  1. I would suggest it has been turned into a partial game for her & a habit & your most likely more off it than required & i mean this by it ending up with peanut butter. It sounds like what should take 5 sec ends up being a great reward off you for her. I suggest before even putting her harness on you attach her to a lead .Take her to an area that is non slip & give the command "stand" with no fuss or pandering put it on & then reward.
  2. I think nearly everyone is in the same boat the extreme heat has playde havoc. Us perth people have just coped 5 days of 34/35 & my boys are blowing there top coats agian & today is humid so its a caes of  They have been living with the aircon on to keep there coats sane. As miranda said good diet & maintenance & removing the dead coat as quick as possible even if it looks worse ,the quicker the crappy coat is fully out the better the regrowth will be .
  3. Yep to much to soon. Our current litter do they lounge chair performance,We have 10 sitting on the lounge & 6 8 week olds doing the it isnt fair. The key is to not allow bad habits by both parties. It will all fit in place sooner than you think but maybe longer than you hoped
  4. No you dont want rolling on the back all the time.If she is being extreme & he has had enough then occasionally is okay but this where you need to read the signs & give both there space. If you can see hes had enough & she is getting over the top then calmly pick up & place in the pen.It isnst about discipline but about re diverting that moment or distract which ever works for that time. Not sure what you mean about the barking but if Humphrey is barking stop that asap ,his barking will add to the excitement & that is a nono for him & a habit he may continue & trust me you dont want to vocal dogs
  5. The reality is when i comes to birds & cats its up to the effort you put in & not alot of guarantees. Your cat could be a monster towards the dog . Are there any breeds that have interested your family at all?? *Are you wanting smooth /long coat * are you happy to have a breed that requires grooming expense or prefer not. *iAre you wanting one that requires alot of exercise or one thats adaptable to that day *There are choices out there its just acase of narrowing your wants & then seeking what could match Personally i would go for a puppy if you are wanting a cat friendly/bird friendly & above all very young children friendly.Whilst older dogs can be suitable it doesnt mean any easier & sometimes a young dog that can be trained is easier than trying to train an older dog to some many things.
  6. I nuke it too & generally pre heat the oven just to dry it out a tad. When i do prepare liver i do a whole pile & cook/freeze. One smelly day is enough. Occasionally i do add garlic but i have some that dont like it so i would do a small test run at home before relying on it at a big event
  7. If she is rolling over then she is respecting his discipline. She will grow out of this faze quickly & its a case of being patient & just being consistent .If she is getting over the top then simply distract & remove in a calm no fuss manner but also dont fuss Humphrey either at this time. Both need to be treated equal & its both calm & quiet. She will learn of him in many ways & she will also learn his behaviour so he is the role model At present what is familiar to her is a "dog" & humphrey is it.
  8. You have to be aware .Yes they need to sort it out but both sides are now equal & if it isnt accepted for one then not for both. If she getting atad rough then just distract her to a toy or a command ,dont play to her game. She was most likely a very confident pup before you got her which is great when coming home to another mature dog. Scarlett at present see him as a playmate.Humphrey hasnt had to share for 5 yrs & nor have you so now both Humphrey & the humans need to also adjust to there new dog household. Scarlett & humphrey will spend more time together ideally & as long as Humphrey has a safe area then he will be fine,Its a case of not pandering to him but also not allowing her to be over the top . I should add our current batch of minis would sooner play with my setters than the minis. There very brave at this age & happy to take on the world
  9. Personally what people pick at that age often isnt the one they still like at 8 weeks. We had some pups go today & the first family had first pick. For the first time ever we allowed them to come lookat 5 weeks because they wanted too,They picked the pup they wanted & we said yep thats fine, Today they are nearly 9 weeks & we allowed them to again pick which pup ,they chose a completely different pup. We explained at length that what they see at 5 weeks wont be interesting & that picking a pup at that age based on who does what doesnt always reflect that dogs nature.they learnt quickly but we had also had set aside a pup that we felt was better suited & we where right 5/6 weeks they are just starting to get a grasp on the world, some are slightly more advanced than others but yes you can get idea of which pup is heading down which path buit when they reach 7/8weeks you often get a giant turn around in the pups temps as the slower ones shine through & start to be more on par with the advanced ones & all start playing in a level manner.
  10. What clippers do you have?? We use anything from an #8.5.#7.#10.#15.depends on what look people are after & how much coat the dog actually has. Some done with a#15 would shave them bald for example
  11. Buy a new pair This time of year need to plain well ahead
  12. Simply because long nails do alter the way a dog walks & the way the foot sits. When this altered it affects muscles & other aspects of the dog . Also the longer the nails the longer the quik grows & the less you can trim off. We see dogs weekly with long nails & i can safely say most have flat feet or walk a tad odd to compensate due to the nails often curling under the foot. Commen sense would tell you its uncomfortable Just consider the way we walk if we get a blister on our foot You will also see dogs with longs nails especially on slippery surfaces slip & slide more or grasp the ground with grim death.
  13. I own 2 dogs who are highly allergic & i carry the injections here. We have other dogs who have been stung & no major issue at all.Licking the spot & minor amount of swelling but manageable. We still give a prednil . My 2 highly allergic are different breeds & no parentage that react but normally in there case when stung its always the face /flew area ,where the others is always foot. With my two allergic ones during business hours i will go to the vets even though i carry the injections. There faces swell to the point there eyes are shut ,glands come up for weeks etc etc,Generally with eye packs applied it take 4 hrs before there swelling starst to go down. The others swelling is gone in no time. Pot luck & careful monitoring. My 2 swell /react within seconds of being bitten
  14. Personally i would say no because many people under estimate what 3 can mean & what happens if it goes wrong.Yes minis are very social creatures BUT 3 can be a crowd. Also ensure your council regs allow 3 & then consider what having 3 will cost. Even though you groom yourself grooming the 3 dog can be a chore for some . So maybe consider when hubby & you sit at night do you have one dog each?? I sit night with 8 minis all craving for top spot, most go off & play in groups. Some arent as group orientated as others & prefer people time instead of play time. Also the ages we see who does what ,where & when. Only you will now if 2 is practical or enjoyable & whether you want the 3 for a good reason because as i say if it doesnt work out which one will you rehome??
  15. If the bowen person is good i swaer by them.My dogs see our bowen lady every 2 months
  16. The thing with bloat is symptons can show days before it happens . The one dog we had bloat actually showed no symptoms except being hard in the tummy. We went to the vet & he had already twisted & was beyond operating. He was PTS. He ran into the clinic with his teddy bear ,greeting & bouncing about. He was running on adrenalin . This dog had massive health issues & the only reason we noticed the oddness was due to him being anorexic ,massive thyroid issues. The key is the more paranoid you are the more the dog feels it .The reality is even with the best precautions it can still happen its just a case of if it aint right doing something. We always have gas aid on hand because often the signs of a bad gut can be the same or a lead up to bloat. If we have any dog we think looks gasy we will gently tap its tummy & rub & they will either burp or fart bigtime & thats what you want as that is removing the gas build up. The farts are often
  17. I agree with the others second opinion & seeking a good chiro/bowen person. Just because the pain reaction is at the front doesnt mean that is where the issue is.The resulting pain there could be due to an elbow/shoulder issue etc etc Flat feet as already mentioned is no big deal & as a groomer we see flat feet all the time. Some because there nails are so long there feet have splayed to accommodate this . I agree with other regarding "noticing it" flat fleet is normally no big deal & when selecting a show puppy you look at things like feet etc etc.If it had flat feet you would simply consider it a pet & no need to comment as it isnt a long term health issue. The only issue that goes with it is nail maintance, If it was a big issue the vet should have made comment at its 12 week vacc. Many pups can get flat feet & the likes whilst teething & even turning out during this time & thats where watching the diet can be important whether it be not adequate or to high in protein. During this same period some breeds also get droopy eyes that rectify around 8-9 months. Like others those feet dont look bad photo wise but we arent seeing the dog in real life. I would be contacting the breeder as they most likely could be of great assistance & may have been cheaper than the vet bill
  18. Did you ever contact the breeder about the issues?? If you wish to contact the breeder i suggest you get the vet to write a report .The report isnt about blame but a report that simply list the medical condition the dog has. I would then contact the breeder explaining what is going on & forward a copy of the vet report for there records. You may fine tjhe vet wont state there 100% sure if asked to put it in writing because often what they see & what the will write ends up being two different things.
  19. The theory is simple. If your dog does well on what its feed who cares. Many here will push BARF & tell people there doing ill by there dogs.Reality is there are millions of dogs around that are feed various diets that live very happy healthy lives. What works for one doesnt work for others. Diet is personal & individual.
  20. Some black shampoos can be very drying,The whitener work a treat on black dogs. Some will aslo do a quick rinse with white vinegar
  21. Just be careful soaking biscuits. When they over ferment that can be an issue. Moderately soaked biscuits will swell quicker in the stomach than left. As arule soak the biscuit you feed & leave for an hour & see how the swell & the texture they take on.Some are like rubber hockey puks But as erny said every study is different. All mine are feed on raised stands & always will be .Never had an issue in 25 years. The 2 dogs we have that blaoted but where suffering stressful medical issues. Thats why you also avoid prednil like the plague it makes them drinks gallons of water

    Growling

Yes its important but even in your own words of what you are watching Your dog is 9 weeks & big boistrous dogs are very overwhelming ,Labs can be big powerful dogs & alot of dog for someone still little. If your dog is reacting its had enough & needs time out other wise it will learn that this behaviour is acceptable & it will only get worse with age. Its not a case or ignore or correct but reading the body language & realizing that its becoming all to much & its time out either for the pup or the adults.
  23. I have breeds highly prone to bloat & i never remove there water. If you follow a commomsense approach there is no need too. I personally wouldnt have considered bloat with those signs.Throwing up doesnt equate to bloat & there are other more obvious signs then just your run of the mill throwing up
