Breed recommendations for young teen girl's first dog?
Dogsfevr replied to Pailin's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes Collie people will generally happily share there knowledge ,a number of the Rough Collie people grew up as kids with the breed due to parents involvedment . Maybe contact the Collie club and see if they do education days otherwise making a time with a person to talk at a show or simply watch the breed at the show . I see your in QLD ,the Collie National was held during the Brisbane Royal Show and would have been an awesome chance to have seen the breed in large numbers . If she wants to do obedience then getting the right attitude to match really helps . Collie people often have owned Shellie’s as well so can speak about both otherwise there is someone you can talk with about Shellie’s whose kids are in charge of grooming, training etc etc. But a day at a good dog show would allow you to see numerous breeds and allow your daughter to really be final on a Collie or maybe see other options that will work for the family -
Breed recommendations for young teen girl's first dog?
Dogsfevr replied to Pailin's topic in General Dog Discussion
If that answer was that simple . As a groomer many pet owners fail at brushing . As this is a long term project I would imagine your daughters choices will change . Attend dog shows, attend obedience trials and let your daughter see breeds looking true to type and then looking at the real life commitment she must be prepared to commit too. If a Collie is her choice then she needs to see the breed in coat ,understand brushing and the time it takes . Tools that are a must for grooming and making sure she is committed to coat care in her teens ,dog before going out etc etc,You can have both but the dog is her responsibility. If she really loves the Collie breed then maybe the smooth coat is an option ,not serious coat care . I guess what I’m saying does she want a Lassie or does she want a Collie . Thoughts 2/3 is a long time to decide ,let her research all about her time commitments, grooming costs if she doesn’t brush, bathing etc etc . Understanding that a stinky dog sleeping on the bed is no fun . Maybe a Shellie is another option same look but in a smaller package -
Is the dog not allowed in the house by choice .?

How much outside world does pup see ,what sort of human interaction per day does pup benefit from.

Markham was if I remember correctly put down via drugs not gunshot after he went mental in the plane and damaging the stall and the roof
-
Google ,it comes up with vets that do it in SA
-
They say with dogs not to bandage as there systems are different to humans
-
I guess the question is if he is bitten and collapses what is your plan. If you can walk out calmly then it's a bonus . I know many of the Retreiving people carry Vit C to hopefully give extra time but in the end it comes down to what type of snake and how your dog reacts . I would more worried about finding out which vets can treat a snake bite if in that area

Honestly owning a breed with beard I have yet to find a bowl that would do the job you want but never had an issue with yeast and your dogs face is not hairy . Staining like that is due to saliva and often food. Are the dogs feet orange
-
The cruiser bowls and similar will not stop the beard getting wet as there designed for being good if they tip or for long ears. I have the cruiser for my long eared dogs but we also have dogs with beards and they get. The drinking fountain nozzle would be the only real option aka rabbit water bottle

I think without getting the actual info from the horses mouth it's hard to say if dodgy or not .

If it's a puppy flying and aged between 8/12 weeks with Qantas it's suppose to have a vet certificate for fit for flying . Maybe there is confusion between the two parties
-
I would say not true . As someone who has flown with Qantas for years with dogs never heard off this and a vet would not be able to do anything with pets in cargo .

Depends on how bad matts are . A good groomer can show you techniques to brush/comb them out but if they have reached the worse case scenario then it's not fair on the dog to attempt to brush them out due to the pain it causes. Please don't chop them out either ,you can splice through knots with scissors to break them up,use a dematting comb but again some knots will not brush out without causing trauma to the dog

Suggestions feed each dog What agrees with them

If you haven't meet a dog friendly Dobe then you must live under a rock . Helped show Dobes for many years and board them and never had any issues . Sure like any breed the boys can get Toey especially if a bitch in heat but certainly not feral or dog aggressive.

I'm gathering it's a cross of the two breeds in which case no the coat won't be like a Maltese to the floor Has the muzzle been trimmed
-
i guess the question is what do you consider a reasonable fee and what are your expectations of anyone looking after her during that time . Long term care is actually more time consuming than short term especially the first part if the dog frets badly .

All ours are taught to be crated separately . An older dog & a pup would be crated in a different crate
-
Yes some don't always get back BUT as a breeder alot of the email addresses people send from go into our junk mail /spam so i can honestly say unless we open these emails then they don't get replied to . What sort of emails are you sending ,whilst generally a good breeder will reply to any email so many people these days just send an email such as "hey you got puppies"
-
Yes human chlorig can be used but we would do the vets first to make sure there isn't any issues

6 Month old Kelpie suddenly scared of frissbe.
Dogsfevr replied to willg's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first thoughts are soreness ,your pup has done a lot of exercise for its age and frisbee is high impact on growing joints . I would be looking at a dog chiro or Bowen or a vet visit -
We use to feed Ivory coat but started to have issues and the fact they add coconut oil to some of the varieties is a pain ,I have a dog that can not to.erate it . I would just buy the two brands and feed each what suits

Just use a kids pool and line it with vinyl

As your breeder ,they will be more aware of products that may be better suited to your breed
