I would also take into account that training to also not be dependent on you is just as important. Your dog will be with you 24/7 & reliant on you for all activities ,some dogs will them happily accept you have left for a few hrs others will have a total melt down . Be careful what you wish for in a "velcro" dog ,this can come with giant pitfalls in a living style such as yours & then require even more effort to retrain & be an enjoyable pet The Cavie i owned certainly didn't sleep all day they are a sporting spaniel & shouldn't be lazy, they are bright & like to use the brain ,they can snore up a storm & shed coat like crazy

Making A Hole In A Bottle Teat - Help Needed
Dogsfevr replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Breeders Community
Never had any issues ,we use Premmie bottles & nipples but never had issues with any & nevere had to put a hole in -
Is it doable without a fence yard yes BUT it will be a life time commitment to fill its needs every single day of the year no matter what . The dog will become a big priority due to not having a yard to go into so you will need to decide on toilet training & happiness to sit around until your ready to take it out ,the varying weather conditions through the year that will still means dog must get out & about no matter what . I read your situation & think Cat would be better

I wouldn't be allowing my dogs to eat horse manure especially if i didn't now the horses & when they where wormed last . There have been cases of dogs becoming very ill due to eating horse poo from horses wormed due to the high levels of ivermetican .

So the breeder didn't test the litter themselves?? All swabs we have had done must be done by a vet & chip details listed & signed & the same has applied in other breeds friends own who have had them tested We still do the yearly eye checks though
-
I now of vet practices that said they have put down dogs per owners request & then it be found out the staff have then gone behind the owners back & rehomed & yes some of these dogs had issues the vet staff felt wasn't true in there view & in one case ended badly for the person who took on the dog & the clinic taken to task for lieing to the person about there dog being PTS & for asking for it to be done for all the right reasons .How was this found out microchip number as when the issue occured it was still registered to the owner who wanted the dog PTS ,the owner had a bill paying for that service If a vet doesn't wish to do it then they should refuse BUT never ever lie to & then rehome just because they think they now better , I will add we never leave any dog to be PTS without being there have also known vet nurses to try and save pups that have long term health issues & rehome ,have had vet nurses give lectures about PTS a pup that in there view deserves a chance yet had a terminal heart condition that would survive if lucky to 9 months & struggle . I will add we had a vet nurse give us the "we are cruel owners lecture " for PTS an 8 week old pup that was diagnosed with a terminal heart condition we always stay if anything we own needs to be PTS because the stories of vet staff not following through is more common than people think

It isn't about whether your dog is friendly its about the fact the dog park isn't about your dog & what you expect from it. Every person has the right to use it & not have to worry about other peoples dogs. I think the issue here is you have set idea's of what you think should happen in the park which i don't agree with & a reason why i don't use these places. I have no issues with this guy using the park he has every right too ,the issue is from your post is this Surely when you enter a fenced in off-lead park like this you would expect some robust play ? This is so not true but the problem is most people see it as a free for all playground for there dogs to go crazy for 30 mins run up to dogs & the owners always yell "its friendly: whilst there to far away to have control or even now what the other dog is like plus as mentioned the fact that some of these dogs wipe out the other owners whilst they play & create havoc Dave -o this dog isn't under control if it was it wouldn't run over to other dogs to try & play BUT many owners allow this & it becomes an intimidating confrontation with the owner to far away to have control ie place lead on straightaway . I would never be so naive to think your dog couldn't react ,dogs are just like humans & not all get along you are lucky & have a friendly young dog BUT that doesn't mean things can't happen in a flash or a moment

Great live stream & you can rewatch it

Yes i wash my Setters in Coconut oil every so often but Not the before a show unless on the monday as it can take some time to get out. Leave for 30 mins ,coat will loo like a candle stick & wash out luke warm water you can leave some in with no issues, Makes the coat soft & shiny which may not be what you want though. Has she been in season yet ??

Is It Safe To Keep A Gsd (big Dog) In With Little Ones?
Dogsfevr replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
We have big & small but it all about common sense & training & that doesn't just mean the big dog ,the little dogs also need to now the rules . Most of our big/small are left together BUT some when out we separate because its the right thing to do This was my GSD , As for them attacking any dog big or small can problem is when people want to own dogs that aren't trained to live together ,most little dogs are the annoying ones but get away with it because "there small" size doesn't matter if your little dogs don't interact with big dogs often then it can be a massive life changing experience for them & one they will either accept or hate My big dogs are taught to lay down for any small dog BUT i also appreciate there near 40 kg & no matter how gentle they are 40kg v 10 kg is a massive difference & one wrong move & yes things can go wrong so as such we are set up for all sizes to enjoy life & have there own space but we are on an acre . -
Firstly you should discuss this with the breeder of your pup after all they now there puppies best & many guarantee there pups on the diet they suggest because it works Changing the diet straight away is not fair on the pup unless the diet is so bad & i would presume you selected the breeder because you like how there dogs look through all the ages & there health etc etc. Changing to quickly can results in the pup having upset tummies & the stress during this crucial stage of settling into a new home & with a new dog to adjust to can already unsettle there tummies . Your breeder should have given you or will do a diet sheet that the pup is use to ,stick with that until the pup has settled if you want to change add a bit slowly

How Do You Deal With Growling?
Dogsfevr replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think its that simple many people have no clue what an educational telling off is & there dogs being narky. Many have no idea how to read the scenario of a dog growling to it escalating & some dogs that are rewarded for growling the first time get away with it again & again because people say "its okay". Dogs being dogs isn't that simple either ,some breeds that attitude would end badly & often does because people say "there dogs let them sort it out " Many adult dogs have never been exposed to young dogs & managing that intro is more than just turfing them out & saying they will sort it out ,that is plan irresponsible & can end in teaching the young dog bad habits . We have dogs here that are great educators & the pups get to interact with BUT these dogs are what i consider soothing, calming & encourage an interaction that is equal pair. I have other dogs that whilst fully accepting of new pups need there time out there growling wouldn't be educational . This isn't a simple topic & not one that should make any person frustrated each dog should be assessed & all aspects considered regarding all the dogs interest .Breeds can play a massive part & i would hate someone to tell people just let them sort it out without understanding some breeds . -
Introducing Malamute Puppy To New Playmates
Dogsfevr replied to ellejaytee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Depends on the temp of the other dog & what there idea of a playdate is & the control they have over there dog . Just because your dog is big doesn't mean he can't learn manners to interact with little dogs & behave ,it doesn't mean he has to play but manners around little dogs is just as important . Sounds like you need to join an obedience club so your pup can learn to interact whilst you are being taught -
Has she considered a Smooth Foxie Terrier ? Bigger & tend to be more calmer & social . As a breeder when we rehome older dogs they go on a trial & if it doesn't work the dog can be returned . I guess the one thing i would keep in mind if this dog comes with issues this elderly person will be stuck with it & whilst you may deal with a dog with issues others find it harder to manage especially as she will take this dog walking where it will see men & she will need to understand how she reacts in public at the vets & anytime a male is around . I would be asking to see her current vaccination status ( to see what additional costs there may be ) ,ask if she is microchipped, spayed etc etc .
-
I wouldn't be feeding when he comes back in .another expectation on the list ,caret time at nighttime is all about slepping so i don't pander to mine or bride them to be quiet the rules are simple crate & quiet at night & making sure they are warm is a must especially after a 3AM TOILET BREAK IN THE COLD. Are you taking him outside to toilet at those set times or is pup waking you up to specifically go them ?? Do you take pup out on the lead to toilet or does pup get to play at this time ,is it a quick toilet run or a lomg winded run ?? At 3 months all my pups go all night without a toilet run but i have never been a person who schedules toilet runs during the night ,if they ask they go out if there asleep & quiet they stay . I would also look at PJ's for his late night toileting otherwise stick to your guns & don't pander to him

Why do you want to breed her ?
-
Only you can decide whether you feel happy with getting a puppy from these breeders. The biggest issue seems to be as soon as deposit is mentioned people don't think with there head they often just rush to pay through fear of missing out THEN ask questions afterwards . We don't take any deposits ,to messy to deal with & if things go wrong (pup not surviving wrong sex or pups not being the right fit for the home everyone it becomes tricky) If we are happy with the people who have contacted us then we commit to our word . We don't allow people to see our pups till after 6 weeks not just because of Vaccs but by that age they are interesting & ready to interact with strangers prior to that there not fun nor what people expect when they come out . I think the biggest issue here is you have asked very few questions that where important before hand & now your asking those questions .
-
You have three options say nothing, talk to them or contact the council. Whilst i think bark busters are useless they obviously are trying to address the issue so give them bonus points for that . If ii was to approach i would sooner do it face to face ,i would be making sure your greatful that they are seeking help in this matter but barking through the night is very trying on everyone . Our back neighbour apparently at times has deafness to all night barking & i make it well known ,not only is it selfish & annoying the dog is also suffering & will be the one to suffer the most in the end Maybe the rent with a no dog inside policy but reality is a barking dog is no fun .

She was 100% trustworthy around anything but chooks

See i would be doing the opposite have her out at busy time ,she needs to learn to interact with everyone but realize its not about her ,the more she can mingle on her own the quicker she will learn about life is great & go about doing her own thing, then when everyone has gone quiet time . At present the crate to her is all about being left & she hasn't learnt to have self moderate her time & life experiences, she has always had company BUT by being able to interact with no attendtion made she will quickly learn that being velcro is boring & that there are more fun things to do. You need to train her not to be needy . Greyhounds are lounge lizards ,she will be happier with a couch than a crate BUT all our show greys where crate trained . When left alone we always leave the TV or radio ,our boarding kennels has the radio 24/7 because its a noise not a deadly silence Greyhounds now they have done something wrong so generally you don't even need to say anything .they will slink over & have the expression of extreme sorrow. As for treats what are you using ?? Is she a good eater ?? Does she like toys ?? Does she have a coat for the early mornings a cold Greyhound is also an unhappy Greyhound . Do you leave the crate door open when she is free & does she happily take herself there or do you have another comfy bed set up that she will chill on? As for toilet training all my pups are brought in & then i will take them straight out again & use the "toilet" key word because often they forget & owners then train them that coming in a toileting is the routine & when they go massive praise especially if she is reliant on you to open the door for access, Enjoy this clumsy time mits like living with a baby Giraffe & don't forget training ours loved obedience * i did agility with another

Hand stripping comes in varying methods, with your JR you can simply roll the coat just pulling out the dead hairs or use a slick & easy stone to work on the coat . Alot will depend on the quality of coat prior to when it was clipped as to how the outcome would be,some roughs have a very sparse coat & no under coat to work with so over stripping wouldn'y suit that coat but you can simply work with that coat . A good coat is very easy to work on & keep tidy . The dead coat dies & falls out over time & usually you can see a nice new coat growing under a "blown" coat (that is what we call the old coat ,it looks loose, untidy & long ,these hairs will fall out if you use your fingers to pull, Generally if a dog wears a collar it will have the best coat as the collar self strips the coat but if you don't work on the coat the undercoat can take over & it look soft, dull & lifeless & lacking the bright colour

Depends what you asked the groomer to do. We find 90% of our clients ask for the wrong thing & expecting a different result so we always ask & explain what they have asked won't result in what they want & show them how it should be done. In all honestly you can easily do your own dogs coat & the more work you put in weekly the better the result & it won't take long at all. You don't even need to spend a fortune on tools .I would head down to a dog show & ask the terrier coated breeds to give you some help or ring the JR breeders . Very few groomers will hand strip & most have no clue what it is .
