"I have been told if you take them out all the time theydont let you know and just wait for you quietly " If you dont take them out how do they learn,by taking pup outside regualar;y & rewarding the dog learns that outside is toilets & to hang on. We have a doggy door so they dogs learn very early they have access at anytime because many people who dont allow access miss the cue & the dog has toileted & learns nothing. Some will teach there dog to ringa bell or push a buzzer to ask to go out but for us we encourage all our puppy owners to allow access for the pup & to take them out as many times to re inforce outside is for toilets

Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia
Dogsfevr replied to ShellyBeggs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sadly it seems the outcome isnt great but some dogs do survive the intitial part & then its a battle to maintain there health afterwards.I now someone whose dog has passed the 6 month after mark but it has been very expensive with alot of unknowns on the journey. -
Put her on a lead, give her a "command" word & stay with her

Yep a goldies coat does grow back thicker & that awful undercoat grows back more & the good correct coat is ruined. There is no clip as already said there not suppose to be & generally a good brush through with the correct undercoat rakes gets out the coat that sheds, matts & makes them hot.

I okay i will done the Flame suit but i think your making more out of it than it really is & the dog will feel your reaction. Dogs having a tainty in hydrobath is very normal especially the first time. It doesnt sound like the girl did anything wrong ,she may have fluffed it over in your view but when dealing with the public one has to be very public savvy dealing with dogs. If you get too firm many owners think your being rough, your dammed if you do dammed if you dont but for me i just say try again sooner rather than latter & dont worry with given rememdies or potions. Speak to the girl before hand & simply explain what you want to happen with commands etc & bath away. We boarded the police dogs & they where the most ill behaved, manic dogs to hydrobath but they still worked

We are a very mutli dog household but i always say to people remember the saying"2 is company 3 is a crowd" 3 dogs can work out great or it can be a disaster & if the 2 you have now get on very well then i would seriously consider why 3 would be better. Would you be happy to walk & control 3 dogs etc etc We bred minis & yes they like company but we find ours will often pair off for play & not interact as much with some . I agree do check with your local concil & then consider the additional expense of a 3 dog

so I chase her - which she thinks is a great game. This is your answer here " I know its giving in to her game by chasing her, but what else am I supposed to do?" realize she is 10 weeks old & stop expecting miracles especially when you havent trained her to now any better,The dog is doing exactly what you are training her to do "run" . As for things like shoes & toys then im sorry to say but if you leave them laying around then expect to loose them. Electrical cables are more serious & you need to look at the safety issue & prvide adequate measures until the dog understands . "we are doing really well on the training aspect so far." Well actually no,if your dog is running away from you then it doesnt respect you or you are giving it confusing commands. I do ask when you do finally catch her do you tell her off or praise her.she may very well be running the other way as she knows she is in trouble
-
I would say pup was crying as it wanted to go to the loo & thats why it had the runs. You cant ignore a crying pup all the time.Pups cant hang on & part of toilet training is rewarding them for barking to go out. Some dogs that try so hard to hang on can end up with the runs from the stress of toileting in there area . I would be more inclined to buy a crate & crate train pup as it will be a great benefit any time latter life especially with a child with special needs

I've been told about one vet will do a C5 for $25 without a check up I would run fast from any vet who didnt do a basic health check before a vacc was given.

I use green dish washing detergent first .I always do a prewash to get the grub out & then white shampoo I have tried sards but found it dried the coat & left it harsh . The key is maintance

What Shampoo? (whitening Shampoo)
Dogsfevr replied to jackson888's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I dont use either . The trick with whitening shampoos is to use the one that best suits your dog & its coat. Some absorb the whitening too much & become blue. The trick is maintance. Also wash the legs in green dish washing detergent first -
I feed twice & find it very easy to do correct portions & find the dogs are much more content

Welcome to the world of thing groomers have to deal with. I would most certainly do it again & it all comes done to the handling & not pandering to the dog.Being confidient, patient & in charge. Some dogs are simply feral in the hydrobath & never accept it but will stand still & tolerate the few mins it takes

In our household all are left when eating,we dont train them because they respect that what we do is for a reason & no need to fear ,protect or eat faster. Gulpers always become worse when you interfear. If you have a gulper stick a tennis ball in,soak the food. Bloat is caused by many reasons & the stress of eating there meal faster due to a hand being there is more likley to be bloat stresser. In our house mealtime is that ,bowls are placed all dogs eat ,all finished in 5secs bowls picked up,good dogs. If you have kids then put yourself out & feed in an appropriate safe zone or when children are sleeping. Giving treats can be the best teaching tool & there taught to do a job.Our showdogs will free bait for ages because the reward will come & they dont fear what where doing. teaching them to do tricks for food or waiting will be more benefical than harrassing them at major meal times & creating a bigger problem
-
It will be the Hills U/I diet for which most dogs dont do any better on. Stones is prevalent in our breed & is often diet related with too much red meat. One client whose dog suffered badly asked her doctor & did an internet search on the human diet & made up a home made meal after having her boy on the tinned for a year with no result. This isnt to say for the first week or so the tin wont be benefical but it normally costs for a cartoon over $100. Also stick the dog on cranberry tablets
-
Well the first thing would be not to do games that inflame the joint, ball chasing causes all sorts of joint issues at the best of times but if the dog is suffering afterwards i wouldnt be doing it. If you do alternative games then you wont need to give pain killers for that problem. You can do all sorts of natural stuff its a case of what works for each dog

We find most owners who request clip offs think thats how there groomed. We always explain why a cavie isnt normally clipped,we explain the affect it will have on the coat & we ask what they want the dog to look like. 99% of the time the owners didnt want the dog clipped off so make sure both parties understand. We do have 4 we clip off & depending on the thickness off the coat it varies from an #8.5 too a #7,rarely a #5 as it sprouts everywhere. With the clip offs we dog the body & leave the ears & tail although the ears may be clipped to look fluffy

How Long To Clip & Groom A Maltese/shitzu
Dogsfevr replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am very offended by the comments made by a couple of people. It's a shame others have to be so bloody rude. Sorry if your offended but if your bathing in that time your saying you can clip a dog in 35 mins i still say no way unless its a every 4-6 weeks & not much of trim & the dog is in perfect condition . I consider myself to be a very good groomer too but i wouldnt rush a dog in that time . Chocolate the behaviour of the dog impacts the time greatly. Some dogs freak at the clippers so patience is a must ,some dogs have no idea how to stand.some simply just fight you as they have no idea & until they understand whats expected it takes aslong as it does. Some dogs come in so matted every time they fear the groomer as there the one who is doing the dirty work & although you can see the life come into the dogs faces once matt free but they associate the groomer with the unpleasantness. The coat condition is also a big factor if the knots arent too bad they can be groomed out but we dont rush this either,it does hurt even with the best tools used We find most shih tzus & cross fluffies to be little monsters to groom at first & yes most hate there front legs being done but with patience, training & consistancy they soon learn to co operate. many of the little fluffies generally dont go to the groomer until there 12 months & overgrown & beyond the owners ability to maintain so it can be very tiring on the dog & the first clip is very important as it will have 12 yrs of this. We also never drug a dog, some groomers will give the dog sedatives so they co operate better for us thats not an option -

Dogsfevr replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
45 minutes are you serious. There is no way we would do it in that time even if it was a close clip off. presuming the dog is co operative (stands still, accepts the clippers, hair dryer etc etc) ,depending on the type of trim you want & the type of knots & without rushing the dog hour/half. We charge $50 Maltese & cross malts often have paper thin skin so much care is needed not to cut them so we never rush -
English Vs American Cocker Coats
Dogsfevr replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The parti coloured yanks shed more than the solids but by no means are they heavy shedders. There is only 1 place that i now off that specializes in this cross & as a past breeder of americans its devasting. Both poodles & americans have health issues. Both can be affected by cataracts,PRA.Plus other breed specific issues. Both have very different coats & the cross ends up like a overgrown woolly matting sheep. The 2 breeds also have very different natures & within the americans parti colours can have a very different temp to the solids. -
Has Anyone Had To Amputate A Dogs Leg?
Dogsfevr replied to Mushaka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Showdog,..the vet is suprised the dog can even walk. He has multiple fractures in his pelvis. No amount of therapy is going to reallign it. Ofcourse it isnt but people forget when the dog compensates to other muscles/legs they pay the heavy toll & thats where bowen comes in to help maintain what working that the dog requires even if amputated. When the dog gets up it most likely does on the same side & really hauls its body up compared to having 4 legs working.Muscle tone builds up differently . I had a dog who was partially paraylized ,we did all sorts of bowen etc to ensure what worked stayed in top shape especailly before they get older because once arthritis & the such set in dogs with 3 legs do suffer greatly then as did my boy who still had 4 legs & in the end thats why we had to PTS because his body could no longer cope in getting him around -
Has Anyone Had To Amputate A Dogs Leg?
Dogsfevr replied to Mushaka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would never amputate. I would certainly be trying anything ,you could vet wrap the foot, the boot, tape wrap.I would also be taking the dog to bowen theraphy because the dogs muscles would be strained elsewhere -
Broken ribs can happen from rough play, banging into something whilst playing . I guess if you are going to query anything is why the person didnt contact the owner regarding the limp or simply go to the vet. A friend had a dog with broken ribs after playing to hard & she showed it for a few months, our chiro picked up the ribs because they didnt ,It certainly wasnt obvious but it was a table dog & every time the person picked it up it wasnt happy for obvious reasons. All i can say is if the vet is 100% positive it is a kicked injury & there happy to put it in wriiting then maybe you could do something but i dont the vet will as there can be so many real reasons why it happened
