I wouldn't recommend those breeds to anyone who is not prepared to put alot of work in. If you believe you have the time to do that they could be great but if time is an issue then i would not bother .They are powerful, very smart & need alot of mental stimulation otherwise a nightmare to live with through no fault of there own I gather your kids have friends that come around so also keep in mind the dog you pick needs to be trained for little friends or you have an area set up that is dog safe /child safe .I am not saying those breeds aren't child friendly because they are but breeds often wanting to protect there family require good training in understanding visitors at home are fine . Of the ones you have listed the Giant will have less coat work, the other two will also require dedication to grooming & all 3 will require adding the expense of grooming salon visits. I have shown Airedales for years i think they are great dogs you can't do alot of the grooming yourself ,whether people would be scared by them who knows but for the short period you want an intimidating dog the rest of the time it needs to be a wonderful family pet that will fit in the car & go out with you so also factor in your car size & if a large breed would fit

If you over mix no amount of rinsing will wash the purple colour out & each dog & coat absorbs it differently ,legs can take a stronger strength than often the body but again depends on the coat . I never apply whitening shampoo to a dry coat ,it is done whilst wet & left on for the allocated time or the time that suits that dog . Some shampoos can make the coat go yellow/dirty if used to much . Green dishwashing detergent works a treat on legs & velvet soap & i will do this as a pre clean before a whitening product is applied but yes it can be drying so a good conditioner must be used . White vinegar added to a shampoo works great too . Also stripping the dead coat on the legs ,most people never do but that short coat is often dead & needs removing leaving a stunning white underneath

What treats does your dog get ,often the issue isn't just the main meal but all the other stuff they give on top of the meal. Pigs ears, bones ,treats etc etc

She isn't giving you signals because she doesn't have to nor been train to ,she doesn't now what is expected . Most dogs are very proud & clean so convincing a dog that toileting in the house is right is hard . At her age she should be trained & in a good toilet routine but the issue you have is she has no routine of "where" should toilet . So what is your long term plan, Dog will always be required to toilet inside? Dog will have access outside & expected to go outside . At present when you are home what is her toilet routine ,do you make her go inside or do you take her outside . Where does she sleep at night & is she clean over night ? You have to realize at present you have taught her the house is for toileting in that is her yard & you need to decide what routine you want & yep you will have to be patient & watch & re enforce . Chances are in her room she wants to be clean & not toilet in her "space" so the rest of the house is for the loo because she has no idea about going outside . If you want to use the grass loos then teaching her to toilet on grass becomes more normal & friends buy proper turf & place it in a tray because its normal like the dogs yard .

They are great dogs, got to play with two show Picards whilst i was in the US a few weeks back

Have you asked the dog walkers how she is on walks, personally i wouldn't be handing my 3 month old to strangers to walk plus with her age she shouldn't be doing alot of walking . Is she cold at night & just simply isn't interested in going out , How does she intercat in the backyard at night ?/

Junior Handler State Final
Dogsfevr replied to ess are amazing cair's topic in General Dog Discussion
The main tip is selecting the right dog for the day ,im not talking about a robot but a dog that is happy to stand in a line for a long period of time, can do all exercises required for the age bracket & making sure you listen & can do the exercises required . Alot will also depend on the level of skill said child has , Parents shouldn't place any pressure about the day ,its just another handlers comp in the end & if the child is happy with there dog selection then the rest is just down to team work & what the judge is looking for which is what is in the rule book . -
You run a bigger risk of bringing parvo home on your shoes . Personally a park would be the last place i would take a puppy to train due to the idiots with bad mannered dogs. You can be doing training out the front of your house & in your area, short walks, learning about cars, trucks & buses going past & anything else the outside world can deliver ,noises etc etc. As mentioned puppy pre schools at vets are a higher risk than most places as they don't clean there carparks etc etc so if they have an affected dog most owners have no idea & just walk them in . Your pup is old enough to go to big dog obedience school

Why do they put up such crappy photo's that don't allow you to see the dog for what it is , I agree training is not breed based ,appreciating what type of dog you are getting & whether you can cater for its needs is a bigger issues.

Dog Training From Home - Support And Ideas
Dogsfevr replied to RebeccaOGM's topic in General Dog Discussion
This sounds rather suss ,the contacts numbers are overseas & the info on the website is all about money making -
There is no simple answer , no rule fits every dog .what one made add is based on to many variables than a simple yes/no . If i was feeding a good raw diet then i shouldn't have to be adding to it

nope,we tell our puppy owners not to & its at there own risk & certainly wouldn't give it to a puppy . It also costs big dollars . We no longer heartworm treat as the risk is small compared to the chemicals but i appreciate some areas you can't risk it,when we did heartworm we did daily & still would do daily although we did do liquid for a number of years .

Yep your breeder should be the one best to assist with charts, tools & advice

Loose Teeth - Urgent Advice Needed
Dogsfevr replied to osusoy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Toys breeds do have a higher incidence of dental issues & its often diet related as everyone feeds them little things & make it easier for them. If there loose they need to come out ,they will fallout themselves & just because you think the dog isn't showing signs doesn't mean it isn't ,it will be eating differently to adapt to what it can/can't do with those teeth . -
This sunday the Bull Terrier club of WA have there champ show at the Canine grounds starting at 12.30 ,maybe head down & just see what is out there .Bullies aren't shown alot so this would be your chance to see them in large numbers

I would be more worried about making sure the Kerry knows the social ladder rules, your brave taking on two terriers especially with a Kerry Blue . Any other breeds i would say yep let them work it out but with a Kerry i would be keeping a good eye on its interactions with your dog an any dog ,lets face it there not the best at sharing with other dogs & yes i have owned two & they where never left with our other dogs when unattended

Opinions On Some Breeds * PUPPY UPDATE PG 4*
Dogsfevr replied to dididog's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would also factor into your plan maybe moving overseas ,the bigger the dog the more expensive it becomes to ship them & the costs are going up & up .so if shipping to very large breeds start saving . Having an energetic breed isn't about exercising them infact thinking longer walks will make them livable is not true.any dog will walk for how ever long you want, making it happy the other 22 hrs is the main factor. GSP i have alot to do with energy levels are nothing but living with them is another thing they can be insanely needy & not cope on there own very much like Weis, when the right scenario works there awesome dogs but they can also be your worse nightmare Pointers are far easier to live with & quieter . The problem with Std Schnauzers is often the people that get them want a Mini but in the next size up,they are not a Mini but a true working dog that needs owners who can offer them that respect, they are truly loyal to there owners .This breed is too smart for its own good & make a wonderful all purpose dog & thrive at all dog sports, like any working breed they learn quickly & get frustrated quickly & will out smart any owner who doesn't respect them. They are very agile & so quick on there feet & used as police dogs in Europe & of course Cancer sniffer dogs in the US plus many other jobs . As for Setters they wouldn't fit into the OPs weight range ,would be rare to get a Setter under 30 kg . Depending on where ypu may end u overseas you copuld have a far better choice of breeds that we don't have here ,like in t he US the Picardys are wonderful dogs -
no your not & don't let anyone make you second guess. We run kennels with opening hrs & have learnt after 23 yrs that pandering to clients doesn't end with success & the same few are the ones that take it for granted every time. We will certainly work in with people in special scenarios but it still must fit in with the the dogs in boarding best interests as the safety & care of our clients dogs comes first.

A good under coat rake, comb & slicker brush is all you need. I would suggest they train the dog to be brushed on a table ,yes an extra expense but worth every cent & makes grooming so easy & simple & saves your back plus ts great for checking the dog over . If they don't want to invest in a table whilst pup is still little place a heavy duty mat on top of the crate & brush pup there ,its crucial from day 1 to teach good manners & wanting there pants & tail brushed

In the last few years the requests from people are getting weirder & weirder & the arrogance of many when you explain calmly back why some things can't happen is appalling . I honestly don't now where people are getting feed the info to ask such questions or expectations. We get alot who ask to spend the day like its a dog zoo ,i often wonder why people think is . We are very much about meet & greets but times are certainly changing

Your biggest Thankyou would be making sure you do your part of the deal & making the effort to help yourself . Many breeders do what this person does, spends hrs helping ,our biggest reward is when the hrs of effort we put in is rewarded by the new owner making just as big an effort . Its makes us feel like doing it over & over again & that where not wasting our time . A gift is a lovely gesture put seriously just saying Thankyou for helping me get started means just as much
