No Guardian homes means you have agreed to homing an entire animal that may/will be used for stud work or breeding bitch . You dont have the official papers BUT should have the microchip papers . Your contract is for the number of litters you agree too BUT all aspects should be covered in guardian homes . It can work very well or very badly
-
Guardian home means your contraced to keep animal entire & return for how ever many litters. You normally have paid full price with a refund, pup or some other deal at completion of contract . You should still be the owner of the microchip paperwork & registered with your council per state law . What owners need to remember is you will be paying an entire animal fee compared to a spayed animal fee which can be alot of money & some councils (state based) may require you to register as a breeder as you are keeping an entire animal ( this covers the fact you dont plan to breed. You should be understanding your state/council dog ownership rules just as the person homing on guardianship should be understanding each states rules. Your contract needs to clearly outline the expenses to whom whilst in guardian contract . I co own dogs with agreement & have no issues BUT you need to be aware of the pros/cons even understanding your pet insurance if you have taken it out reading the fime print for all aspects

Vulnerable Breed Competition Final | Crufts 2023
Dogsfevr replied to Boronia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its not listed as a breed competing & Not in the video -
Glaucoma is painful . We had a dog with it biggest mistake we made waiting to long because of other options . Our local vet removed the eye & the difference in the dog within 24 hrs was amazing ,coped perfectly fine with no dramas no regrets what so ever & a fake eye just wasnt even an option for us ,it was just another thing the dog had to deal with & made no difference to his life , WE groom a few 1 eyed dog non with false eye all fine . My friends are well Known Peke people & dont see a specialist vet when there dogs go under but there vet (our vet) are savvy dog people who understand all things dog & certain breeds needs .

Its more a case of why buy a product for a dog with an issue without knowing if it will suit . Everyone jumps on the oatmeal route & most sensitive shampoos have it in . For yeast infection issues your just asking for trouble .Most poor reviews will be based on the fact wrong product for the wrong problem . People use malaseeb without a second thought even though humans need to glove up to use it . There are other products out there BUT we must understand the issue ourselves then look accordingly & like humans what works for one may be a nightmare for others

Cert 4 dog trainers course and organisation membership query.
Dogsfevr replied to Bubba's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think you have answered you question within your question. The varying bodies list there requirements its up to people which way you want to go . Training is like a box of chocolates so th efact they have listed what courses they require for acceptance makes it easy . I wouldnt call it drama given anyone can call themselves a dog trainer or behavourist these days without any qualification. Training dogs to meet the correct needs is a specialist field a person seeking out such trainer will have the checklist of what the trainer must be qualified for to have there dog accredited . -
Not for me I find it creepy and wouldn't want my pet to then be a display item for all too touch and look at . We spread some off there ashes at there fav place to be a free spirit and keep some to be with us in a personal and private manner
-
Nope all ours are cremated so they can go with us anywhere no matter where we move to
-
Why are they using either product . Both have different uses . Oatmeal is not for dogs with yeast issues & malaseeb is very drying so it depends what the actual problem is . F10 do a great shampoo for yeast. Dry ,flaky coats we use Sebitar from chemist warehouse which is fine for dogs BUT you need to know why that product should be used

Your doing to much exercise for its age in regards to potential joint issue . Walking doesnt make them tired it makes them fitter ,you will never tire out this combo ever but this combo is more than capable of having an off switch like any other dog & you will never ever reach a happy ending because this method doesnt give those results Mind games makes the brain tired BUT teaching the pup at this age self control & self calm is how older dogs become lovely to live with . I own large active breeds but teaching them chill in public & at home is more important than walking ,walking & walking . Sitting down reading a book & the dog reacting in the right way so a necessary life skill . For starters people work dogs being home is normal nothing to feel guilty over . There are plenty of dogs with owners home all the time that never get out the front door from week to week ,being home doesnt mean better owner. Make walks shorter & do more training skills .Be creative with at home items .Teach spin, walking backwards is a skill that tires dogs quickly due to concentration & muscles used . Cheap containers can be used for "find" the object ,the wheelie bins you can do weaving exercises forwards/backwards with spins. Sit ,shake hands ,drop all things that require the brain to focus . Exercise wobble boards teach balanCe,co ordination & focus $15 from Kmart . These things build a relationship of focus, reward & listen but whilst having fun .

And the answer is always the pup is driving us crazy so a long walk will calm it down .

Cost of Chemotherapy for dog lymphoma?
Dogsfevr replied to boldenbeau's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Treatment is normally at a specialist vet centre did they not give you a full info sheet in writing before treatment was considered on required initial dosage & costs?? Have you asked them why the price has jumped so much?? -
Plus add the vets who clearly can not diagnose correctly & tell puppy owners to go after the breeder or the name & shame posts before a correct outcome is even made . We had a puppy owner who followed there vets advice which was to go after the breeder (us) & demand XYZ. Luckily for us in our contract it clearly states any issues of a significant status we had the right for a second opinion before any refund or Finacial monies pursued We got 2 second opinions, our vet & a specialist vet . We told the pet owners we required a detailed vet letter of there finding for our records . There vet was made to look like a complete fool with a significant & dangerous misdiagnose, The dog did have an issue picked up by both in a second opinion which was very mild & fixable which we paid for . They contacted us in such a toxic ,vile manner certainly not the people we had well vetted before they even get approved for a pup .There vet had created such a horrible moment its was criminal . Both vets did a detailed report back outlining the findings, the tools use to diagnose & the outcome & our vet did the surgery after. There vet charged $1300 to spay a 6kg dog I had a dog who we got xrayed as he was toe tapping,we opted to use the vet closest to us as it was during an extreme heatwave & the dog was a senior . On collection of the dog told he needed a double hip replacement & that he must have lived a crippled painful life . Um no & looking at the xray even i could see his hips where great for his age & where previously when scored . The crap i got told was laughable & they thought i was some knob who new nothing .It was very obvious he did have a problem though which they did not mention. We asked for a vet report . We had the xrays rescored & came back well below breed average & the higher score was a result of the actual condition he did have . He was a near 10 year with severe spondylosis of the lower spine so his ability to flex was gone . Thiis was clearly listed on his rescore . When we contacted the vet about it & mentioned they missed something No we havent ,what about the Spondo said its no problem Umm hello its significant & its painful . They even questioned the qualifications of the AVA scorer & did we pay for it , As we pointed out you said he needed a double hip replacement & where prepared to put the dog through what for your misdiagnose . Being a breeder does come with alot of flack & expectations which is often hindered by lack of testing facilities offered especially when state govts are insisting on the impossible . I had to fly East years ago to get my dog BAER tested as no one did it here The machine at the Uni had broken down so not fixed & when the tester retired they never trained anyone else to use it . I believe Tasmania currently has no one to do BAER testing so breeders are in a pickle . MRI machines where not even an option testing things like SM & i know when the Cavie clubs did a test day /weekend it really had to be managed to allow as many users to get current dogs done & the cost i think was like $800 a dog & you could never get all dogs down in the year as the machine just wasnt available . I mean even in my home state a Cavie breeder arranges for a heart specialist to fly inn & do a 3 day heart clinic for official certification as no one here can do that .Yes there is a heart people but not what is required on paperwork . It would be wonderful if when state laws are considered the muppets also new about what is required for some of these testings & what facilities are actually available . Yep Pet owners dont understand ,they go on forums & groups & get the wrong info or there vet watched a video & because your dog is doing something it has to be that . Im all for accountability & reality & yes where expected to breed the perfect pet but humans are not required to test for potential health issues as that goes against human rights . WE stopped breeding last year as moving forward its full of clowns making decisions without common sense

Pet insurance - who are the best ?
Dogsfevr replied to persephone's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Great idea but sadly in this day & age it doesnt cover much depending on the issue . The current cover i have on my puppy gives me $30 000 cover per year ,8000 for hip/joint surgery etc for just over $700 a year . We get breeder discount at our vet & they are independent clinic with awesome prices but even for them they had to rise prices & most vets arent after hr clinics anymore so you have to go to an emergency vet -
There is nothing you can do . You accepted the guardianship rules most likely based on getting a cheap dog or refund after some point .The 4 litters would have been clearly stated in the contract . Often these contracts DO NOT cover what happens if it goes pear shape but very much outlines what happens if you dont follow through on the contract . It also often doesnt discuss medical decisions & expenses in these kinds of scenarios as ownership is two ways . Sadly animal cruelty starts with people allowing these guardianship programmes to happen in the extreme & never asking questions first .aka why 4 litters ,what happens if litters are big ,how old is too old ,what vet checks must happen for 3/4 litter for breeding clearance . Are they a member of a org(yes some accept crossbreeds & if so what is there COE )Have they meet the COE of the org . What is your state law on breeding ? I co own dogs on breeders terms but its clearly outlined ,there is the opt out & animal health first & all parties trust each other etc ,nearly 30 yrs of this method has worked well I gather the biggest issue you have is the fact that the bitch is now at risk of passing away due to infection which could have happened with the first litter anyway .AS a breeder myself just like humans the process can come with significant risks & lots of joy. Breeding comes with risks that many who sign up for a dog with a good deal tend to not want to research fully . As a breeder would we have done the 4 litter absolutely not ,2 here is max 3 only if a breeding option comes up that is a massive betterment for the breed option in health clearance status of producing clears. My question would be when did she go back to the breeder for whelping ? How many ultrasounds did she have prior ? Did she have an x ray pre whelping? Was she sick ,acting strange or have any discharge prior to whelping?? Who is making the decisions at present & at what cost with the vet .Are both parties on the same page for expenses ,are you being involved in vet discussions & decisions & the recovery process. Who gets the final say on heroic efforts .This would be my concern asap.

I think Valmae is having a rant that everyone should put pictures of puppies & prices in the ad to make life simple for her so she can make a personal judgement off whether its good enough for them We never put pictures or prices in our ads .If people where interested they contacted us where a personal discussion between both parties happens & all aspects of what there after & whether what we have will suit . We did clearly say no shipping & 99% of people never ever read the ad anyway & would contact us wanting them shipped

Pet insurance - who are the best ?
Dogsfevr replied to persephone's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It really depends on the breed & whether they want basic cover to premium etc etc. I have a friend with giant breeds & they use Woolworths & i can tell you they have had there monies worth from them. It really just comes down to the whats & then picking . Most have the same underwriter Should ad this is the first time i have ever opted for pet insurance very multi dog household & its never been a need for us & realistically still isnt but with prices of so many things going up & a large breed puppy we are using it especially for the first 15 months/2 years & after going through all sorts of choices ,looking at covers ,total amount etc etc i went with Woolworths too -
Just make sure whom ever does is a registered business with insurance . Too many people are just offering pet sitting with no skills, business just a fast buck & make sure you have a contract of what your expectations are on time spent etc etc. Some have so many jobs on the go that the dogs get a in/out feed & water change & thats often when neighbour issues occur & barking

I would not rush out and vaccinate for Lepto & if you did i would seriously understand the vaccination, the pro.cons & the risks that are very well known world wide with the vaccine . I am not anti vaccine BUT i would not vaccinated for Lepto

The risk of parvo is just as high without the older dog . You can bring it home on your shoes & any other item that goes on the ground , We start lead training our puppies in litters at 5 weeks out the front .Risk management is common sense & for some areas of the burbs it is a massive risk . You can just walk a house or too down with pup & older dog seeing the world is just as important as is lead training .

Breed advice - Vizsla vs Flat Coated Retriever
Dogsfevr replied to nat_o's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gundogs are bird dogs most have a good natural tendency to want to do what there meant to do . I have Gundogs mine catch & dispatch birds in the backyard its just reality in owning one . I expect it will happen & if there not interested its a bonus. Teaching to leave wildlife in general will be hard work no matter what breed & most likely a better solution is to have a dog yard set up that allows the dog time out from being over stimulated to the outdoors & a safe zone for when it needs it . Personally i would go English Pointer over a GSP any day of the week . GSP can also be very velcro, very vocal & destructive. -
The key with licki mats or the likes is dont just give them when your going out some dogs figure it out quickly that they come with departure , Give them when home or when ever . As to products like everyone as mentioned choices are like a box of chocolates what works for one is useless on another . Vet drugs these days have come a long long way & we board numerous dogs on various prescriptions & no sleepy or zoombies

Any breed can get sep anxiety especially as many owners do not treat there dogs as animals & do everything for them or take them everywhere never teaching them life skills to be a independent & happy on there own when required . Some dogs that always had a mate may have rellied on that dog for its confidence. Some breeds are certtainly more velcro but good owners set them up for successs
