  1. I think the most key element is whether they want a house dog or primarily an outside . once they decide that then they can look at breeds better suited to the living plan
  2. Are you following the breeders diet ,are the pups being feed seperate ,does pup get or eat treats ,
  3. Take a step back and breathe ,your dog MAY have a problem it also MAY not . Dont be fooled many general vets have no clue and get it very wrong hence getting a second opinion from a vet a recommended vet . I will tell you how bad some are for convenience i had to get some x rays done on my old dog for a toe tapping issue so used the one 5 mins away . There response dog needed a double hip replacement, the problem was this clinic thought I was a gullible idiot that wouldn't question there very obvious misdiagnosis and decided to get a second opinion getting his hips re read by a certified reader in Australia ,hips perfect as we knew and could see in the X-rays,score was slightly higher than original score as the dog had severe spondylitis which we could see ,asked vet for written report and they refused ,they where caught out big time ,they even missed the spondo which is a debilitating issue ,they said no big deal . Asked for written report and surprise story changed big time . So first step is ask that vet to do a vet report on what she felt she found at the vet check ,tell them the breeder has asked for it . Some will suddenly refuse to do a report others will but you gave something in writing . Do not under any circumstance be pressured to rush your decision without factual evidence. Ask the vet how many procedures they have Done or do they refer you to a specialist . Be your puppies advocate ask questions and expect to get laymen answers ,do not let them try and baffle you . First off the dog will need X-rays I would not get it done at that clinic UNLESS the vet is one with great experience in there feelings ,getting x Ray placemet is an art itself ,so ask what the clinics history is in xraying in this area ,if they get offended then that says a lot Secondly if it does have HD then you need to look at the pros/cons ,vets rush this thought process often praying on your feelings ,not all cases need surgery . Not sure what clinic you used or where you live but there are clinics out there where vets deal with breeders and x Ray many breeding stock ,there experience is worth a drive too
  4. Honestly vets give me sh"ts in situations like this ,for starters what the vet did is not a typical vet check and would gave copped a mouth full from me . If your breeder is very GSD savvy ( not just a BYB )phone them and explain what happened at the vets .If there a good breeder ask for a vet suggestion in your area or better still I would travel to a good vet to get a proper opinion ,someone here may be able to suggest a vet . Some vet practices seriously have no morals and will trump up business anyway . So do not rush into anything, second opinion at a decent clinic is a must
  5. Old fashioned here ,we don't over worm,we have no need to flea n tick treat and we no longer heartworm ,the risk for heartworm in our area is very small . We recommend the same protocol to our puppy people with adjustments to where they may be located
  6. I doubt it's parvo but if it is I do hope the vet informed of the protocol if managing at home to minimise the risk transfer and have warned any neighbours with dogs or people you visit whom have dogs and that you disinfectant your shoes at the front door . Has she had blood in her stools, has she looked bloated ,passing wind . What other foods has pup got treat wise Have had an adult dog with parvo and they are sick ,the smell of there poo you will never forget and they are sick ,lethargic and ours wanted to hide in dark places . We cared for her at home at night as our vet new us personally but it was touch and go and her recovery was due to seeing the signs early and treating very early. First off I hope you have discussed this with your breeder and asked for there advice . Puppy could simply have colitis . keep it bland ,pumpkin is great for upset tummies . By the same token I would tone Done the playing with the kids ,if this dog is sick then over playing will not help it's cause .Nutrigel is a good product the vet should have suggested it
  7. Yes people go to great lengths and let's face people often post on here I just want a litter . Sadly one of the bigger issues are vets ,some very much encourage breeding and will even recommend clients to each other to breed there dogs too ,no health testing . We have had puppiy owners say but the vet said or the vet nurse reckons ,it is a struggle to ensure even the best of homes not being swayed by puppies or there dog at stud . Even then by allowing later spay you have to trust with male dogs the owner doesn't collect semen to on sell ,trust me many are sneaky In our bred we have numerous vets who just bred ,one even recommends puppy buyers to breed and how to breed for profit . Its funny really when the oodles and the likes took over people are like what sort of breeder would sell dogs to create then ,then when breeders take action it's wrong
  8. No way will our puppies EVER be part of a puppy farm oodle programme & pups sold via pet shops ,that risk is far worse .I can't believe anyone would think it is better for a dog to be bred from this way than spayed early . I guess those with high risk feel the risks are better than being a breeding machine & yes owning a bred that is advertised every weekend as an oodle cross & anything else i feel no guilt what so ever spaying early but feel pride knowing our pups arent part of that industry
  9. Great stuff. When taking pup out make the whole going outside all about fun & the loo. Ideally let pup walk to the door that will be the access to outside & make excitement start inside about going outside (many just pick up walk & outside & place it where it needs to go.) By doing this your teaching pup that door is where it asks to go out or wanders too, even if it may not need to go reward pup for going to the door & letting it out . If you plan to have a doggy door get one sooner than later
  10. Groomer and own kennels .WE are a flea free area. I show dogs ,they are never treated with any flea product and no fleas here. I do appreciate some areas and circumstances can be challenging and require work but where feasible flea free very easy . And my dogs live a very fulfilling life & still don't have fleas, would come in contact with more dogs than most peoples ever will & still don't have fleas. I have coated breed so a flea is not a welcomed thing . Our grooming clients come in 99.9%flea free & the ones who do get a message quick smart about dealing with it .
  11. What you need to remember is at present your teaching pup toileting inside is right not outside so its important irrespective of weather to teach puppy outside is for the loo. The tray is ideally for long stays in the pen when you go out or overnight . If pup is allowed to follow you around the house you will need to either put the tray out for it so it knows that is the loo spot otherwise unless it can jump back into the pen it will be unsure of what "toilet" area is right & will go in the house because that is what it knows .And thus far pup wont be telling you i need out because it doesn't have too
  12. There is nothing stopping you from walking on your front garden ,don't let winter create a bad habits . As for outside its tough love puppy needs to learn outside is a place to toilet and have fun and be independent. If cold put a jacket on but it's important to teach outside time The problem with over using a puppy pen is you train the pup to be over reliant on humans instead of moulding a thinker .
  13. Those packages tie you in to what they sell only ,those clinics make up for the cost via crazy prices for spaying and products . Greencross I believe have brought various chains but under different names .
  14. Do you plan for the puppy to toilet outside ,how much playtime does puppy get in the backyard now
  15. Yes sadly there are select breeds highly sort after for designer breeds so breeders are having to do what is in the best interest . We have a breed that is a popular designer cross & thus far haven't had to enforce pre sale spaying but will do so if required ,so far all our buyers follow the sale contract & we make sure they do unless a very good reason for why at that time it can't . Welcome to the world of good breeders who are dammed if they do & dammed if they don't
  16. I would say any advice given you actually don't want to hear ,goodluck i hope it works out but being retired doesn't make it any easier
  17. so If the breeder won't sell you 2 pups what is the plan then , As a Gundog owner 2 pups in a needy breed is more work than most appreciate Crate training will not reduce separation anxiety ,teaching 2 puppies to be independent of each other and confident on there own and sharing you will .That means leaving one home ,walking one at a time .There bond should be with you not each other If you still thinking of doing tracking then I suggest get 1 first train early set pup up as a good role model for pup 2 and it will work far better . But if your convinced you can do it you need to have a realistic plan of all the things that may go wrong and how to deal with that . And yes I have owned litter mate gundogs of a needy breed and it's trying, time consuming and has its pitfalls when they compete for your attention . Talk to a good breeder there advice should give you the answers to whether your plan is doable
  18. I would not get 2 Vizsla puppies at the same time and doubt a good breeder would recommend it ,whilst I believe it can work in many breeds in this case you have a breed known as a Velcro breed and a very smart functioning multi purpose dog . As far as training classes go I think your underestimating the time each pup will need and not all will sit happily in a crate whilst the other is out that will be a whole training lesson again .If pup is screaming in crate to be with other it will be an issue I would get one ,invest the time to train and get good sound fundamentals, learn its personality and then get a mate that suits that dogs nature ,some are challenging and need lots of brain games some very chilled ,if you end up with two high drive thinkers you will be in for more work than you ever dreamed . As for socialising each to there own but I have never over done it . i would suggest you phone a good breeder and ask them there thoughts on this
  19. No one can suggest a breeder as this is a site for supporting purebred breeders It will be up to you to do your homework
  20. Sadly i only know of one case recently & that dog died
  21. Actually this should not be the case . The breeder is the one who gives you the schedule per there worming schedule.Dogs should not be on flea stuff if not required & again the breeder should be informing the new buyer of what they recommend after all if someone choices to breed its there knowledge they share with the new owners . Given both breeds can be prone to hypos especially Chi i do hope the breeder has openly discussed the signs to look out for & generally Chi breeders vacc when slightly older & place out when slightly older due to the there skull formation ,again hopefully something this breeder is aware of especially choicing to breed cross breed. The OP the questons you have asked your breeder should be telling you ,if they are off no help then i would not be buying a pup from them
  22. If your interested in Irish Water Spaniels there is an excellent breeder in Adelaide who would certainly be able to talk about the breed. Soft Coats we have boarded a few and never had any issues with them ,yes there terriers but many excel in obedience
  23. Pupppy vacs will vary on what the breeder has used ,cost can vary from realistic to over the top . We suggest to our puppy owners to get there puppy vet checked ,we know the pup is healthy but feel it's beneficial for the owners to get a check ,I have never taken a pup to the vet just so they can say hi ,the last place I want to hang around in Age can vary but nothing under 8 weeks placing out can be often between 8/10 weeks varying on the breed some maybe older again
  24. WE encourage all our puppy buyers to get there new puppy vet checked within the first 48 hrs, vets are open 7 days a week so it should be something any new owner should do . AS to talking before getting a pet yeah right ,Some vets are some of the biggest puppy farmers out there, some vets support pet shops chains, some vets are totally clueless when it comes to breed knowledge being a vet doesn't equate to knowing pet ownership
  25. Do you want a dog with coat that needs regular brushing and trips to the groomer or a wash n wear dog
