  1. Our blades are sharpened yearly ,you also should be replacing the tongue on the clippers yearly . We also unscrew the clippers heads on ours & give them a cllean out of hair that builds up Washing the blades is also important . If you have only been using the one blade for all these years you have been lucky . Hard to say what the issue is
  2. The exact reason we tell our puppy owners not to attend puppy pre school Unless it is run by an actual trainer with knowledge ,we recommend a puppy class run privately where the complete opposite is taught . Plus 1.5 hrs is crazy for any puppy most are over it in 30 mins . Often there held in small rooms & its like cabin fever ,to much invading personal space . Its sad these classes have become such a fad with vets as money grabbers but most teach worse manners & the owners are left with training out all the bad things when older . I would just wait & go to a good obedience class
  3. Was the litter tested for hearing ??
  4. Yes, also he started getting diarrhea. The vet said it happens often to older dogs and nothing really can be done. I would tend to disagree with the vet ,not one of our oldies has got the runs due to age BUT all have access outside 24/7 so they don't have to worry about hanging on & getting stressed . The runs would be more a case of the dog knowing its not allowed to soil inside but can no longer hold in that long . There is no guarantee he will use the inside loo or that he will feel relaced in doing so ,teaching a very clean dog to do the exact opposite its trained to do in old age is very hard
  5. Alot of people in the dog show community are affected & have evacuated
  6. Personally i would find a new vet . Does the dog have bad tonsils?? What did the breeder say/suggest. The vomiting part isn't what i would consider normal Not eating bones wouldn't be an issue for me many don't & we don't feed them , Is he active?? Is he feed the same time every day ,does he eat more at a set time .
  7. Judges will be forgiving within reason PROVIDING they can see a reason for doing it differently .if it doesn't work that way yes he will be penalized . Also keep in mind some may ask the the dog to stand on the table . With mouthing he will need to practice having the lead coiled in his hand & showing the mouth to the judges vision , Also don't forget to work on T,reverse triangles as many dogs don't like walking on the wrong side . If the dog isn't ready to do the exercises for him in the ring i would tread carefully
  8. Given your pup is an American Bulldog i would be training for outside unless your going to provide a big tray inside for his piddles as he gets older
  9. For starters stop sitting on him ,that is not alpha nor will it teach him anything . Holding his snout ,laying on him & sitting on him also means nothing to your leadership role & to be honest a very odd thing to do with a dog . Respect is earn't by both parties I would suggest you contact Jen Lawrence who does training on Thursday nights she is a Mally owner/breeder http://www.wolfproud.com/40/obedience-training/
  10. We don't do breeders terms with pet owners . All our bitches still play & would feed our pups till 8 weeks ,we don't wean them off as such but they are feed early on . I don't think you can committ to a time frame each litter & bitch is different ,if i was to say up to then up to 7 weeks & i guess that would depend on whether new owners wish to meet the mother etc etc or what arrangements you wish to make
  11. Agree vet visit just to rule out any nasties . There are varying options from Sudafed to meds,
  12. Nope because i own the breed for what it offers . I have never been one to compare my dogs because that isn't fair each one is different & irreplaceable
  13. I don't think it will matter either way but there are plenty of Britt breeders who breed dogs competing very successfully in dog sports so if thats what your wanting then talk with those breeders .They will also be able to assist in selecting a pup that will suit what you are wanting .
  14. Our pups are taught the complete opposite ,penning is for sleeping . Our pups are allowed to follow us around & soon learn this isn't fun & that going off on there own is great & infact we have never had an issue with then placing back in pen if required. Allowing them to experience there new world is a must at this age & afcourse your pup will be needy but its up to you to teach it independence . Our pups have the doggy door or we leave a door open they freely come & go as required & will cheerfully run back inside evry so often to see if where here & then they will go off again or sleep ,if its near there bedtime then in the pen they go but they need to go and use there senses & enjoy life Your pup is totally reliant on you whilst in the pen which is teaching it to be needy & a pen all day is a very boring world . We have also never been into bribery or treats & we don't suggest our puppy owners do that either as it becomes a routine . If the dog has properly diagnosed issues then thats a different ball game but the more you fuss now the bigger issues you will create & the harder you make it the better prepared you must be to win the battle & many people make a simple job very hard . Some pups can be more needy as can some breeds
  15. Your brave having this breed & a 4 ft fence .I would seriously looking at options for keeping it in . We board a number of American Bulldogs & they are big power dogs that will clear a 4 ft fence easily & the more it can view on the other side the more issues you may * i stress you may have As for the kids lock the gate ,what parents let kids that age just go into someone else yard anyway . Your pup is going to be big in no time so you seriously need to address the kids coming in now We're also careful not to take him on street walks on these days as I've been told that walking them as their main exercise will cause them to escape, I don't want him to associate alone time with leaving the house so we play in the backyard for at least an hour instead and do leash training. This isn't true but a bored dog will look to escape a backyard becomes boring very quickly . if pup has had all its jabs then a short walk outside will not make it won't to leave .
  16. We where all first timers once & i think many forget that BUT by the same token i think many of us grew up in an era where breeding was taken more seriously ,we learnt,we talked & we did the hardwork, There are those same people out there & i guess its up to the breeders to source the good & bad . We get aot of stud emails & 99% have no clue at all, don't even now the breed should be health tested,We have a breed highly sort after by pet shops,BYB & cross breeders so we are very strict on who we say yes to & all our puppies are spayed because the sad reality is trusting people in our breed is very hard & we are seeing alot of awful specimens being breed & sold to poor unsuspecting people . If they tick all the boxes sure & yes our dogs have been used but its not on the top of our list to have our dogs used alot just because
