  1. All our pups must be desexed, don't care about the science .Science doesn't prevent moron owners breeding there pet dogs & owning a breed highly sort after by BYB & DD breeders & exporting we will stick with desexing 100%
  2. Bowen is gentle & works wonders ,what people forget is the other parts of the body take on the pressure when the dog is down so it may not be the back but the neck/shoulders . The biggest thing is life needs to change & daily activities need to be factored as to what will /won't cause grief .Also getting the dog groomed more often can help . When my dachie went down in his back we did the myelogram path issue was the uni decided to do surgery without our permission dog walked in/couldn't walk out but after months of physio ,chiro & massage we got him back up. Supplement wise i would use arnica tablets & rub arnica/comfry gel on the back ,good horse places have the best gel
  3. This was on my wish list as a child for my showdog but they where not recognized here.
  4. I would not get another dog unless you want one & no guarantees she will accept a new dog or pup anyway . If your plan is to have another dog then i wouldn't rush out just to get her a mate . Her routine has changed big time even to he sleeping arrangements ,her pack leader is no longer there & she is now having to fend for herself without having the skills to do it . What is her hearing /eye sight like ??
  5. We have used Zrytec .claratyne, phenergen & a number of generic brands .Periactin we have used for appetite stimulant We board dogs & many vets now are prescribing anti histamines on a daily use for dogs with issues .The most common is Phenergan but it can make them drowsy . The dogs on these vary with issues ,some are highly reactive to stings & others just seasonal stuff ,some work better on some dogs & not others. The biggest issue ofcourse is what hes reacting to & whether a antihistamine will work but it won't hurt. Whilst you say no supplements there are some that can work very well & are cheap as chips ,we use a flax seed granule $8 a bag ,we have a number of clients also using it & found a massive difference with there itchy dogs .
  6. I trust my dogs in mine but they are hotter than wire crates so i rarely use them prefer the safety of the wire, ease of attaching the water bowl & the air flow is better
  7. I would be getting her back now ,she is still young & if this behaviour is so out of the nor it may simply not be a good match .
  8. Depends on the issue & how long between treatments or how long the issue has been there. If its a long term untreated issue yes there could be soreness, If my guys are sore they they recover quickly as i do a yearly maintenance plan . I pick afternoon appointments as it works in better for quiet time plus it makes my guys very sleepy but in the morning they will feel to good so i still limit there daily level. I do use arnica tablets if required & will give them a few days before . Mine go every 4/6 weeks . I also think the person doing the bowen also makes a big difference
  9. Yep use a chain ,lets face in those good old days you saw far more better behaved dogs . Now with obedience classes insisting on flat collars only we see via the kennels more people giving up walking there dogs because it isn't working the dogs are slipping out & there terrified it may happen out on walks * for many clubs these days its there way or no way Harness i totally hate especially when used on an untrained dog .
  10. This isn't your dog & you need to back off . Sadly now this dog is more confused & the howling may result in other neighbours complaining or it digging out on the wrong side or something awful happening .
  11. I would not recommend a Std Schnauzer unless you are prepared to do alot of work . They are wonderful dogs with the right owners who respect them as the working dog they are, trained correctly great dogs. Not trained they are nightmares & very quick to out smart there owners. Owning a Std is like owning a Dobe,Rotti .Powerful breed that must be well socialized & trained . They don't do well when bored . There is one breeder in Perth & she does show ,doesn't have litters often . The most important thing is a Std is a true working dog ,they are a dog that loves jobs & using there brain ,they are commonly referred to as the dog with the Human brain & this is so true .You can not compare the 3 sizes equally ,Stds aren't big Minis & require a different lifestyle, training & owners . Stds won't tolerate non sense though ,your kids are young & stds will challenge the owners & house members the leader of the pack role so everyone needs to be on the same page . I agree don't be fooled by the relatives well trained dog ,it seems they where the right owners for the breed who have trained there Std to be a good member in society As for dogs wandering any dog will ,no different than letting one of your kids loss as a youngster & expecting it to know the rules . Minis shouldn't be fiesty although Black/Silvers are tad more on there toes within the colour range but they are territorial .
  12. The Lab people in WA are very helpful & approachable . Have you been down to shows ?? Have you looked at joining the Lab club in WA ?? As for showing bringing out the nastiness ,dog showing isn't an elite group to this behavior ,it happens every day in all walks of lifes & situations . No sport or activity is immune to it
  13. Yes they are ,they are financially set up ,breeders are offered the dogs first (and are aware of this) next in line is friends who will be the caretakers, any we now won't cope are to be put down or any elderly or assessed as not suitable are also to be PTS . We are also the caretakers of friends dogs with the same guidelines . All parties are aware . Are dogs will only be left to people dedicated to the breed, aware of the care required or rehomed with the assistance of there breeders . Not left to family . It needs to be changed often & ideally you should keep a folder of each dog ,details & any medical issues /vet .
  14. I did agility with my Grey & there is an ex racing Grey here currently competing in obedience & agility & doing well ,They excel at tracking. There are show greyhound breeders in NZ . I loved all 8 of our Greys but would never recommend them as a guard dog ,also what are the muzzling laws in NZ the one thing we found when walking our Greys who had to wear muzzles back them is people would approach to ask questions or comment .From the different breeds i have owned the public where more interested in approaching the Greys .
  15. Many breeds would suit but given she may want to show then that could narrow the choices of what will suit both , Knowing what breeds interest her would really be more helpful & give an idea of what path she is heading down . Most of the wants on her list are all about training
  16. The problem is people attend class once a week & expect the dog to suddenly become well trained & when it isn't they give up & the dog gets no where . For me class size isn't a big issue , i now some with small classes that are hopeless, boring & turn you off .If i was doing a 6 week course then i would expect strict guidelines by all in the class because its a short time to learn unless the offer another class more advanced afterwards ,Many people start "getting it" around 6 weeks & then need the class to help more & more with new behaviors. Distractions is what training is about & even when i train in the backyard ts all about distractions i don't train my dogs in quiet gives a false sense of achievement then the giant disappointment hits at class.
  17. Aloof breeds do in my opinion require a very dedicated owner .Understanding aloof & ensuring it is still socialized & managed is very important . I think you need to look at exactly what you are expecting from any dog, what temperament will best suit the environment it will be living in & the plan to live with such dog. What are must haves & what are must knots by breed nature. I would say if your not sure what you want then getting a pup in 3/4 months won't happen ,don't rush you need to meet breeds & good breeders won't sell pups to people who haven't truly researched & have a good understanding of the breed & why it best suits there lifestyle . Personally i would never select a breed thinking you could train it into something else . Characteristics can certainly be stronger or weaker in each pup but the breed will be what it is good & bad. Many people seem to buy Labs because of the perception of being Guides dogs ,guide dogs are well trained animals & a selection process of picking pups with the right attitude to the job is important but they don't pop out with those manners . I will say we don't recommend to our puppy owners taking extended time off work to be at home for pup ,this often ends p causing massive issues for the pup when suddenly left home alone .Start as you plan ,pick the time of year wisely .If your not a winter person don't get a winter pup ,some people find committing to winter training & playing outside not something they wish to committ to . My GSD was a gem to live with ,very independent & able to cope very well on his own ,30 mins walk ,he actually didn't shed alot but he had a vey different coat to many GSD that shed by the bucket load
