I gather all your training is done with no distractions hence people think training is going great until pup/dog is placed in an over stimulated environment and puppy ends up in time out or outside. we suggest all our puppy owners get a puppy pen if they have young children benefit is puppy can have safe time out without being totally excluded or toddler can sit in puppy pen whilst puppy is getting excited and needs to learn to switch off, i don't teach sit and all that stuff,my guys are show dogs so i want personality but mine grow into big dogs so for me teaching calm around stimulating scenarios is more important,Training is never done in a calm ,boring environment . All pups here are given there time of being pups,if they want a crazy period then they get it ,it's not encouraged but it's not discouraged ,just like kids they need to have a mental fart moment

Only use Mooreholme in Victoria or Baycity in QLD

yep if the breeder is close by ask them if they will take it back ,we certainly do. Mind you there is no reason the house sitter option cant work given that you will be leaving the pup home when your at work . I gather you will have already set up a pup zone for when no one is home anyway so it really shouldn't be that much of a big change . If the breeder is a good one & does lots of things with there pups than bringing home after your holidays will work as well . Not the best time to do holidays & wanting a new pup so you need to talk with the breeder what they feel is best for that puppy ,it will be alot of change in a short space

Is he show line or working line ?

i would consider taking the pup to a dog chiropractor to make sure it isn't sore ,most vets will not be able to tell you if the dog is sore or not & stoic pups rarely show a pain threshold. It seems your doing great but by ruling out no muscle soreness you can have the complete package

Many decide adult as they think it is easier ,sometimes it can be but often you take on a dog that has been trained a certain way so the effort can be just as much work as a pup so either way the time & effort is very much the same but in a different way

What to do with dog when I go on vacation?!
Dogsfevr replied to Cuko13's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would not expect anyone to look after my dog for free especially for 9 weeks. As a boarding kennel owner i also wouldn't leave my dog with anyone for 9 weeks without a written contract signed & agreed by both parties & as your dog has issues even more so . You would seriously need to do a test run on whether your dog is going cope being around other dogs unattended especially with HD. You will need a back up plan if it doesn't work ,you will need to have this backup plan agreed to by both . Your dog may end up a disaster after a few weeks & the person places it in kennels at your costs ,something that needs to be discussed & agreed upon & leaving a copy of its vacc papers if such a crisis happens with the baby sitter . 9 weeks is a long time for an acquaintance to have to manage a strange dog ,i think you need to start seriously looking into what methods will best suit the dog not what is the cheapest for you -
$60 would be considered cheap, simple groom at that cost anything more fancy will cost more as will a knotty coat .

Monitoring weight on a hairy dog
Dogsfevr replied to karen15's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Charts are not always a good resource.if a dog is loaded in front or barrel chested then those charts would suggest to someone the dog is fat when it isn't,just like one of the diagrams saying skinny the dog is long in loin so will be skinny by structure . If you like the weight shes at now then weigh her ,if you have your on scales easy to moniter you just holding her & taking away your weight or go the the vets or stockfeeds that have scales . -
How do you pick her up.alot of people do pick pups up the wrong way & hurt them & the dogs can start to fear what is going to happen. It can be created behaviour or an issue but either way you need assistance to make there isn't something that you are unknowingly doing & how to solve the issue .

anything is doable provided the whole family are committed to the work . Your parents will obviously play a big roll as they will be paying for the grooming unless you have an after school job & are required to pay for that . As a groomer a Bichon every 6/8 if kept in an easy care trim,if your wanting it to look like a show Bichon trim then more often is a must plus daily brushing & combing .Cost most likley from $70 upwards . I guess the big question is is this going to be a family pet or just yours?? Have you also weighed up if you move out next year will you take the dog ,obviously finding rentals can be hard etc etc If your doing Uni will it be local ,interstate or require more travelling. Getting the dog is easy committing fully for the next 12 yrs is something you can only decide

Monitoring weight on a hairy dog
Dogsfevr replied to karen15's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Its easy .as the dog should be groomed weekly you will be easily able to feel & when the dog is having baths again easy to see with a wet coat . We groom alot of fat dogs that owners blame the coat but coat or not its easy to see fat & feel a fat dog when picking it up -
To the OP if colour is a done deal then you will need to be prepared to wait ,if sex is another done deal add more time . What exactly are you looking for that you can't find?? Keep in mind colours makes it more trickier as not everyone breeds for certain colours hence you may need to wait longer . Going to shows is a good start ,chances are you may not see many blacks but what you will see is the natures of the dogs there ,the manner the owners have them trained & many will happily chat to you . You may click with some & not others that happens just like breeders click with some prospective pet owners & not with others . As you live in SA you do have the ability to drive east Breeders all have varying ideas of what they think is correct just like pet owners often have varying ideas of what they want ,Finding the middle ground can sometimes be hard but i wouldn't rush to buy a giant breed ,Finding the right breeder is more important ,Once you start talking you will get a good idea of who you feel comfy with & go from there

The journal only has the schedules in for those events that are current and obviously in those details start times ,location etc etc although those schedules are also online especially if the clubs do online entries ,the calendar Has the year events on it so you can what to attend ,there may be the odd events missing due to not being approved at this point but generally it tells you the club

Take your deposit back and move on,without knowing both sides the question is hard to answer but the relationship is now broken anyway.

What Is So Broken In People That Causes Us To
Dogsfevr replied to Rebanne's topic in General Dog Discussion
Most just don'y want accept it or do the dead ,i think plenty feel if they wait long enough it will die which is a horrible thought . We get people who board there old dogs & you would be surprised how many hope they die whilst in the kennels ,some i swear board over the weekend just hoping it will happen. Not only is that attitude disrespectful to us it also shows how little respect some have for there own dog to want it to die in a kennel. It is often hard the first time but over the years we have learnt that doing it at the right time is way more comforting at that time than regretting & living with the decision to hang on for selfish reasons -

Maybe do a search for canicross/joring which is a very popular sport overseas for trail running etc etc & see what comes up

We no longer heartworm, the risk in our area is low compared to the risks given it. We use to always heartworm but over the years the products keep changing and more issues seem to be cropping up. In our puppy paper work we do not recommend the yearly needle

How Far Do You Walk Your Older Dogs?
Dogsfevr replied to phantomreptiles's topic in General Dog Discussion
5 km is a big distance for an old dog and in summer ,yes your dog is old . Your dog most likely has shown signs before now and now it's really making it known it's struggling a bit . -

Hip Dysplasia Treatments In Sydney
Dogsfevr replied to Cuko13's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I gather the dog has been x rayed to confirm there is an issue?? -
Finding a pup easy ,finding a pup to just breed with difficult.Remember your dream is no different to any good cavalier breeder and even the best produce issues and that is something you need to be realistic about . Puppy listings are irrelevant at present, you need to be contactingbreeders and discussing what your intentions are, what they are trying to do to minimise the risks .You need to see who is out there ,be prepared for lots of questions and many will say no because like already mentioned cavies are popular for cross breeding and people just breeding them

I have always found males to be more loving hence I own boys,it's amazing how many people want girls only when looking for a puppy as they think they will be better..We do have girls here but give me a male any day
