  1. You need to change things ,you can't feel guilty you just need to make your old boys life more fulfilling in his own way . He can't do long walks & it isn't fair on him ,it also isn't fair on the other dog ,both dogs have different needs. Are you saying your old dog gets stressed if you left him ?? Our oldies here get introduced to a new routine that suits them & they couldn't care about being left because they have there own time that suits them . Dogs get old so you have to adjust the young one still has to live a fulfilling life so you simply have to make time for both
  2. If she had done things different the dog may never had bitten it works both ways when you house sit someones elses dog
  3. All our pets go on limited & all must be spayed by a set age,if people don't like it then they get to go elsewhere . Dogs sold on mains is done so because the pet owner has been honest & both parties work to a mutual agreement on why they need mains papers . Our breed is also highly sort after & generally speaking the only ones who insist on mains papers are the ones who plan to just breed ,have no intentions of showing, competing or anything else ,Just want to join the canine & get a prefix. We have sold a few to show people on mains with no issues at all BUT pups are registered at 8 weeks & if they don't meet our criteria for mains they go on limited as any decent breeder does. We take a deposit once people have come out & viewed the pups,we don't have anyone view them until there microchipped. When the right pup is matched to the person they pay a holding fee & the pups chips is placed on the receipt, when they collect pup the chip is again checked to ensure it matches paperwork. We don't accept deposits as we have never had the need to too BUT i now plenty that do for all the right reasons . Yes many do now due to time wasters & they are becoming more & more common .
  4. Sounds like a very bored dog doing the same thing over & over again with no real reward or pleasure in doing it . She needs to be trained in the outside world not in the backyard. You can't get frustrated at a dog that doesn't have to deal with any distractions & yet be perfect when more interesting things take her fancy ,it means that the connection between you & her in the real world isn't there & she is young .Exposure to distractions is far more important for me & learning how to deal with them ,no point having a perfect dog in the backyard if nothing applies outside so with our show dogs distraction training is very important & we start very early whilst its all about fun with no expectations to be happy & pay attention to us,we don't want perfection at 7 months we just wan progress when out & about .Infact i never train in the backyard ,for me the backyard is there world to be dogs & enjoy there free time ,
  5. He isn't ready to accept it but it doesn't mean your girl should suffer . His biggest regret will be not wishing it was done at the right time . Like many owners our first time we wanted longer & longer the biggest regret we ever had & we let our dog down bigtime by being so selfish & not listening to her .All those years of of joy & we couldn't reward her with her wings when she needed it. We have never made that mistake since & have felt very happy with the time each one has gone & making it easier to accept & deal with . We never want our best friends to go but there is nothing more special we can do then let them run free

    Puppy Diet

Phone your breeder but i gather its simply puppy dry ,ask them after all most breeders want to help there puppy owners & wait for these types of phone calls
  7. I believe you can't expect them to get along, you can train your puppy & hope it works but you need to be prepared that there is no guarantee any breed will suit what you want . Our first dog lived with our Guinea pigs ,she was one in a million ,most of our others i wouldn't trust nor would i expect them to get on .different animals with different personalities .
  8. Black hawk caused nothing but issues on our dogs total rubbish ,we feed royal canin & wellness
  9. Given the dog owners that enter our property & what they think is acceptable at our place i wouldn't want to stay at a place that didn't have rules,People's ideas of acceptable is a very funny one,we have people that take there dog to pee on our BBQ,outdoor furniture ,front door & the list goes on . I travel alot with showdogs & my dogs sleep on the bed but even if dogs are allowed on the beds they are crated /safe & secure with no risk of something happening to someone elses property ,i now far to many people pet owners included that do not respect pet friendly places & abuse the system to suit themsleves
  10. I wouldn't be putting my dog on the boat unattended after such surgery . What is your dogs hip score ?? What has the breeder said about the score ?? I would be asking for a second opinion before rushing ,don't be made to feel you have too,be your dogs advocate & think things through & ask lots of questions, why is this the best, what does it have to offer over other methods etc etc.make them talk to you ,not them blinding you with info & feeling rushed. Many dogs do fine without the surgery & owners use physio.bowen & other methods to keep the body fit ,obviously each case has to be assessed on how bad .
  11. If your thinking of showing then i would attend the English Springer Spaniel club champ show in NSW over the Easter weekend . Things like: 1.Temperament Should be out going & social 2. Grooming Show grooming is an art that also includes daily work on the pee feathers 3. Health Parents should be DNA for PRA / Fucosidosis & have yearly eye tests /hips etc 4. Cost of showing, entry fees etc % 12 give or take plus travel * accomadation if you go outside of your area plus membership to dogsNSW 5.how strong/competitive is the breed in the ring Any breed is strong it comes down to the effort you put in & the pup you get ,keeping in mind pups show potential only . trainability very trainable 7.do they get easily attached to people/other dogs Springers are gundogs so like most gundogs there owners are there person 8. Energy levels high but can be lazy ,lines can vary 9.do they bark a lot like any dog if you let them 10. Are they loyal? again like any dog loyality comes with respect 11. How often can you show, every weekend, once a month? every weekend or some week days 12. Is showing enjoyable or is it really as bitchy as everyone says it is? Showing is like any hobby sport it comes with its good & bad ,i don't now of any activity that doesn't 13. Successful nsw studs in the ring, who are they, can you give me some names or bloodlines to lookup? Success isn't that simple & lines depends on what you are wanting pure UK lines/blended /American 14. Where should I look for a puppy? What studs? From someone that shows & has success, don't expect to get a pup overnight .A stud dog isn't the only part of the package the dam is just as important ,it takes both sides to create a type & have good health ,Going to shows is your best place to see what is out there & what you are committing to.Owning the dog is the easy part showing means effort ,no effort no results,no fun
  12. A comb, pin brush & soft slicker is all you need & you don't need to spend the prices of the CC stuff posted ,plenty of good quality gear out there at half the price & still last just as long if not longer .
  13. Is puppy not allowed free access to the backyard or is the yard not puppy proof,Play pen should be inside & outside is for mental stimulation & exploring & being a dog ,puppy can't be in the pen all the time as the crying may end up more for wanting more enrichment & you start teaching puppy to be very reliant on humans for things to be done instead of pup learning to do it on its own & be brave & independent ,Yes Cavies are people dogs but there also sporting spaniels that love using there brain
  14. Just because your sitting the exam doesn't mean you wont be a BYB breeder. The fact that all you have mentioned here is breeding would be a no sale here as well . As any breeder knows there is no guarantee your first dog should even be breed from ,main papers doesn't mean it turns into a dog suitable for breeding. From what you have written here it sounds like you need to go back step 1 ,breeding is a whole other project . If your plan is to breed then you need to research the lines you like, the style of dog you feel meets the standard best, breeders that health test & so much more . I will add some of the worse BYB in my breed are registered
  15. I would reconsider leaving her in the room & moving pen to a space that is enriching & around family life. Most breeders puppy pens are in the main areas of the house so they are very involved in daily life, sounds & noises without being shut away . Our pups are in there puppy pen in the Kitchen/family room area . We don't bribe with food because it won't happen as adults & we don't leave pups unattended with necks/wings or any bones . They are left with a variety of toys which are changed daily BUT our pups also spend alot of time outside being pups . What has been her routine since you have had her to now?? How much training to be independent have you given pup since coming home ? 20 mins is nothing although i have never had a pup cry when brought home & left & we start as we go from day 1
  16. Never had any issues, all our retirees are spayed & no one gets fat unless we cause it
  17. What is the temp on the parents like ,a number of the White Swiss i see at shows have very poor natures ,spooky, reactive
  18. Westies can be clipped but if your wanting it to be hand stripped then you need to be prepared to do alot of work yourself & pay alot more & go to the groomer nearly every 4 weeks. You can easily learn to do it yourself . If you don't wish to take the dog often then the groomer can only do so much each time , Rolling the coat is simple & any pet owner can do it
  19. Trial & error & i would also find a good Bowen person ,dogs stomach muscles also play a big role of tummy discomfort & can affect there stools
  20. Epiotic we run a mile from no way would we use that down our dogs ears & funnily enough the people with issues we ask do you use epiotic So if thats the vets answers we enough said
  21. She would need to contact dogsNSW ,she would need to become a member,re register the dogs here & then apply for a breeding prefix ,all the details easily available to her , The Titles will be recognized here .
  22. We are groomers & own a breed that does require plucking & to be honest the vets that say this usually have no clue at all & when there is an issue there advice is to knock the dog out & do it that way after the ears are that bad & yes i have seen that option all to often. Most of these vets can't even pluck ears in the clinic unless the dog is knocked out because they have never ever done it themselves Many of these same vets prescribe ear products whilst infected & hairy that the owners TRY and place in the ears but are to full for any benefit & often the product sets like concrete & causes awful issues to the dog as it blocks the ear way & yes have witnessed this too. We currently have a puppy we breed with ear issues, the vet has told them not to pluck ,this dog has very hairy ears ,The owner is trying to put cream down & the vet has prescribe prednil .Personally the vet sounds like a new graduate with no idea at all & the owner believes them meanwhile the dog is the one suffering which is very sad . I can guarantee you this dog will be knocked out to have its ears cleaned & the poor owner will come out $600 plus poorer for the effort . We are not believers in over doing it but we have been around long enough to understand ear hair & have hands on experience that most vets never ever have or even try to experience ,i can also tell you what chains in my state have this method which is also the same chain that insists on many other over the top theories & $$$$ spent on everything an anything . Common sense tells you filling an ear full of hair with cream isn't going to work
