  1. Is the pup going to be a pet or show dog. Some breeds it’s natural to take longer ,generally but 12/14 weeks if there’s no big change it’s not going to happen . Generally no big deal but be mindful if an outside pup a pink nose will need sunscreen
  2. I say give the volunteer a break . People often don’t volunteer it comes down to no one else putting there hand up so the club goes under . Yes the answer is strange, maybe it’s a generated reply or maybe they just had a sh*t happens moment and sent the wrong reply . i actually don’t see how this gives breeders a bad rep though, tends to prove more that some people expect instant replies and if not what they get or maybe a mistake made people can’t wait to bitch . I say give them a break and Atleast wait for a rep,y before jumping on the whinge bandwagon . Its not like volunteers sit there to serve joe public they have a life too
  3. I would consider yourself lucky to not have had a Lab dig for all those years but also consider in his short life he has had 3 new yards ,alot of change to a dog .Maybe he is feeling insecure when you leave with the change of yard .Maybe look at setting CCTV in that area so you can see what is going on when your out . If hes not been a real digger before then something is interesting enough out there to want to dig .Is the fence type different .The biggest concern obviously if its stratco type fencing & not dug into the ground then yes the dog could dig out . Do you have neighbours there & could they have something interesting on the other side of the fence ,are frogs more verbal in that area ?Do cats toilet around there ,as mentioned different soil .
  4. Best to check your state laws regarding the keeping of a deposit on an item that no longer meets your needs. Personally like others forcing people to pay deposits on unborn, non health checked ,unknown temp or even unknown suitability of a pup or how many survives is shonky but a fad that’s becoming g the norm. Means the breeder has money sitting in there account from how many people . I think you will find you are entitled to a refund and I would be pushing for one Unless you are happy with the new potential breeding .
  5. Place the puppy pads outside . Does she use the doggy door . Also consider pup may have experienced trauma in the yard or very limited access to outside . It sounds like your on the right path
  6. Exactly but the same applies to any bred . Maddy plenty of breeds chase to hunt ,run to hunt Greys are no more special than many breeds and as for your show bred plenty of show bred breeds have great working ability in all breeds but the constant lines from people who go on that Greys are bred to chase refer to running in circles . We all now there history and there history again like many Breeds was to hunt and also be a companion animal and one of status . I own gundogs and they can hunt and chase infact some of my gundogs are more driven than my Greys ever where People just need to use there brains and get a breed with its pros and cons and realise that that can’t turn them into something else but playing and running like a sighthound is different and for many something they have never scene before
  7. Where do you want her to toilet and what is her access to the preferred spot . What methods are you using to encourage toileting in the ideal spot . Is the pup a confidant pup ,nervy pup and what is it’s general behaviour like . Are you using a crate or puppy pen
  8. Disasters happen in any breed and size ,many small dogs start the trouble . Big dogs p,at like a big dog. And bred runs and chases that’s a dog . Selecting a suitable friend for an already existing dog is paramount also accepting some dogs aren’t suited to company is another . I dare say whether this dog is suitable or not an introduction period wasn’t down just a here is the new dogand it’s scared the new owner who thought they where getting a couch potato. As a side note all our Greys played gentler than a Lab,Boxer or Dobe they just leap and do speed and agile quicker. Also people Greyhounds are not bred to chase they where bred to hunt like many other breeds ,This is a pet peeve comment and not all Greys have been near a track or are race bred . Plenty of breeds and dogs do lure coursing and chase that lure doesn’t mean there prey drive is any more higher than another dog . I owned show Greys .i would trust them over many breeds any day of the week the only difference is we understand play types and making sure a dog is happy to live with such a dog . My dogs don’t enjoy playing with Labs due to there pushy, over the top ,in your face no respect play manners .
  9. could be BCC ,make sure your vet is very savvy in diagnosing
  10. Why should he be bred with . As asked above what health testing have you had done,is he mains registered ,in your name and are you a member of Dogs ACT . The Chow community is small so many kennels already use outside lines so your boys pedigree may be off no use to them . I would gather breeders have already to.d you this and have a reason for saying No ,it comes down to whether your interested in listening to there reasons The same would app,y if you wanted to breed ,you would need to source a bitch with lines to compliment your boy. Its not a case of buy a bitch pump out pups and wipe your hands off them ,you are liable for what you breed and the breed doesn’t need breeders just wanting to have a litter .
  11. Is he chasing or is he playing . Keeping in mind Greys play in an exuberant manner and it sounds like you where expecting something different and have a Cavie that isn’t ready for a big dog and a playful one . This dog could have slipped through or it could be quite simp,y a normal dog wanting to play like a normal large breed dog and yes I have owned Greyhounds with small dogs
  12. I would not even trust a trained dog ,the risk is too much Make it dog proof and with a good plan for entertaining a dog for apartment life then doable but it takes a lot of commitment from an owner in all weather to keep an apartment dog mentally amused and content .
  13. We have people out to view but a lot of talking happens prior to weed out the serious people to the I want to play with puppies kind . If you feel uncertainty then trust your head
  14. You need to remember Chloe grew up with a mature dog ,she has grown up with a different style of company through her adult stages . She is not use to it . She needs her space and needs to not fell overwhelmed .
  15. You need to remember Chloe grew up with a mature dog ,she has grown up with a different style of company through her adult stages . She is not use to it . She needs her space and needs to not fell overwhelmed .
  16. Dog will fly fine but phone around those 2 often charge crazy prices . try Baycity travel in brisdie Mooreholme KCR
  17. Limited choices if you want it to sleep outside ,Companion breeds are exactly that thrive on human comapny ,people can certainly work but want there humans when you get home . Is there a reason it must sleep outside .What is your winter weather like. What protection will it have overnight for warmth (especially a small breed)
  18. American Cocker Spaniels can come in a Sable Merle colour . Dapple Dachshunds is a merle
  19. To be honest this doesn't sound that concerning. You have an old dog who is now bombarded with toddlers, running around & an expectation it should just deal with . I get the impression you expect the dog to just resume to its normal way of life now your back & it isn't. Its lived a nice quiet lifestyle with two people & hasn't had to share its home with such over stimulating intruders aka little people . This is not about the age of your parents YOU ALL have to change your mindset & the fact you say lock the dog away shows that & doesn't show alot of feeling for the the poor dog who is obviously feeling anxiety/discomfort even if you cant see it or want to see it. Get a puppy pen ,dog sits in that when your there KIDS learn to not touch or go near the dog .It is unfair to just shut an old dog outside to suit you . 12.5 is old in any breed ,how each dog ages is a factor & lifestyle ,hearing, eye sight Plenty of dogs live daily without a crate & thrive & i agree with the other poster to imply age is an issue with your parents is not very nice ,you may be younger but it doesn't mean your ways are any better either . You need to meet in the middle ,not demand
  20. First mistake presuming pup should know better & be trained. Nope pup is trained to what you have accepted & its not the pups fault.if your frustrated just remember the pup is most likely confused. You havent made a mistake by taking pup outside to toilet that is the right thing to do ,the mistake was presuming its old enough to know better when it isn't .At 4.5 months of age it is a baby still very much looking for correct direction, repetition & reward .You have had pup for maybe 9 /10 weeks & pup has to learn its new home layout, new rules & expectations so very little time to be perfect .I would not consider being on the right path till 6 months if you have followed the good basics as a baby There will often be the odd accident BUT you need to keep on the training routine & good back to basics, shut the door if need be . If pups get distracted they will forget & go inside but more often than not pups that aren't truly confident in what you want & where to go will go to the one place that feels more homely . Get a puppy pen & restrict access of the home ,teach pup to ask to go outside & be prepared to stay out for 10/15 mins. When pup comes inside go straight back out with an exciting & encouraging voice to go toilet ,Reward. Keep in mind this is one of of the simplest issues so you need to be prepared for plenty of other challenges ahead with a young puppy .( i guess you know how your parents felt toilet training you )
  21. Have to agree with some of the comments about not all getting on well together . We board alot of JR half just love there other mate the other half its a constant daily challenge to keep the household sane & safe . If you do decide to rehome one its better to do it sooner than later .2.5 is not old & plenty of time to change the behaviour but waiting a year can add new challenges to the equation & don't feel sorry for the dogs or feel you have let one down if rehoming is the end result because thinking about the long term & happiness of the dogs is more important . Classes are a most & like mentioned so many cowboy trainers out there .It sounds like contacting the JR rescue mentioned could very well be a good start for the right trainer & a great sounding base to help you
  22. Yep if you have brought from a good breeder who health test there dogs they will be your go to person for advice. They should be supplying you with a diet chart but more importantly should send you the diet chart before pup comes home so you have the food ready. Any other questions again your breeder will be able to assist you & love doing so . Your breeder will give you the next worming date to go by & then follow the schedule.Ask them what brand they use & some breeds can react to some brands hence why your breeder can save you alot of grief in the asking department
  23. Actually it will be behavioural and the more you expect the dog to look the more it won’t. Many dogs don’t want to make eye contact no big deal . Chances are the dog is soft and not that confident or in some cases people get pushy around the face and the dog is saying move off .. Lucky nothing happen too the dog
  24. Yes had ons with cancer ,we opted to not put them through the chemo route and never regretted it . The dogs enjoyed quality time for there final stages . I wouldn’t put an old dog through it and yes they do get sick from the chemo
  25. Agree with others with not taki g them home as they will get excited over returning having no clue that there going to leave again. If they have settled then just move on with there new routine
