  1. You now what I wouldn't take no for an answer ,you are going to spend above and beyond for what you have paid for her and the training help you will need to make her an adjusted dog . You will be outlining the $$$ and time in a dog that the breeder obviously couldn't give a toss about and should take back . Sorry this has happened we have rehomed older dogs and they go on a trial run with a written contract ,taking it back if not suitable is just the moral thing to do
  2. There is no quarantine BUT it will cost big dollars to take a dog that size back & forth . Better to put the money towards finding a kennel that will provide the dog with alot of human interaction & exercise .Keep in mind a good kennels will provide more quality time than some house sitters . I would not do a private board without a contract & without truly knowing what they will provide especially given you are covering the summer months . We run kennels & long term boarders adapt very well . You need to look at what method will provide your dog with the safest option & you will need to book soon as you cover school holidays . I would not consider sending a dog east to strangers ,you need to find someone local & do meet & greets & a dummy run to ensure you dog will adjust to such a change without you being there if using a house sitter
  3. My dog who has always had chicken of some form started to come out in hots spots, scabby sores & little blisters,He was 7 yrs old Now has no chicken of any form & all is good,he was tested for varying things with no answer, over 12 months now & everything has settled no sores to be seen . The chicken may not be an issue but never say never .I would maybe discuss changing her diet to see especially if losing condition Some suggest rubbing coconut oil on the sores with the issue your dog may have but how proven that is is another thing
  4. I think you will find the coat you originally brought was always to small, that size wouldn't even fit our dogs that are similar size ,The coat size you now how have would fit a good weight Cocker & the coat style & shape also determines how well it fits a dog some are very tight at the front others aren't A Cocker shouldn't be smaller than a Staffy they both have the same height size
  5. Im not sure BUT do now from a boarding kennel point of view some vets have given there clients a supposed 3 yrly & the sticker with the info on it will expire before 3 yrs . We always insist the sticker provided by the manufacturers is always used as it has the batch number & expiry dats but many just do print outs
  6. What collar do you use ? Sounds like your puppy has trained you well
  7. Socialization isn't about dog parks.Socializing is about the outside world which is more than just dogs. My dogs never go to do parks, never interact with dogs on walks but my dogs are very social because playing with another dog isn't a given but a privelage .They know self control & they now when there allowed to play Mine are show dogs so learning to behave sanely amongst other dogs is important to me. What we find these days with boarding dogs is you can tell the ones who have been to free for all puppy school there manners are dreadful & they have no self control when they see another dog ,they place higher value on the dogs than anything else . Plus when you go to the vets & see the dogs that can't sit there calmly because they have never been taught that sitting there calmly ignoring the world is better manners .
  8. I would suggest you train the dog to be confined asap.If you plan to use a puppy pen then start training the dog to be happy in one . If you can hold off surgery for awhile it would be better to also condition the dog to how its going to have to live whilst recovering .
  9. Yep paranoid ,also is she able to take her self out to the potty porch or totally reliant on you to take her out?
  10. There old not common at all for eating habits to change, there sense of smell may be going & older dogs often look for different things. We have had oldies that can be harder to feed & we just adapt, great eaters all there life
  11. Show training at the canine is on Tuesday night ,Wednesday lunchtime ,Thursday night , There are classes in Mandurah . There are the odd people offering private lessons
  12. Training classes are held weekdays .Your best beat is to come down to some dog shows and watch ,last Monday would have been good for you as it was the Lab champ show . No one trains weekends as there at dog shows although people will help
  13. Conditioner wont do anything & if your not washing it all out in can make the skin flaky/dry . Depends what your feeding & keep in mind the oil generally just hangs at the bottom of the bowl we suggest powder which they eat more & doesn't stick in there beards
  14. What has the breeder said about the issues ?Did the breeder place out on a trial period . You certainly need to consult someone who can give you the right methods for this dog but don't be afraid to consider returning to the breeder,Dogs with issues is a lifelong commitment that can come with heartache, regret, frustration and expense. Before heading down the path off seeking professional advice I would certainly be having a good talk with everyone at home and with the breeder When the breeder said issues where they behavioural issues and what you expected ?
  15. Fairly obvious the OP meant visiting the pup after 6 weeks. We don't let people visit till after the first Vacc & at this stage the puppies are now active, use to playing outside & intersted in people & fun to watch, prior to that there just cute .
  16. Or pulled a muscle Even arthritis can affect just one spot , Vet may be helpful for me i always go to bowen first
  17. The breeder has done everything correct .its seems you do not understand the correct registration bodies which is ashame as you are blaming the breeder for all the wrong reasons. I think you have very much presumed things ,her price would mean $2500 registered with DogsNSW exactly what the pup is . She has supplied you with the papers & the form & all you have to do is submit the papers whether you plan to join DogsNSW is up to you .Once submitted the papers will be returned to you in your name . You have no been misled or ripped off ,sounds like you have a great breeder who has supplied all paperwork in a good timely fashion
  18. Your 1 & 5 yr old wont now what dog they want ,your 8 yr old would have a better understanding . All i can say is as a breeder placing the right pup with families with young children is VERY important .What method of selecting the puppy does the breeder use ??There is no point paying a deposit on a puppy that may be totally wrong for your family. I think there a great breed but maybe not the right breed for what your saying the kids want & remember they are little & break easy . Like any dog how they end up with kids is more a case of how good the kids are with dogs & how the parents ensure the right interactions take place . If your use to the sturdy Staffy then yes this will be the complete opposite & toys can be very much a one person breed . For what your wanting i would be looking at a more hardier breed or the next size up
  19. Many say doing back to back can give you a better success rate if AI . Personally we would do natural first before wasting imported semen plus its nice to see what that combo produces ,we would do an AI if we had to on a maiden but prefer not . I now plenty who have had success & failure
  20. The Wei & The Toy Poodle i would consider very even in natures in the sense of often to people oriented, manipulative & sometimes obsessed .both can be very one person orientated though so something to consider if its a dog for you both .
  21. We never ever take deposits. Once puppies are vet checked, microchipped & there personalities are known to us ,prospective people come out & look at the puppies. Once puppy is selected we take a very small holding fee & the holding fee & microchip number of puppy selected is receipted ,when puppy is collected a week later microchip number is confirmed per paperwork & balance paid . I see no reason to ask for money on pups that haven't past the crucial survival stage, not been vet checked or have any clue what the natures are & whether suitable for each family .Whilst we don't have temp issues matching puppies to the right environment is very important to us .
  22. All our dogs get Bowen treatment but especially the oldies as iits important to keep all the muscles in good condition as often they over use other areas that can end up more sore
