed". An assessment by a reputable canine behaviourist is a good idea and people on here can give you the names of some near you.

My boy had a similar reaction to his first kennel cough nasal spray. That night he got all snuffly and was so miserable for about 24 hours. I rang the vet the next morning and they said it was a normal common reaction. If your pup is not better after 24 hours i would be seeing a vet.

"new" Dry Foods At Our Local Pet Food Place
Kynan replied to Katdogs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Independent dog food reviews and ingredient analysis can be found at www.dogfoodanalysis.com Very interesting and eye opening! -
Yes i was there! It was very well run and Debbie is a great speaker. I found it was very much aimed at vets and vet nurses but as a pet owner i did find it of some value. I couldnt help myself and bought a book!

Hi ness! We saw him in March too so almost due to see him again! My boy is a big boy and a bit clumsy so needs to have his spine and hips adjusted regularly. He always moves so much better after a treatment!

Dr Matt Condon at Chiropet (www.chiropet.com.au) is fantastic! He is a vet, chiro and acupunturist. Matt is great with animals very gentle and caring . I too am down south but it is well worth the 1 hour drive to Albert Park! I take my boy every 3 months for a once over.

My work roster just came out for next week. I usually only work 9-5 but would you believe they have put me on a 3-11pm for next Fri night when the first seminar is on? Lucky my OH works at the same place as me and we can swap shifts so I can work a day shift! Phew! -

Obedience Scent Discrimination And Tracking
Kynan replied to Kynan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Congratulations Natsu chan on gaining CCD I think you are right about the collars! Kynans tracking harness came in the post today and we did two short tracking training sessions with it on and did great! He is already dropping to indicate socks and so far no confusion. I think he is cleverer than i have been giving him credit for. -

Good point (i am such a newby but keen to learn) Regarding the method of indication for tracking someone in an old thread said not to use the retrieve. They said it saturates the dogs mouth and noise with the scent and makes it hard for them to resume tracking. Is this true?
