You will need a very sturdy puppy pen & a tall one or one with a lid & to be honest keeping any active gundog puppy in one all day will not be successful i am surprised a breeder would say yeah that will work ,pens are great & we use them BUT not all day & you cant use it for ever your pup will out grow it very quickly & you need to then decide on what that next plan is & as the cat is indoors only i gather the pup will have to be outside from then on so you need to set the pup up from day one to fit into its living arrangements As a gundog owner who works from home mine would never cope being confined that long ,yes there puppies but don't under estimate an active breed puppy there not for the faint hearted & there very good thinkers

We just buy a single mattress you can get some good ones fairly cheap and thick

Yes just ignore you have to take the good with the bad and at present the pup isn't sure so going outside as often as possible is the key ,also if nothing happens come inside then encourage straight and lots of toilet words .The pattern of today is pup hung on all day until home so at have had more to toilet than one hit so next time that where you do the outside again Don't worry about toileting out and about some will others won't but in time your pup will learn to loo on the lead but for examp,e walks here is not for toileting but as my dogs are show dogs they are taught as pups to toilet whilst on lead but its baby steps and your baby step is backyard for the loo. Keep in mind if pup has been encourage to toilet inside in the pen some get confused about what is right/wrong so be very regular about outside for loo.Walks, car drives is about life experiences

Walking doesn't go on month ,the length goes on the age of the dog your pup can go for short walks every day which is very important to see the outside world ,.Your pup sounds like it's very reliant on you for being it's fun and you need to train it to be its own fun You don't need to reward being quiet in the pen because all your doing is disrupting the correct behaviour just go about until pup asks to be out . Don't over use the pen there a great tool but your pup is old enough to be having more out time and learning independent manners ,we recommend pens to our owners for over night sleeping, times pup can't be watched, sleep time and those with young children but we stress that over use that's away a pups independent thinking so you need to manage the time spent in to the time spent out

The fact you have a doggy door & other dogs to assist should make it very easy ,our pups at 6 weeks learn the doggy door & learn very quickly about asking out of the pen to toilet . As he understands the door he now needs to understand the outside world is for toileting ,this is easily achieved ,don't make a big deal of it asking pup to toilet outside needs to be calm ,patient but encouraging to the world, walking around & ignoring the play or antics is important when pup does go then the big deal is mad ,if you call pup out the door multi times a day & just casually walk about in the ideal are pup will get it very quickly. What can happen is the concentration span is limited so being with the big kids can often mean a distraction so if need be make time outside without the others so pup understands the reward for doing the job on its own We don't cover our pens with the pups being able to switch off with distractions is important & learning that everything doesn't revolve around them takes boundries . Some breeds love there voice ,providing pup isn't in there for an over the top time pup should be more than happy to sleep & have time out in the pen . If pup is going to bark perform then weignore ,if we see what is happening then we make it part of the toilet process & pup goes straight outside calmly for the toilet even if it doesn't want but it isn't a game time ,touch time its calm . The biggest thing is teaching pup the loo routine especially before winter & time out in the pen is fun

Go back to basics BUT above all without knowing what breed you have remember pup has 4 legs & needs to learn independent thinking .Your pup may not be attached as you think but more being barky because its not sure what you want . What sort of outside access does it have ,what is your toileting plan for adulthood

I think liking the breed & living with both is a big next step ,being an apartment dog is going to require alot of dedication in puppy hood to teach it manners .i don't consider either breed easy to live with & a GSP is either a joy or a needy nightmare ,The Viszlas we have boarded are certainly quieter in the voice but more active . As long as your prepared to do the hard work on a a very active gundog breed it may work but be prepared for many bumpy roads & also be prepared that many breeders may not be willing to sell you a pup given the living arrangements & this would be due to knowing the needs of the breed .remember its not about convincing the breeder your a great home is about you being very honest that you wont give up if it doesn't click & not work out . As for the cat who knows ,does the cat have access outside or purely an indoor cat

I hope you don't plan to mate your male to your cross bred girl .

They can snore something chronic

Dogs can certainly get seasonal allergies especially when trees are dropping leaves . Diet can obviously give those kind of symptoms too. Is your aussie in a natural coat & is it dropping coat or do you work on it weekly ,sometimes when blowing coat & the dead stuff isn't being removed they can get itchy ,. The eys you can generally just go to Chemist warehouse and get Chlorisig . You can also use hay fever meds & i would use them more so than any of the prednil family

Submissive Peeing And Increase In Anxiety

I think the reality is Annie is special needs & whilst you wanted a friend established before the new baby arrives it just wasn't meant to be & maybe just to much going on in Annie's world Whilst i think Beagles are great dogs i do think they require a certain partner to be compatible . -
I would say people should consider these things from the start ,dog limits happens in most places so I think one should always consider how many dogs and kids is workable . Personally I don't see the reason a worthy one if one has lived in the house that long and new it was small

If your in no rush attend the cavalier club of Victoria shows in June to see what there is. I always tell people when attending shows that its more to see the dogs in real life than to go there & talk all day to the people because the day is about people showing there dogs & watching the other exhibits . If you see dogs you like ask for a kennel card .also contact the Cavie club of Vic about what health tests should be done . There are plenty of great breeders in Vic so alot depends if your after a set colour & sex & as for obedience they excel ,they are a sproting spaniel so should be an outgoing dog that is very functional

The back leg issue isn't normal ,have you had it checked??
-
Maybe he just can't cope with the trains anymore and going home gives him relief .Try going for a car drive and walking where no trains are and see what happens

Ours never wear the cone & tramadal is a high dose pain killer not even our vet uses that for spay . Also alot depends how much area they clipped with the surgical blade ,many get clipper happy & that annoys & irritates the dog more than anything else . Neraly 25 yrs & getting a number of dogs spayed & never a cone & no issues but we use great vets

Desexing A Female 6 Month Old Purebred German Shepherd
Dogsfevr replied to JessicaH's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Some will charge more because they have had a season . We tell our puppy buyers to wait atleast 3 months after there heat. Is your bitch in season now?? as often GSD girls come in older -
I would think 6 kg at 8 weeks is fairly small Maremma so her weight at 10 weeks will be based more so on that . Where her parents small?? She may simply be a small lighter framed Maremma but ideally a breeder would mention that the puppy was at this stage a smaller framed one or a big boofer . Without knowing the sizes of the other pups its hard to say & one can only presume that there diet was good with the breeder & all is fine. Yes some liitle ones can grow to full size & others don't

I gather this is based on the same method used in the US although the shelter drives them selves which is highly successful in ensuring the puppies in the shelter get out & about ,in the US they visit such places to give staff time out which has proven great for the work place & enables the puppies to experience out side life before heading down the adoption path . Im not going to say whether this is the same but i have seen plenty of stories about this & it seems to be working well ,The adaption process there is very strict but the main goal is enriching both sides & many that have the "puppy parties" as they call them actually can't own a pet but enjoy donating to the cause & getting a puppy fix at the same time & the work places have found it great
-
If you are buying from a good ethical breeder they will supply with a diet sheet ,we send our diet sheets out prior so owners can get the food in ,they should also be happy to discuss what equipment which will included grooming equipment & show you how to brush your puppy correctly . Like already mentioned don't go crazy buying collars they do grow so quickly but again ask your breeder what they have found best suits there dogs . Your breeder should be your info source first & foremost & a good breeder really appreciates buyers who ask them for help first

[quote name='Dewclaws' timestamp='1456294473' post='6790821' Is there many entrants in shows ? Might go to the royal this year on the day their being shown to meet some in the flesh . I would wait & go to the shows just before Melb cup ,its a massive weekend of shows including the Gundog club of Vic & many breed shows plus a couple of All Breeds shoved in

I would live with a Flattie over a Lab any day . Flatties i feel are more sensible & a better all round dog . The flatties i have been around have been very active & also very chilled out, more calmer but still a very functioning out going active breed & very bright breed
