  1. A big whizzer should last a 5KG dog for hours, I dont think you would be dissapointed, my two Staffy's love them. Maybe just need to change your search terms in Google, try "bull chew" or "bull stick". My Staffy's know them as a "Pee Pee", but I wouldnt search on that.
  2. My girl is booked in for Stem Cell Treatment in December, I so hope the results are positive
  3. I gave up with bedding. My two get a folded up blanket for a base in the crate and then another on top of that they can wrap themselves in.
  4. The dog is only 12 months old, what is wrong with: We can desex him we can train him we can lock him in the backyard with no access to the front we can put our foot down and make sure he IS socialised properly Is he actually that far gone in your professional opinion he cant be saved with a bit of effort?

    Staffys Ear

But not always, one of my girls ears point the same way most of the time https://picasaweb.google.com/103245538223334501337/Dogs#5655882367654251074
  6. We are going to just eliminating all other possibilities. How did she recover from the operation? My girl had it done 3 years ago and she was doing well. She has recently started limping when first waking or getting up so I am going to request another specialist vet appointment, it may be the arthritis. After the operation I had to keep her quiet for 3-4 weeks, which is not easy with a Staffy, especially when I have two sisters. Up until the recent issues I mentioned she was doing really well. The problem with Staffy's is their pain threshold is so high the issue may be worse that it seems, it took me ages to convince my vet there was something wrong.
  7. See the specialist ASAP, the antique x-ray equipment the vet is using may not be able to pick up the real issue. This happened to me, I stuffed around for months wtih medication and vet x-rays, when I finally got referred to the specialist. The specialist x-ray picked up a bone fragemnt in her elbow right away and had it removed but it had gone on for too long and now she has arthritis in the joint as well
  8. I have been told the benefits for stem cell therapy for something such as arthrits are only seen for 6 months, then the dog reverts to the way it was prior to stem cell therapy, is this true?
  9. I’ve picked up three in the last 6 months: Number 1 - Beautiful Husky at Strathmore Station Car Park, everyone walked straight past her, but she was extremely friendly. I managed to get her in the back seat of the car and drove her to my vet, plenty of face licks. Ended up the owners didnt want her so just let her out, I think she went to Husky Rescue Victoria but not sure. I would have kept her but did not like the potential issues with my two female Staffy's. Number 2 - Labrador at Strathmore Station, again no issues capturing him, took him to my vets as well. Number 3 - Just last week, a pointer walking along a main road walked past me with a guy behind him, looked a bit suss to me so I kept an eye on them. Guy walks into a house and the dog keeps going, by this time I was half a block away so had to run after the dog. When I was close enough I got down on one knee and called him, he ran straight up to me. Luckily a lady was nice enough to lend me a lead for the 2km walk to my vets. I think my vet is getting sick of me. I can’t walk past a stray dog, but there has also been a few I haven’t been able to catch or continuing the pursuit would have been more danger for the dog than me backing off.
  10. It could also be food related, I have two Staffy's that are alergic to beef, which seems to be a common issue with Staffies. They dont get skin reactions but do reverse sneeze constantly. My two get washed with Malseb which seems to be fine. Also look out for paw licking and ear scratcing, which I have a few issues with, but this seems to be more plant \ pollon related than food related.
  11. so that makes Pet Rescue a puppy farm? Perhaps if all good breeders advertised there too it would make a difference and effect the business off the unethical breeders that advertise there. Not saying that PetRescue is a puppy farm at all, sorry if I worded my post incorrectly and made you come to that conclusion. Just questioning the motives of the Trading Post to be honest and the benefits of a Rescue Promoting a media that does nothing to stop puppy farming (as far as I know, I could be totally wrong). I think if the Trading Post only accepted rescue and registered breeders I would not be so sceptical. Im just asking the question, I guess there is benefit in promoting rescue in the same publication that promotes Labradoodles (do a search).
  12. I just have a question. I noticed on Facebook that PetRescue are happy that their dogs will now be advertised on the Trading Post web site. I always considered the Trading Post one of the main avenues puppy farmers use to dispose of their wares and a site to be avoided, am I incorrect in my thinking?
  13. I noticed what looked like a ridge in the third photo, I just thought it was an RR Cross, could just be my eyes. Whatever he is, love him, treat him well, lose the collar!
  14. You’re kidding me, I thought lashton was spot on, the any new person that comes to this forum is guaranteed abuse. The anonymity of a forum allows weak people a certain strength that they otherwise would not be able to express. If I had listened to people on this forum before I got good advice from one member, I would have given up one of my two puppy female Staffy littermates. Who know's where she would have ended up, possibly abused, cold and scared rather than the warm loving home she shares with her sister now. I was given advice according to breeders "best practice" from people with no idea who I am or who my dogs are. I do understand why I was given this advice, but you need to think outside your own little worlds when giving advice. A classic example http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/129227-cant-wait/page__p__2469201__fromsearch__1#entry2469201 , scroll down to my post. Forcing people away from this forum will not reduce the number of rescue dogs it will increase it. If you educate one person through thoughtful and good advice, this will be passed on to others, if you alienate them the number of people getting the message is exponentially reduced.
  15. One of my Staffy's had a limp on and off when she was 8 months old. I took her to the vet, but because she was excited she didnt show any signs. After a couple of visits I asked for an x-ray, which didnt show anything. I was eventually referred to a speacialist who had better equipment, an x-ray clearly showed a bone fragment in her elbow which was operated on and removed. Although my situation is not exactly the same, just pointing out how x-rays may not be definitive. Because it took us a couple of months to pick up the problem my girl now suffers from arthritis.
  16. I totally agree with you, I have the same issue at Cross Keys reserve in Essendon. I walk my two Staffy's, one can be a little aggressive and the other extremely submissive, but trying to control two on lead Staffy's while three or four off lead dogs gather around them is a nightmare. One guy on the street had the nerve to have a go at me when his dog approached mine, head down, tail upright, when I yelled at it and held it back, while holding two Staffy's with my other hand. Sorry, your post struck a nerve and I had to have my rant to agree with you. If a dog has no recall don’t let them off lead FFS, is it that hard a concept for people to understand.
  17. I totally disgree the OP has an issue with price, I dont think there is any harm in knowing you are not getting ripped off. Some people on this forum may have plenty to throw around but I know I dont. Have you thought of just getting a Rescue Dog, you would get out of it cheaper and save a life. The unkown may be the temprament which could be an issue.
  18. I am not a dog expert but I have had two female Staffy littermates for 3.5 years now with no major issues in regards to aggression so far. I am hoping they are different enough to get along, one likes her food, and the other doesn’t care so much. If Tippi takes her bone she will let her them come to me and let me know. However, after my experiences I don’t recommend two pups at the same time, for one it is so much hard work. Some things are made easier, such as I had no issues when leaving them for work, or leaving them to go to bed, because they had each other. Staffy's are known to like escaping, but mine don’t even think about it. You will need to work hard separating them for long periods of time, I didn’t do this enough when they were young. Having been through it, I would never do it again.
  19. Are they really Staffy Proof? Is Ruby a big on chewing things? The only toys I have found my two cant destroy are Huck and Hurley, but they are a bit boring and they would love the toys you bought for girl. My Staffies make it their job to destroy a toy in the quickest time possible.
  20. It’s such a hard situation. One of my Staffy girl's cost me thousands in Vet Bills the first 12 months we had her, I even got a hamper from the Vet the first Christmas for being a great customer. During this time I was asked if I was disappointed I didn’t choose one of the other pups from the litter and maybe wouldn’t have so many issues ( I actually took 2 from the same litter and have no medical issues with the other one). My answer is no, I am so glad I have Zena, the thought of her being with someone who doesn’t have the money or patience to get her issues resolved and possibly having to suffer in so much pain, kills me. She is the most special girl, the best temperament you could imagine, I am so glad she found me to look after her. Even if the dog doesn’t end up having HD problems, can you live with the knowledge of your Lab going back and possibly having to suffer at the hands of someone less loving than your family? Personally I could not have sent my girls back; I had bonded with them in one week so much more than I thought I would have. (My early posts relate to having two female Staffy's, the general advice here was to send one back) It sounds like you are going to the right lengths to make an informed decision, sometimes you just need to go with your heart, which is what I did and so far so good. Best of luck for yourselves and the pup whichever way it goes.
  21. I mentioned in another thread that one of my Staffies sometimes thinks the moon is a hot air baloon and gets frightened, so the torch on the roof could represent something the dog is scared of, or could be totally random.
  22. I may be totally off track, could he think the moon is a hot air balloon? One of my Staffies is terrified of Hot Air Balloons ever since one nearly crash landed on our house. Now, apart from not going outside in the mornings, she occasionally thinks the moon is a hot air balloon.
  23. I am no expert, just the owner of a Staffy who has ear problems often. I find she may scratch the outer of her ear simply because thats in the general area, same as scratching under the ear, she is just trying to get to the irritation the best she knows how. The last time she scratched the flap (or whatever its called) so much it was red, but the infection was deep in her ear. Did the Vet say if it was a yeast infection, did they give a dermotic? I usally get a little white bottle with a green label.
  24. What previous breeds has your wife owned that she has not had reactions to?
  25. I buy the Orka which keeps my Staffies entertained for a couple of months. It does break up a bit but usually in small chunks. I have heard that Huck and Hurley are Staffy proof but I havent tried them, although I dont think anything is Staffy proof. Rope toys for mine are useless, they pick at the same spot until they unravel it, even with the biggest ropies it is usually an hour or two before they are destroyed. I bought the Staffy Ball but they had no interest in it at all.
