  1. No judgement but the truth ,someone who choices not to do right by there dog is selfish. This person wont do what is best for the dog for no good reason but is content with having an obese dog that is suffering "cranky" you beat
  2. Geez owner created aggression :D Remember there is no point seeking training advice if all family memebers arent willing to change there attitude to being a responsable owner,at present your using your dog as a form of entertaiment & not treating it in a way that a dog should be & now the dog is paying the price for what everyone thought was cute or what ever other silly reason. As said if you dont seek help your dog will only get worse & if declared dangerous or bites the outcome will not be good for the dog & remember it wasnt the dogs fault. He doesnt listen as he has no respect for any of you. Its seems you want your cake & eat it a well behaved dog isnt boring but a safe animal that is a pleasure to own & take out in public ,you either want a well behaved dog or stick to what you have??? Also dont go up to dogs in cars to get there attention that isnt responsable nor fair on the dogs ,
  3. "She isnt killing it with kindness" she killing it because shes selfish. People who are so selfish to feel its okay to kill there own dog or give it chronic health issues are cruel owners in another form. Who in there right mind would want to shorten the life span of your dog ,give it athritis & yes diabetes, heart etc etc Dogs give unconditional luv but some owners just dont return it in the same deserving way :D
  4. Simple tell them there pom will look like a chihuahua
  5. Alainnah that is expensive stuff for the pet person especially there brushes,i dont use them as i feel for the cost my other brush does better. Depending on what your looking for i would stick to good basics.Discuss with your breeder at the show what they suggest. For a good basic pet person i would suggest a good gentle slicker,a good comb . A slick & easy stone that you can use on the top coat or coat king depending on the coat.If the dog is being proffessionally trimmed a few times a year that will also keep the feet, throat & coat in order but alot will depend on the coat texture as englishes coats can vary in maintence levels depending on the texture
  6. Alainnah discuss with the breeder the right tools whilst at the show, they can save you alot of money if you purchase wasted products. I dont use a slicker on my showdogs but for pet people the right one isnt an issue.I use the plush puppy brush but that is purely useful on a show washed coat & a comb in between maintaince baths i dont brush ,we do have mason pearson but dont find them as good as the plush puppy. My setters do have heavy coats but the key is maintence good maintence then it doesnt matt
  7. All students woory about is learning, either the lack off or thrilled with so much learning. Whilst some clubs do prefer some methods when push comes to shuve you are training the handler & the dog with what works best
  8. Mince feed often to mini is a nono & one of the causes of stones,we certainly tell people in our diet sheets to feed that maybe twice aweek & not cooked, cooked takes all the goodness out plus ofcourse minis are prone to pancreatitis so too much red meat is a nono again. Minis are a double coated breed & there diet needs to be very particualr for coat & health reasons, what you are feeding we wouldnt & dont. Talk to your breeder as bad skins in minis appear very quickly through a bad diet & its a nightmare
  9. mini schnauzers are hoovers,we have breed them for years & give them cheese but what we dont give lots of due to stones is meat so depending on what your home cooked food is that could be worse. Minis are not picky eaters . our puppy diet is based on a good dry food plus extras but with your issues i suggest you contact your breeder who you can work with as they guarantee there diet or may suggest some alternatives
  10. Most working setters have such little hair as it is it isnt worth clipping & what they do have gives them protection. Once you clip the coat it ruins the texture & grows back odd colurs & often cottony. Personally i would by a dog suit from the states which protects the coat plus lets them work still or just put the hardwork in in. As for oils just purchase the avon skin so soft Most of the field working setters that are aslo showen with massive coats are still keeped in coat . A 10# will be fairly severe on a fine coat ,depending on the coat & if you truely want to trim the feathering of i would use a #4 or#3 stills leaves a little covering without scalping it .I use a 10/15# on the throats & that leaves it very short
  11. I cant use hills due to the wheat /corn aspect my breed can be intolerate to it. Our old girl gets proplan light & pedigree mature tin, whilst many will say no tin when they get old finding a diet thats suits there needs & stomach can consist of things we may not prefer to use,our oldie has blossomed on this diet ,her stomach has settled & she has got a new zest for life so we are happy. Oldies diet is trial & error & something mild
  12. We take our dogs to the chiro /bowen before a vet,the vets first course of action is drugs. The people we use now the muscles & what course of rehab is required. Alot of vets havent a clue ,just because a dog is limping on the front doesnt mean thats where its sore. I now from the 20 plus yrs we have used them i have learnt so much from them to the point they now respect our knowledge aswell. The benefits in any competitive dog is amazing
  13. I get my dogs checked by bowen & dog chiro every month no matter what better to maintain & athlete then let problems develop
  14. You can only roll the coat for so long & after a while it statrts to look tacky & when you roll the coat your actually just breaking the top coat, when push comes to shove you have to strip right back to keep a good coat in the end
  15. Miss yes we use them to maintain a good show coat plus it can be used for stripping the coat fully.
  16. Mick no your are not wrong & if you go to dogshows you will see many pups of 3 months wearing chains & there is absolutalely nothing wrong with it. Dogs that are showen with chains are well adjusted ,outgoing & have no problems with them so dont fell pressured or worried
  17. The type of methods mentioned would be used to maintain the coat but to keep the correct coat you would have to hand strip back to skin when the coat blows(dies)strippng the coat is done over a few weeks & in sections so when the coat grows it grows neatly & uniformed as they kneck, head & tail area grow quicker than the back coat, this process is done 2-3 times a year is very hardwork . You still need to clip the throat, ears, bum & scissor the feet, under belly, eye brows etc. We dont strip pets ,even though we breed them if the pet people want the dog stripped then we teach them as we keep hand stripping done to the smallest of numbers as long term it isnt great on your joints, fingers elbows etc a price you pay for stripped coats. Stone wont do the job ,hand stripping is the only way & the schnauzer club of vic do have grooming days etc
  18. The dog needs a good hydrobath & blow dry ,the quicker the coat comes out the quicker the coat will return.
  19. To be honest more downs than ups, have done this jod for 13 yrs & its hardwork & requires continous spending, luckily for us we have all he good equipment for our showdogs
  20. optimiun is the old performance brand. Those Hills prices are amazing ,actually nearly fell of my chair
  21. Thats the thing about foods optimiun gave our dogs the runs, they lost alot of weight & condition ,supercoat a lost cause hills i cant feed due to an ingredient that could be an issue with my breed.Royal canine is now available through a stockist here in WA but for the price we found there was no difference in the dogs compared to eukanuba,i guess where lucky through our business we can get the breeders bag eukanuba 20kg for $75,Bonnie we have found works well with the kennels but they changed an ingredient in the bonnie performance so we no longer use it as it affected the dogs
  22. Okay the only cheaper brand food we have feed & would feed is Bonnie working dog,its 15kgs for about $30,we use it it through the kennels as it suits so many dogs, keeps good condition & doesnt affect there tummies,so maybe give that one a try
  23. Well my veiw is its cheaper to pay more & keep the dog in good condition than payless & they lose condition which then requires more money spent
  24. The way i see it is your concerned that the dog has an health issue so unfortunately despite the $$$ the people intending to take this dog need to be made fully aware of any known health issues prior to taken the dog on. Patellas could cause soreness but if it is me the money saved testing is nothing compared to things going wrong. Have the new people been told about the patella prob??
