  1. The hair wont wear away it may wear in patches. Cavies are suppose to have natural feet (no trimming) but nearly all the cavies we groom we do take there slippers off . If you have a hairhouse warehouse or similiar they sell 5 inch scissors which are great for feet trimming. They must be sharp otherwsie the hair will clump not cut
  2. Any dogs that turns up with something suss we wont groom. It rarely happens but from the minute it enters your establishment its contagious, you need to scrub everything(blades, brushes, bath, towleswashing machine, yourself, crates etc plus inform other clients that a contagious dog came in & they need to seek vet treatment) It costs you money & stress
  3. Are you still wanting to show?? As for irish you are very aware of its needs but also consider those breeding them. Are they from working lines or show lines?? Obviously if you want to show you need to learn to groom so added expenses for the future ,if you want to show the great dane then its wash & wear The great danes are great dogs obvioulsy require early training which any breed requires. The main pitfall they tend not to have a long life span.I believe 8 years of age is a good iinnings Until atleast 2 years they are still growing so exercise as a youngster will be more minimial. On the 3 may there are 2 shows on that will have a good turnout of both breeds . The gundog club & non sporting dog club both start at 9am
  4. Chicken wire under the grass is great .Infact our entire dog runs for the boarding kennels have chicken wire under the grass for the diggers & it works a treat. I agree the concrte path or even paving would be the best solution that will work asap. Mind you being a Koolie be sure when older he doesnt go over the fence some are great jumpers
  5. The implant is well known for decreasing the size of the testicles. I have friends who have used it on an old dog & i dont have an issue with that but i dont think i would use it on a young dog considering you may need to desex latter on any .
  6. If hes dominant now using him at stud will most likely increase his all male attitude. Some males after stud work can become more toey & difficult, inclined to pee up everything. Some couldnt care aless but its important to understnd that some males after stud can certainly become alot more effort. Have you showen him at all??
  7. If it was as simple as spitting in there mouths there would be no pack issues world wide. As for fondling a dog to get respect Any bloke that believes this to works has serious issues. Collecting semen, natings is very different to simply wanking the dog for no good reason at all except to claim "respect" . If people simply treated there dogs like dogs all would be fine. People insist on treating them like little humans or accepting bad behaviour as "cute" Dogs are people pleasers & one that respects you as the leader willl be the most loyal pet ever. Most dogs pitfalls are simply due to owners lack of commonsense when dealing with animals & trying to create something they arent for the human pleasure
  8. Liza i meant what brands(should have said) It will give an idea of what diet she has now & what could be adjusted to make it more affordable. For example if you like the roll idea then i highly recommend the Tuckertime rolls,Far superior to the supermarket brands
  9. What is she being feed now?? Every vet will have a differing opinion of diet . What your mum needs to remember is dogs are just as prone to health issues as humans & via the kennels monthly we are boarding diabetic dogs due to what the dogs have been feed,Increased numbers of dogs with heart problems. With there obesity early arthritis. Pancreatitis due to the fatty of cuts & when a dog gets this its for life & causes devasting pain for the dog All issues that often man made & very costly to maintain & lowering the life span. Feeding a good basic diet isnt that expensive but there is no point feeding quality if iits always getting junk food
  10. I would do a deal with your mum you buy the food she can pay the vet bills due to what she feeds. Okay so your in perth . You can go to better pets & gardens & buy raw mutton 1kg for $3.95.They also have beef, roo, kennel mix & chicken That would be a min of 4 meals for a dog of your size. They also sell chicken neck/.wings(not sure of price). There mutton mince is excellent quality You can buy lamb flaps.Tuna,yoghurt. They do sell the barf patties at $19.95 which would last your dog about 2 weeks added to the dry. Dry food is great but often better to buy a big bag that will last longer
  11. I would lead walk & use a towel or similiar to make a sling that will go around her belly. When walking use the sling to support but allow her to feel at her own pace. This is the method used on our dog after back surgery went very wrong & we had to build the rear end.
  12. We have plenty of dogs in boarding on propalin & not one has had any issues but the results have been amazing. I would be changing her sleeping habits & waking her up to go outside during tha time frame.
  13. I agree your pup isnt toilet trained as yet.It is heading in the right direction but at that age you never think its "trained".You must always be in training mode until atleast 10 months. You need to stick to the basic routine
  14. Dont take forever. The longer you take the more reason the pup has to worry something different is about to happen Just open mouth pop it in & blow. Takes all of 5 secs. If theyw ill eat it in there main dinner then go for that option
  15. every breeder dreams would be they grow out of it but it doesnt happen that way. HD is a problem for life & the degree of severity varies as to the quality of life each dog has
  16. Brushing is the best way.Mine get there teeth brushed a min of 3 nights a week & every night if possible as some dogs no matter how much they chew just dont keep them clean
  17. With eyes i would always be worried the infection may cause blindness Maybe ask what meds they would like to use & then research
  18. I hate the stuff makes the coat all clumpy & dirty looking .rebath for any day
  19. With any surgery the end result is the after care. If crating was the best option then crating it shall be
  20. How long since her heat & the behaviour changes??
  21. Have you contacted the breeder & exolained what the vet has said?? If your breeder uses agood vet i would very surprised they have missed it but now plenty of vets who diagnise murmours when they dont have them. Speak with the breeder & then go to the vet for another follow up & they should be explaining the grade etc etc or atleast suggest a heart specialist whoi can certify it

    Rough Play

Mannners starts the day they come home. Your little dog has every right not to enjoy a bositrous pups company & giving the little one time out or a safe area is a must. You dont want your dog to become aggressive nor teach the pup to be that way either. Playing with a pup should be in moderation due to them growing ,some pups just dont now when to stop & there is atime to casually step in & do a time out for all parties.. Dont presume she is dominat. Dominance & lack of manners can look the same but not be the same. Biting is totally unacceptable but one always must look at how the took the item. Some people dont give the dog the same respect in removing an item.It works both ways in ensuring both have an understanding of what is expected & allowed. At present it sounds like a typical outgoing goldie baby that hasnt been taught the basics. Its time for obedience & its time for you to not be so convient for baby sitting.
  23. No it isnt the kennel fault as a client has brought it in. Canine cough is readily caught anywhere & it is the most annoying part of being a kennel owner because it only takes one dog to come in & it goes through all dogs. Vaccinated doesnt stop your dog getting it. Your dogs could have been infected prior too or someones dog was a carrier with no symptons but it most certainly isnt the kennels fault.
  24. Settrlvr - do you not have any problems with biting dogs, spinning dogs etc. Biting dogs are muzzled.I would never rely on a grooming restraint to stop a biter. Spinning.sitting dogs are just part of the deal & we just spend a little more time to educate them but with the right handling they learn very quickly. Some dogs in restraints absolutely flip out .Its a case of making the next experience a better one.
