  1. yep very common & generally those in the know just get it fixed when it first happens as it does return. It could be a month latter, year latter or what ever. You can learn to push it back in but generally the more it pops out the bigger it gets. Our local vet does it . Tacking doesnt always last either & often the stich can annoying so generally the best option is to remove & it be all over. Some can accasionally end up with dry eye but you can simply use eye lubrication ointment from the chemist. We have never had one but i did breed a breed highly predisposed to them.I am fully aware from fellow breeders wher it has happened with what there experiences where & all started with the cream, pop it yourself ,the tack to get it out now. Shouldnt cost you a fortune & a specialist doesnt need to do it.
  2. so did you leave them all day by your choice or did they groomer say how long they had to stay or did you drop off & pick up after a set time for there groom only?? As to mixing no it would never happen here.Clients are paying for a grooming service & if mixing was a thing they wanted to offer then they should be getting you to sign a contract such as doggy daycare etc etc
  3. so how many hrs total a day does she spend. During work hrs can she not be left anywhere else??
  4. The dog shop at the canine grounds sells them(open this sat/sun all day)
  5. we get them done asap. You can leave them but its often results in a deformed ear. Some vets in Melbourne are using a different method which doesnt require surgery & the resukts are great.I will be finding out this method for future use here
  6. we had clients who feed EVO & it made the dogs drink so much .I cant remember what it was ingredients wise but i do remember looking & thinking OMG. These dogs where a breed prone to bloat ,they stopped feeding & the dogs no longer drink gallons a day
  7. just take it in your luggage.Thats what i do with my food
  8. Unless the dog is a lazy one i wouldnt consider that diet to be over the top, infcat mine would be under weight on that. Does the dog pinch the others meals??
  9. for starters stop picking him up or doing things that will cause him pain.If your dog has a back/neck injury he needs quite/recovery time & the vets advice on confinement means exactly that,no unnecessary activities to aggravate the area. Pain can cause vomiting even the tablets can cause vomiting but its essential you allow the dog to recover & that mens no play, picking up,jumping.Any activity that will re aggravate. If your not fully happy go back to your vet. Your little one may have pinched a nerve, pulled a muscle all sorts of things
  10. You have to realize that free for all playing isnt educating.Dogs learn form what is considered normal behaviour by there owners(just like kids) Whilst its socializing your youngster needs to learn the on/off button "Lolly is the main perpetrator in the whole thing though and if Suede stops and lays down for a rest then Lolly will jump on her and get it started again." This is where you need to do something. This is not teaching her manners & allowing her to annoy the other dog just encourages her "behaviour" as such. This is when you need to place her onleash & allow her to learn where the line is drawn As i say i have a 7 month old here who would dearly luv to play with my other to boys BUT he is growing & i dont want any damage but he also needs to learn that dog doesnt equate to play.Dog equates to civilized behaviour unless told otherwise. He is around my other boys, sleeps with my other boys & interacts in the house with our littlies(onleash) as hes learning who to behave .Its important that he socializes correctly. He is a gem at the shows & just loves life but he respects me & whislt being a doofas is his thing when excited around dogs he will listen to me when asked ,my word means way more Maybe its from the show point of view that i dont want my dogs to automatically presume that if it has 4 legs its play time.I want mine to listen to me & they can play on my terms & finish on my terms. He will be a powerful boy so i dont want my arms ripped out do to his presumptions just as theres nothng worse than another dog owner whos dog is going retarded because its doesnt understand lead etiquette or time out behaviour. When he first arrived my oldie was his teacher but now hes growing up he gets supervised plays with my oldie/My other setter & him would play till the end . I think what you need to understand its a bit like going to kindy where you have the children who have manners & do things nicely & you enjoy being around & then there is the feral child with no boundries or manners that after awhile drives you insane. Dogs can be the same & what they learn as puppies often moulds them for life. It sounds like they get on well which is super but i personally think you need to read the older dogs body langauage & when its had enough that means its enough for both
  11. I never use them on the showdogs. We certainly use them in the salon as they are a god sent for the unruly coats that come in. I prefer to use a good old fashioned undercoat rake though that doesnt cut coats & works a treat.Had ours for nearly 20 now. With aborder a good comb through will work wonders
  12. My young boy doesnt get unsupervised play.He is a very social boy who will happily play rough without thinking. It is still very important they have intereaction BUT you must learn when it right for the play to end. Your girl also needs to learn her boundries & when the line is crossed. I have a very beautiful older setter here who just dots on our small breed BUt our littles are taught the rules as are my big kids & you must always play it safe . As miranda said growing joints also are a big factor
  13. cuts can also be caused by using the wrong blade. But having said that if the area becomes so overgrown there is a bigger risk of clipper rash. Use your #10.Hold head up & clip away, even with folds there shouldnt be any dramas.I clip daily & many breeds that are throaty .We do plenty of ladradoodles etc etc with no issues at all.
  14. You can use an anti pull harness or head halti to start the educating process but training is obviously needed asap
  15. Its very readily available in australia what state are you in?
  16. yep harness, haltis whilst needed are the matts best friend. Also washing a dog with matts just makes it worse. For clipping the face just use the normal clipper there is no need to use different & it wont get through the coat. Simply use a 8 blade or 7 if you want fuzz but not long. Looking at him i would be doing the head ,neck shorter & more shaped.
  17. Nope she will not eat satin balls, she did for the first day but after that wouldnt touch them. As long as you keep offering alternatives the dog will play the game. Fussy eaters are usually very smart BUT always consider some fussy eaters can be a result of dogs having bad tonsils
  18. Diet is very individual & what may be "labelled" great doesnt mean it will suit each dog. For example my boy doesnt do well on eagle pack hollistic, when i swapped all was perfect. Finding the right diet can be challenging for some dogs, others have a cast iron stomach. With my 2 slightly sensitive tummy boys both get different diets & i dont change it.It agrees & i stick too. You could give.gut lining flora tablets
  19. Maybe your partner can help in watching the way you approach things in relation to what he does. Whilst leadership is important the way one approaches a dog or there simple body language can create all sorts of mixed messages to a dog that certainly feels it holds more power than you. I say go back to basics & rebuild you order in the household. The thing is 2 days a week doesnt make any difference ,a dog that respects that human will do so if its only seen once a month. For example i handle dogs in the ring, some i may see once in a blue moon but communication & handling & treating the dog with total respect gains so much reward. Dont think you need to compensate for the lack of time it wont make the dog love you more, infact you simply confuse them with whats expected
  20. Where is she sleeping currently?? If your using a crate personnally i would bring her to your bedroom, When she starts sleeping through the nights & cans more confidience of the house & humans start to wean her to the desired area. Whilst im a believer in not running to every howl a pup howling due to being overwhelmed & afraid isnt for me either. For years with our pups new & old we have done it this way & they have settled easily within a few weeks & moved to there area. We also advise our pup owners to use this method until pup is confidient & content with being alone
  21. Going up & down stairs is very different to going to ground. There is w whole different type of pressure on the body Active lifestyle yes BUT one also has to appreciate the breeds unique structure & no matter what there are activities that will place them at higher risk & thats where precautions are taken. Stairs can affect manys breeds ,Giant breed in early development can havea an increase in joint issues from stairs.
  22. someone may have tried to break in?/ Personally i would go ask my neighbors if they recall any odd noises or happenings, they may be able to pin point an odd occurrence that could coincide with this odd behavior. We have never owned a mini that has gone through a fear stage, infact never owned a dog that has done it. I agree like others at present dont fuss,i would even go as far as not to make a big deal if pup is around you because over rewarding can sometimes be just as harmful.
  23. I have been associated through daccies in the ring for nearly 20 years. With my boy i put it down to being around entire girls . Whilst my boy took a long time to recover if he wasnt so fit the chances of him getting to where he did would have been zilch. Sadly in our case the unauthorized surgery was also stuffed up The problem isnt major as in breeding BUT the main problem is daccies who are overweight, not fit, jumping up & down things they shouldnt. You will find very few showies with daccies that go down but lots of pets do. The same applies to corgis aswell. To many overweight, not fit & things crash quickly. As there long in back they need to be fit so there back muscles are strong to carry them
  24. Have to agree, never meet a long chi that needed clipping off. They have very little coat as it is. Should also add panting is normal for a dog. That is how they cool them selfs & there is a big difference between sitting in the sun & getting warm & simply being to hot when it shouldnt be.
