  1. Yes thas true walthams brought out royal canin but royal canin do not answer to walthams at all. Royal canin is produced in france & the head office is in france & any problems with the product is directed soley to royal canin, was actually speaking with a rep on wednesday. My setter is on euk plus raw because its suits him but for a good budget biscuit you certainly cant go past Bonnie working dog we use it alot & the dogs luv & are in great condition
  2. firstly lets say the dog has you well trained it doesnt want its bum brushed & its all to hard so you do it less. The fact is the dog will allow you to brush there if you become the leader & not except the behaviour. In a breed like collie the bum area needs to be brushed regualr especially in summer to ensure the ags arent there & to lesser the risk of her becoming fly blowen & we have groomed a few collies that have become that why & its awful.
  3. Firstly what exactly are you feeding & in what quantity? What medications or natural alternatives is she on to help ease pain?? Suitable diets can come in many forms but there success is totally reliant on the humans to follow it through, thus meaning no tidbits unless healthly & meal size adjusted for treats. The dog isnt going to hoon around the back yard so you need to feed for an elderly dog that isnt active Exercise is something very simple & the main aim is to keep the dog moving to ensure joints dont get over stiff or unused, ensure that bedding is soft & suitable. Just walking to the letter box & back a few times a day keeps the body functioning.
  4. I think you,ll find the hydrobathing service would still be cheaper & easier long term
  5. Glad my dogs arent there that is not good at all.people pay good money to have there pets boarded & should be feed correctly
  6. I would say your stuffing around to much being cautious instead of being quick & confidient. Its very easy place dog on a table ,with a firm but gentle grip say sit open mouth quickly place tablet in mouth then blow into the dogs throat. It takes all of 5 secs but the longer you take the more wary the dog becomes. The food trip more than often works but we just place tab there blow rub throat asap & its all done
  7. Canine cough is air borne so your dog may never go out but it can still get it & we have found those vaccinated with c5 got canine cough more & worse than the dogs with c3. c7 i have no intentions of using this but i know the RSPCA dogs are vaccinated with c7,i believe its the lepto jab that has caused issues in the US & there know vaccinating for individually instead of in one jab & at an older age than the puppy vacc. The fact is whilst vaccinated they still can get any of the ailments what the vacc does is hopefully minimize the potential of the disease but then it comes down to a dogs immune system at the time & how quick the owners react during the illness.
  8. yes a dog will show when its tired but it needs to be at home not half way through a walk. I have setters which are a large breed, they free run alot but i do walk from 12 weeks. I will go half way down the street & back for quite a while then at 6 months to the end of the street & back & then after that as far as i feel the dog can go without stress or over doing it. The problem is pups will go the distance we will but it doesnt mean its good for them. I believe the socializing is important & i also believe the short walks encourage co ordination skills for clumsy pups, as to muscle tone that will develop with the age of the pup & built up carefully. Just use commonsense
  9. If its brushed correctly it wont matt its as simple as that unless it has some other reason to create the knots. I have setters with soft silky coats which are brushed every wednesday during there full maintance bath & at shows other than that no brushing. A soft bristlle brush is totally useless & just brushes over the coat not penetrating to the skin.A comb is fine if also used through to the skin. If this dog has alot of puppy fluff then you need the right combs to cope with his type of coat & cutting the knots out whilst easy leaves the hair with so many lenghts that it looks awful. Yes a slicker brush is a must ,the comb you have & a good matt breaker ,the matt breaker removes knots easily & also thins the coat & helps remove the crappy coat which is what knots. The matt breakers do require gentle use but used correctly are worth there weight in gold. If your groomer is a good one they should be able to show you the tools you need & how to use them correctly it only takes about 10 mins to show someone. Some shampoos/conditioners can help create knots & if i oil my male setter he will matt over night so i spray nothing on his coat & wash him in pantene smooth & sleek & he never matts runs an acre & gets week as anything.
  10. 2 meals isnt enough for a feeding mum ours get 3-4 meals a day. Chicken mince whilst appealing has no iron & is really a bland diet the raw hides are a waste of time & offer a feeding mum nothing. mutton/lamb mince & anything else she will eat is better than nothing, feeding mums often go through the fussy/picky stage & whilst some meals arent on the top of the list for a good diet eating is more important.
  11. heads & tails (human) is great for sensitive skins & is very soothing we only use the human stuff as we find the dog stuff just doesnt do the job for gentle washing
  12. No particular ratio just a decent blob especially if using the long life goats milk,if feeding a newborn we prefer to use fresh goats milk but it isnt always easy to get but we still add a a little full cream.
  13. We dont use either ,we use goats milk but we always add a little full cream into the mixture to ensure the fat balance is there & had no probs using this
  14. We dont worry about how much it will cost if it has to be done then it is. It is illegal to bury your dogs & more because of disease it can casue in the ground. We have all ours cremated,we have 10 lovely urns with our beloved ones in,last month i had to have 2 brothers PTs on the same day & they share a beautiful pottery urn with a lovely saying on it. As far as were concerned if we move our departed ones come with us,although we did sprinkle the ashes of our young greyhound when he did as he luved running our property so he is a free spirit
