  1. our dogs get heartworm only. We have no fleas so we dont treat for what we dont have.We worm when required The only time i do use a spot on is when i travel east & thats due to the other animals on the flight. I use Advantix when i do.
  2. I too think it was case of getting the injection before the true reaction appeared . You where probably lucky to get the injection early & the reaction delayed.
  3. I just use the human "micro flora" with no issues at all & with great success
  4. I agree ask the breeder ,you have already had incorrect answers so surely you would want the right answers from the right person
  5. You dont have to pester your breeder simply email(if she has it) asking for a diet sheet so you can shop before pup comes home. All our puppy owners get there sheets a week before pup goes either by email or at there final visit. What diet to feed isnt pestering
  6. all my dogs from pups go on gluco but any lameness/soreness is investigated asap whether that be through bowen or the vet
  7. What diet did your breeder suggest?? Ditch the steak & the weetbix. Being apig can be due to many reason. Not being feed enough, having meals interupted or they are simply a pig. You can place a tennis ball or something large that they have to eat around. Everyone will suggest & feed something different so most likely you will still be confused & some diets arre more suited to certain breeds than others.
  8. Your pup should be feed the diet the breeder suggest & if you wish to change it discuss this with your breeder. Many of the breeder guarantees are based on you following the diet in there puppy packs & if you choice to not feed it & things go wrong you will the breeder will be annoyed. You also need to understand you cant just change the diet over night & this is for the pups benefit not yours.Extreme diet changes can cause upset tummies which will make the pups toilet training & transition into your home a very unsettling one. You also have to understand that not all foods are suitabel for all breeds & whilst one diet may sound great it can be totally inappropriate for that breed so i suggest you have a good talk with your breeder about the diet you would like to feed & whether down the track that would be suitable for a poodle
  9. "Just before he ran full pelt towards my 15mth old and snatched the dummy out of my sons mouth, knocking him flying in the process." is your 15 month old son trained fully?? No.You have a young pup that needs continual training ,repetition & boundaries. 7 month old pup is no different to your child. It does naughty things & it learns by what is it taught. Have you been to obedience?? Whats its daily learning ?? Whats its daily exercise/mental stimulation?? A bored Lab is a feral lab ,
  10. Poodlefan so true & sadly many owners end up so disappointed when things do go wrong. Diet is all about common sense & the individual dog & here we have dogs on different diets because they do better on there individual programme .Its a right royal pain but it isnt a case of one diet suits all
  11. Lets just say we dont feed barf although we do feed half dry/raw in over 24 years of breeding we have never had a C section. Only ever had 1 deformed pup & we now why. I have friends who only feed BARF & swear by it others like me who have seen no real benefits than commen sense feeding & in fact in my breed those who have chosen BARF have sen an increased issue in certain health issue due to feeding this way. Not all breeds can tolerate this form of feeding & you certainly need to understand what health issues your breed can be predisposed to. We had one of our puppy buyers recently who changed to BARF & the dog is now experiencing health issues that are related to too much red meats
  12. We hand strip within reason. You have to realize though depending on the coat it wont be done in one go & wont be cheap & you will still need to work on the coat weekly anyway to maintain it. Depending on the nifes you use also depends on the results. Having said that we are booked out for 8 weeks & i truly dont now many groomers that hand strip correctly & many say yes but dont really now. For the legs i would suggest you go a horse shop or the canine dog shop & buy slick n easy stone
  13. I have 2 dogs highly allergic to bees & have injections from the vet i take every where. I wouldnt put the dogs through the desensitizing just prefer to be more aware & ensure there are no plants which attract.
  14. If you are happy with the groomer you find i suggest you book your next appointment at the same time. 80% of our clients book for the next 12 months Yesterday & today has been a nightmare on the phone with the hot weather
  15. I would suggest you start phoning & see who has spots for that time.We are currently booked out 8 weeks in advance & most good groomers will be the same. Shampoo just supply your own if you use a product your happy with
  16. You will need a Vari crate which will be easy in canada. Ask your breeder if they now any shipping agents . You will need an agent to do it for you & then work out the exact dates to so quarantine space can be booked. There will be different people at different prices with different ideas on the route to be taken. Friends who have brought dogs from the US have opted for an over night in the UK & then flown on.
  17. We have taken an 8 week old BUT all ours start regularly with Bowen from 3 months. We prefer to start early especially during there clumsy stage PLUS i also feel not every pup has an easy birthing process so things can happen early. We have used a chiro for well over 20 years but prefer our Bowen person BUT they must be good
  18. We wont clip off unless in such a bad state its in the dogs best interests or the dog is very elderly or has a health issue that agin being clipped off makes the quality off life better for the dog. We will brush out & educate the owner & hope they come back which most do. Many groomers simply clip off without informing the owners so they presume that is the norm. Yes it does stuff there coats.
  19. Teething can play havoc & they can go days & weeks picking at there food. My current youngster has just finished this process. For a month or so it was a pain with food due to teething but now back to being a hoover. I did hand feed my boy BUT it was done during training sessions so any food he got was his reward for learning as he would aeat more this way BUT dont hand feed for no reward . Basically dont pander either & chop & change. For my boy re adding some goats milk did the trick
  20. Agree seek more specialized help. You also need to consider the other dogs when your pup is going feral.Whilst yours needs socializing it shouldnt at the expense of the other pups & basically all the socializing in the world wont help until you understand how to control the pups, its triggers & your reaction.Once taught this you will find things will happen far quicker & you will be able to control the pup.
  21. Betadine or similiar here.We dont use Dettol except for hosing the backyard ,it smells great for days
